What's going on with canteens on stable now?
Ranadaine replied to Ranadaine's topic in General Discussion
They are usually consumed by 20% So... I suppose I should do something about this... -
So, just took my time reporting some servers that are kicking at join. About 40% IP's resolved as clanservers-de. Does anyone know what GSP is this? And what their top level GSP, if possible.

Prison building also, mostly in the room on the second floor. Probably, these new police stations (but I'm not quite sure on that).

So... I'm kind of confused on how to start. There are a lot of threads on forums now regarding "implement X to reduce\get rid of KoS". "Get rid of KoS" is obviously ridiculous and I don't even want to get into discussing it. Reducing the KoS is another matter, though. Usually, some kind of penalty (i.e. ruining gear as it is now, all kinds of sanity suggestions, etc) or a system to distinguish the 'hero' from the 'bandit'. And I don't think it should be done. This way you can only get a bit of safety (pretty ephemeral though - any of this suggestions won't stop someone from shooting you if he\she genuinely wants to) at cost of discouraging a part of player base to play sandbox game the way they want. It's not the best idea if you want DayZ to be still called sandbox in the future. You don't want to discourage players doing anything in DayZ, actually. Rotten fruits, disinfectant, KoS - they are legit in current game mechanics and you can definitely counter (or avoid them) rather effortlessly. If you are a fresh spawn - you lose nothing if you die (so just provoke them to kill you if you don't like where situation is going), if you are geared - you should be more aware of your surroundings, I am yet to get fed something nasty after a 100 hours of gameplay (KoS happens, but it is a price of being friendly and more or less careless). And you are able to mute players for those who are concerned with all the kids shouting in direct. And what I think should be done (and I'm quite happy with current dev progress on that) is ENCOURAGING things. Devs don't discourage KoS, instead they encourage not to KoS, which is different and a pretty smart thing to do. Complicated medical systems, persistent storage aka tents, vehicles (and repairing\maintaining them) and fighting off zeds (and looting the area afterwards) that will definitely become much more numerous and dangerous - those are the things that encourage cooperation between either pre-formed groups or complete strangers, while not taking away from anyone's experience. And it should stay that way IMO. What do you think? Am I missing something? Would love to see opinions and different perspective.

Devs should be careful while taking steps in this direction. I, personally, don't want this game to become 'group-only'. Each and every game mechanic (except those that are IRL impossible for one person) should be perfectly available and doable solo. Game as a whole should still stay enjoyable (or at least bearable) for lone wolves. And, BTW, groups are far more visible, less mobile and require a whole lot more supplies than a single player. Not to mention coordination required to perform efficiently as a group (let's forget about a telepathic link given by a TeamSpeak for a moment; even with it the amount of friendly fire is quite hilarious). And it is great, because it is not like one way of playing the game is all-round better than the other. Variety is the key.

Terribly sorry for forgetting the IGN, so to all the TMW staff: tons of thanks for helping me out with a morphine today in Dubki. Owe you. -
Servers with connection issues to central hive
Ranadaine replied to rocket's topic in News & Announcements
Probably that's because they partially implement sks through multiple updates. Like geometry in one update, description in another, textures, mechanics and spawning are still on the way. EDIT. Yep, rocket, you are really quick. -

Ranadaine replied to rocket's topic in News & Announcements
Rocket, I hugely admire you and your patience. Really, if I were you, I wouldn't even bother to answer such posts; I can only imagine, how much it irritates you to explain every time that net code and all those client-server architecture issues are actually rocket science (and they are; I can't even understand, how to get something like RV work as client-server). As for me, you are doing a great job. Regardless of issues, you (or other devs) try to come out and tell us what is going on. This is great and, IMO, hugely important. Keep things going like this and I (and I suppose I'm not the only one) will stick with you and your product for a long time to come. -

look at log in the first post again, it got updated. love the defib change, BTW. -
It is like that sometimes. Or at least "friendly, but not pacifistic, so keep your distance and don't do anything stupid while I'm trying to help, or I'll get nervous and shoot you just for my safety". Really. Even if you are a hero trying to help a group of fresh spawns. If any of them tries something that makes your common sense tingle - shoot everyone who is not standing still with no weapon in hands. Just because they broke the rules, and you warned them before. Actually, I also had this moment that gave me chills yesterday. Guy murdered like 5 or 6 fresh spawns that were fighting off the zeds (though, some of them were killed by zombies, I got no solid info on that), just because (as he said) he wanted that axe and that backpack that 2 of them were wearing. And he told me that like nothing happened. I just couldn't resist the urge to put a 7.62 in his chest.

Oh, you're experienced with RV engine? That's really great! You should apply to dev team immediately and help them build this game (I suppose, that their offer is not that bad; I, personally, would be quite happy to move to Czech Republic to work in BI). -

I was not entirely wrong after all. And I won't be able to get into this update until like Thursday in the worst case scenario, with my 2-week vacation starting 2 days after that. So I'll probably come back to the next update without even trying this out properly. :D -

I assumed that there are a lot of people here who were waiting to get this patch in the evening in their timezone. Like in USA (?). That's an unfortunate delay, and it means that they won't really get to try this update for the next 24 hours or so (after getting back from work or whatever). This is not as bad as longer delay could be, but they still may feel a bit left out. I'm just trying to be polite anyway :) -

Suggestion - disable VOIP during gameplay
Ranadaine replied to conan the librarian's topic in Suggestions
I'm completely with OP. The telepathy link that is given by teamspeak is completely ruining immersion and I mostly think of it as an allowed cheat. Yes it is not good to do this through active system scans. But if it is the only way this could be done, I can allow this. And I can totally allow this if the method will be open-source. -
This game is about what you want it to be. Sandbox all the way. You should be careful, thoughtful and don't trust anyone who you can't bitch slap directly; bonus points for staying friendly while still sticking to the aforementioned rules. If you follow this simple rules you will get griefed a lot less; that way, you will still be able to meet a lot of great people and wiggle with them for the hell of it. If you prefer something calm and secure you should wait until hunting and other self-sustaining activities implemented, so you can minimize the possibility of meeting players that you don't want to meet. If you are run'n'gun kind - this game is probably not for you. If not - I think that this game is one of the best ways to spend 30 bucks on online entertainment right now. Adrenaline rushes are addictive, so take care with that.
-
Yep, sometimes you get yourself killed while helping. Actually, it usually means that you did not stated clear rules of your interaction (it's you with the gun here, so rules are yours), and that after any of them tries anything stupid you must shoot anyone who is not standing still with weapon sheathed. If you state that and keep your distance everything is okay in most cases. Also, I posted my experience, which, IMO, kind of proves that there are not a lot, but enough really friendly players. Like HERE or HERE and more encounters that I didn't mentioned on forums.

Merino's In-Depth Video Guides (Feb 11th: Updated to 0.34.115106 New Status Indicators, Rebalancing of Hunger, Thirst, Stomach, Blood and Health Reg)
Ranadaine replied to (TMW) Merino's topic in New Player Discussion
By combining this data and data from your hunger/thirst/stomach video we could more or less reliably convert food into the distance you can travel using it. This can be useful in situations when you are extremely limited in terms of resources and space (i.e. surviving without backpack, for instance, or carrying supplies for a newly spawned friend). So yay. -

I don't think you got my post right. I myself pointed people to this roadmap multiple times. But roadmap have little to nothing to deal with my issue. I.e. "early 2014" is not an ETA. And roadmap give us little to no info about the current progress. -

Oh, I see. BTW, ballistic helmet stops only one 5.56, ok. So, it is not enough to stop 7.62? Is there distance in this "equation"? Any info on vests? Yep, I read part about low priority, but still :) -

Rolling Update Rev. 0.30.114008
Ranadaine replied to Hicks_206 (DayZ)'s topic in News & Announcements
Really, it's not the time between updates that drives me up the wall, it's the lack of any information whatsoever. This topic would not be close to 500 posts if there was at least some info from the dev team. There are no posts/topics here, dev twitter is silent about development aspects since 8 or 9 January (even more, really), just some support answers tweeted today. It would be so much better to see something like "working on server stability / de-sync problems / whatever" or "going to implement this, this and this" with even loosely supposed ETA. Even if the ETA is not met it still would be better, because the last couple of weeks were, IMO, quite unsatisfying in terms of Dev -> Community interaction. There is a lot of feedback, suggestions, bug reports and other stuff, but we don't see any of the devs here and the last bugfix in the feedback section was at 9th of January. I'm not saying that devs are not doing their job well, or that they are working too slow, or that they need to increase the amount of people that are actually working on the game. None of these, they are a solid team IMO. They just need to communicate with us at least a little (not to sit on forums answering our questions on a daily basis, but just to keep us updated about what's going on), with people who are their player base (and their tester base since this is alpha). -
AFAIR, those are just objects from current .pbo's. There are no guarantees at all that devs are going to implement them in the next patch or even in the next couple of months.
