Why does every person with a gun shoot on sight?
Ranadaine replied to joeymp's topic in General Discussion
I think that people KoS because they are afraid. They are afraid of losing. Losing their gear, their time they've put in this character, their self-esteem and power over you, or losing in this game (which makes no sense to me whatsoever). And this fear became the main feeling in the game for them. Not excitement, not engagement, not happiness and joy, but fear. Those who combat log after you retaliate are afraid more, those who just try kill anyone and fight to death are afraid less, but all of them are afraid. And, IMO, you can't get everything this game has to deliver if you are constantly afraid and worrying. -

Deer Stands - Been to 30 of them, never seen a weapon

I used to be afraid of the stairs and ladders after losing like 3 or 4 fully-geared characters, but for the last couple of days it seems that ladders and stairs are working pretty smooth for me. -
Hmmmm... Am I making things up, or the zombies started to have more respect to walls and fences since the last patch? On some occasion they even followed me upstairs using stairs (not ladders), actually.

Actually, I'm totally confused right now. Yesterday I ran all the way from Berezino to Elektro on a full server. Met a total of at least 8 players. 4 fresh spawns, 4 armed players. I ran right in the middle of the road, no cover or anything; I was fully equipped (clothing, tactical vest, mountain bp, mosin with pristine PU, fire axe, magnum). So yep, I was expecting to be killed or robbed around halfway there probably :D So. Let's go deeper into details. Logged in on a top floor of a berezino construction yard. First contact right away with the guy that was sitting on a crane nearby in a full military gear (absolutely having the upper hand on me). Short chat, and I went out of there, looted 2 pubs and ran to the coast. There I met consecutively 2 fresh spawns with the interval of like 5-10 minutes, gave them both a protector case with a full pack of rice, full canteen, can opener and compass (I got this cases for this particular reason). Then I met 2 more fresh spawns in the same time. One said he don't need anything, to the other I gave my fire axe and some food. Between Solnichniy and Kamyshovo I met a group of 2 armed guys in military gear, was greeted and after a short conversation I continued my adventure. And between Kamyshovo and Elektro I met the last military-equipped player, he asked for some water, got 2 can of beans instead from me and off we go. Elektro was quite empty and I got through it without any contacts. I am genuinely confused. And satisfied even more than that. If I can meet like 8 players in a row without even taking my gun into hands... Probably, I should remain friendly and never ever consider KoS over it. Just because there are players that are here to interact, not to point-and-shoot. It's all the fun you can get from the alpha anyway.

How about a bug when you try to get on a ladder with weapon in hands? You just start running until animation ends. Usually, by it's end you already ran off the roof you was at to embrace your death like a proper lemming.

Factory between Polana and Orlovets is crazy. Got 7 backpacks there yesterday (5-25,1-35,1-30), around 3-5 of 25's and a couple of 35's + a fireaxe today. Any residental area not scavenged dry also usually results in at least one 25.
-
And you can literally punch one to death without even a scratch just by circling it clockwise. Zed's aim for now is just laughable. offtop: Factories are pretty crazy, actually. Just got into one and found 5 25-packs, 1 hunting and 1 mountain backpack in a single building.

Hmmm... I don't want to make a separate topic about this, but it was pointed out multiple times here that mosin can spawn in cars. What kind of cars, actually?

I really can't understand all this "I used to be a good guy" posts. Not that I don't understand all frustration about "being nice" -> "being killed in the next 30 minutes at most", it's totally okay and such. But. No. But! What I don't understand is why you even try being a good guy if you prefer to KoS just because you got killed sometimes by people you help? First, if even 1 out of 10 (more like 1 out of 3-5 for me, actually, and more like 50% inland\north) is actually grateful for your actions, it already worth it. KoS mentality is not about a game, it's about a community, which was pointed multiple times on this forums. Second, any player interaction is so much better than just deathmatching all over. The main thing you can do now is interact for the hell of it. KoS is not interaction, anything else is. And this "else" requires balls. Those hairy things, you know. Not to shoot on sight, but to try to communicate and interact with someone in peaceful way, even though you will suffer no consequences after killing each other and have no reason to trust each other whatsoever. It's all about well-known prisoner's dilemma. It also matters on the receiving end. Being KoS sucks, especially if you both saw each other and you were unarmed/poorly geared and showed no hostility anyway. Being killed at least after a short talk just feels different. Hell, you can interact even without saying a word. Today stumbled upon a guy on a Rify, I was looking for ammo for my mosin and just exploring things (mosin,fireaxe,top-notch civilian gear were on me at that moment) and he was there with only a fireaxe. Waved at him and passed slowly nearby, awaiting to be hit with his axe (as it should probably be), but he just waved back and walked another direction. And after that waved me again from the rocks around ship while I was still looting. And I think that this is a win-win situation. He lost nothing, I lost nothing, we interacted and shared a couple pieces of gear while exploring this ship. Because why not. And it takes something to not kill everyone in sight just because you are afraid or "oh why then I need this weapon" or "I walked so long to get my current gear". And I don't want to hear the "what else to do" sh*t anymore. Explore and interact, hell, not deathmatch. I'm not against killing, I'm against dumb killing that happens only because someone has gun and itches to use it. Third. And the main, as for me. If you are making posts like this with a content of "I used to be a good guy but then I took an arrow to the knee", you really tried to be good just to brag about it, IMO. Being killed won't stop you from being good if you really meant to be good. It's another chance to learn and explore the map better while gearing up again and a lot more chances to see people inland that are not here to rub their ego about the amount of kills they have (mostly killing bambis anyway). I don't meant to be rude with this or to insult someone. If I did, I'm genuinely sorry for that; what I written is purely my vision of this game.

So in the very beginning of my current DayZ life I got wounded pretty hard, then bandaged myself, made it to NEAF and so on. What bothers me is that all this way I've done like in a old movie, black and white only. Now I'm completely equipped, constantly stuffed with food and water, used antibiotics once and cleaned my wounds with alcohol tincture multiple times (each time getting "my wounds are clean now" message, of course). And despite that I can't get the "healing" status. What else should I try?

Players who exploit the ability to server hop and players who don't.
Ranadaine replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in New Player Discussion
So much this. Lost gear this way a couple of times, but today the same way got away with mosin and meds of some poor soul. What else would you do if you have only axe and a person with mosin spawns 1m in front of you? I just shat my pants and hacked his head, actually. Ehhm. Where did I left? You got a great point there. Server hopping can get you behind defences or net you some loot fast. But if you're unlucky you lose it all without even a chance to retaliate. Didn't actually thought about that this way. P.S. Also saw a glorious sight today. Luckily, from a distance and through a scope. Server hopper spawns on the airfield, loots for a while and gets another one hopping right into his face. Of course, he kills him and starts to loot. But I'm just sitting here like w00t because third one hops in at the same place and manages to kill the first. Tried to shoot him afterwards but he logged. It would be a nice and juicy pile of loot, I suppose. -
Players who exploit the ability to server hop and players who don't.
Ranadaine replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in New Player Discussion
Am I the only one around here who thinks that currently server-hopping (not like all day, but 2-3 times) is like "meh", but still acceptable just because of loot respawning system is not in place yet and because not all loot locations are implemented (i.e. deer stands, log houses and a freaking lot of buildings, actually), so it comes down to NEAF,NWAF, Elektro, Cherno and Balota just to get a good backpack or a tactical vest, weapons aside. And 4 out of 5 are either camped or looted dry. If the actually useful loot wasn't grouped in 5 places on the map and only once after the server restarts, there would be no reason to hop at all (for me, of course; I can't say for everyone). TL;DR Combat logging is disgusting, server hopping is at most "meh" because of the current state of the loot system. P.S. Looking forward to be called "pussy". -
As of current state of game I can suggest that the most important building early in the game is the pub (?). Like the one on 121 90 on the map marked with red cross. It frequently spawns nearly everything useful for survival, except for weapons (if you don't count bat or smth as a weapon). Usually you can find there a 25-backpack, some food/clothes and occasionally some meds/medbag or a protective case. So if you find one that looks like it's not scavenged you should give it a shot, usually worth it.

i need some explanation about the re-spawn system
Ranadaine replied to anis_tar's topic in New Player Discussion
Just my 2 cents, but you can also spawn in Noviy Sobor, which happened to me twice at least. -
Actually, the problem resolved itself when I was sitting in a bush 200-300m from NEAF. Fresh spawn resolves any issues lol. And a video is extremely helpful.

Healthy is what you get when you are "healing" but there's nothing to heal actually. And as I said, I'm keeping myself constantly fed and hydrated, completely no illness, but regeneration just isn't there. EDIT Just cleaned wounds again. Waiting.

Does getting rubberbanded through wall on the second floor while geared with pimped out M4, complete militaty grade equipment and full backpack of food, ammo and meds still count? I'm not mad when I die from shot, starvation, zombies and so on, but this just drives me up the wall.
