Awesome server, some of the best times I've had whilst playing have been here. Great teamspeak, great community. Highly recommended.

Post what sounds you feel need to be added to the game
Gundar replied to helcol's topic in General Discussion
Proper sounds for filling STANAG mags, like rounds being repetitively loaded, similar to loading a Mosin. Oh, and change it so splitting rounds sounds more like we're actually splitting bullets, and not emptying a toolbox onto the floor. -
Help with tactics, and avoiding miscommunication
Gundar replied to pskitz's topic in General Discussion
Even though this is a game, the concept of leadership is pretty much the same as in real life. Leaders just lead by nature, they don't need to make a conscious effort to do it. But with that said, you firstly need to know how to communicate with each person in terms of tone and language. The way you speak forms the basis of whether a person will trust and do what you say, whether they are a complete stranger or have been your friend for years. Speak clearly, calmly, confidently, and it can't hurt to have a sense of humour, since let's all remember one crucial detail; this is a video game, you and your team are here to have fun. Now imagine briefly that you are in the middle of an engagement, and you're playing with a great player who has saved your ass countless times and knows the game inside and out. Whilst someone new to the game might take indirect shots and immediately respond with 'OH GOD, I'M BEING SHOT' before sprinting in circles (we've all been there), this other player might instead react more calmly and calculatingly. He or she is the player keeping their head on a swivel, knows where you and each and every single member of his or her squad is in the world, whether they're all travelling as a group or whether some are stationed in far away places with scoped weapons. He or she is constantly anticipating, possibly without they themselves even knowing. It's usually players like this that enable your group to come out on top, or rather, why that group of players just totally outflanked and outplayed you as you run along the coast to gear up again. For actual solid tactics, like maneuvering, risk mitigation, flanking, etc, just watch youtube vids of squads who consistently know what they're doing and come out on top (I have examples if you want). Watch, pay close attention and try to learn that way. Beyond that, there's nothing better than good, solid experience to help you learn and develop into a better player. And whilst you may think that means always being successful, it doesn't. At all. You and your squad won't get it right every time, mistakes will always be made, and a lot of the time you will only learn what not to do when you take a risk, do it and it ends up getting you killed. I'm approaching 400 hours in this game, and I still learn something new each and every session I play. Clear, calm communication, knowledge of your team's positions (including their knowledge of yours) and effective ways of winning. Good luck, and have fun. -
I feel like adding detrimental effects to rain is excessive, unnecessary in a game and I for once don't want to be stuck indoors doing nothing whilst waiting for some damn rain to subside. It's my humble opinion that it is a feature that will get very old very quickly, even considering the likelihood that it will have something to do with body temperature at night or in cold weather.

The thread is about where to go if you want to find geared people to fight, which is real PVP and is a hell of a lot of fun. "No it isn't!" some of you might say, but unless you've been in a lengthy firefight between your group and another well armed big group of bandits at a military base and come out on top, then you're missing out on the most exciting and fun aspect of the game. What's your alternative take? Go find geared people to jog up to them, armed or not, wave and say 'friendly'? Yeah, because that has always had more than one outcome... not.

It's really hit and miss as to who you'll encounter, how many and where. For me though, if I'm looking to hunt people down with gear, I tend to sneak around elektro until I hear directional mosin or M4 fire (sometimes both). Smart players never fire from the same position twice, especially in populated areas, but sometimes you'll encounter someone camping in a really obvious spot ripe for ambush. Also the people who go to elektro with gear are usually looking for fights that are already stacked in their favour, what with it being on the coast and most of the people there not having much more than a taloon backpack with a couple cans of food and maybe a melee weapon.

You more than likely got shot in the arse.

Stupid justification. I've not encountered the 5 minute waiting period yet, but if the developers have actually made it so you have to wait 5 minutes before hopping servers to join friends or get back into the game after a disconnect/crash (in a frickin' alpha), then that sure as hell better be a short term fix, because that is preposterous. People hop online to game when they want and at their convenience, forcing people to wait 5 minutes for no justifiable reason is anti-productive and creates more frustration than server hopping ever did or would.

So in other words, another placeholder until you can find a firefighter axe.

I nabbed one off a guy who was sniping on the NWAF fire station when I logged in next to him. Thankfully, all his shots hit the floor in front of him, and the buckshot from my sawn off IZH did not  fully pristine with a PU scope and a good 30-40 rounds of ammo. It felt great to test fire, but alas, wrong place wrong time and as I ran past the jail/command centre 10 minutes later, a server logger ran out and put me down with his own SKS. No kills just yet. I have a stock Mosin and another SKS now on my second life, but no ammo for it. It seems that whenever I find the rifle, they're always on the bodies of people I manage to kill, and the ammo on people running around coastal towns. Gonna head to NWAF and look for a victim on the experimental servers. Will report back what happens.

Surely the phrase 'if and when' is contradictory.

Commencing Maintenance ; What do you think about the new update?
Gundar replied to TedZ's topic in General Discussion
I landed myself a sawn-off shotgun, was running round the Balota army/medical tents with a buddy when a dude comes in behind us in a tent and just stands there. I don't even aim, I just blast him at ~5m distance, see him get peppered with blood/hit markers, and the motherfucker just sprinted away, got chased for a minute before combat logging. I'm a veteran, and never complain if someone dodges any of my shots, but this should have been a definite kill. It's a god damn sawn off 12 gauge. I won't be cutting up my shotgun again any time soon it seems. But other than that, I'm enjoying the new bits of content. Absolutely adore my friend's fully upgraded, camo patterned mosin, the berets and new clothing, plus all the incremental fixes that will hopefully bring up closer to an optimized client. Keep at it Bohemia. -
I know, I'd much rather rock a camo bandana, or at least opt for coloured variants of the ballistics helmet (e.g. special forces black, camo patterned) later on. But since they make the difference between getting knocked out by one punch, and surviving a direct 7.62mm head shot, it's a trade off I'll have to live with.

Someone might, if they had the remotest idea of which server you were on.

This is a story about why you should get a ballistics helmet, or even a motorcycle helmet as soon as you can in this game. Getting shot in the head by a mosin nagant after killing someone on sniper hill (big hill/mountain north-east of elektro) is not something I would recommend. There's been some speculation as to whether helmets do offer any kind of protection, and my first hand account says they absolutely do, and you need it ASAP. My character is about 1 day old (in-game time), and I've been playing him for about 2 weeks now. This means he is beyond kitted out. The game, sadly, becomes a bit boring when you are healthy status, have a fully modded M4A1 (the rifle itself is either worn or pristine) with RIS handguard, ATLAS bipod, MP buttstock, ACOG scope or red dot sight, weapon flashlight, all pristine. Not to mention everything I have; full TTsKO, fire axe, hunting backpack, military clothing, can opener, compass, 400 rounds of 5.56 ammo, 10 cans of spare food, a full cantine, all pristine. Everything you find, or everyone you have to kill loses it's excitement when there's nothing else you need. My point isn't to show off, it's to set the tone for the next part. And while the direction or purpose of what I'm supposed to do in the game now seems a bit ambiguous (that's alpha for ya) other than for me to get into fights, you kind of still don't want to lose your stuff to a rookie mistake. To quell the boredom, I decided to head to elektro on a 40/40 server and keep a low profile on the northern outskirts, before I heard the very familiar sound of gunfire coming from sniper hill. Made my way over, flanked from the north, flanked down and along the western side, scouted the southern face, then heading back up to my northwesterly position; I couldn't find the shooter. I decided to make the (very) risky move of filling my canteen and filling up on water at the well, since despite my healthy status, I hadn't rehydrated for an hour or so. About halfway through, I hear loud mosin fire from inside elektro. Another tip for newbies; if you ever hear gunfire, always assume it is aimed at you. I heard three shots and decided to move, but it turns out they were aimed at me drinking from the well on the hill. Suddenly, the minute I turn the corner around the house next to the well, boom, the guy with his mosin and a magnum drawn. Sprayed him down (and I mean sprayed, haha) before taking cover behind the house from the sniper in elektro. Now, gunfire is loud, even with a suppressor on your rifle. I waited a good couple of minutes before crouching out a short distance so I could loot this corpse, but more importantly, hide it (sick of fighting bandit kiddies with mosins everywhere, sorry). Boom, heard another shot, but before I could move, I heard another, and then the screen went black. You are unconscious. Fuck. Well at this point, I know the guy's either on the northwestern hill by elektro, or more likely somewhere in elektro, meaning it's gonna take him a while to get to my body and the body of the guy I shot. I wait for approximately 1-2 minutes before my screen flashes back to life and my guy staggers up, blood pouring out of his head. I crouch back over to the house, hide in some bushes, and quickly bandage myself. I didn't hang around to see if he came to the body because gunfire is like light to the flies in this game. I took cover further up the hill and proceeded to munch away/drink to regenerate my blood. Nothing interesting happened for a while after that, except hearing the occasional potshots and pistol shots from inside elektro. The moral of the story is, always find a helmet, and regardless of whether they're the fashion statement of Chernarus or not, they will save your life from getting shot in the head by the most powerful weapon in the game currently. Something I will have to do now that my once pristine ballistics helmet is now ruined, presumably with a 7.62 round lodged in the front of it. Have fun everyone, hope it wasn't tldr.
