Hi all. Almost a year ago, I made this post on reddit and a sister post here. At the time, I was learning web development - needless to say I bit off a lot to chew. TradeZ ran without issue, or updates, for ~5 months. I was happy with it, but there was always that nagging little voice in the back of my head "update me..." Now, I'll admit... I haven't been playing DayZ all that much. Other, newer games have come onto my radar - Elite, Cities, etc. But I still feel like I got a lot from the community back in the ARMA II DayZ days that I haven't quite reciprocated yet. DayZ still has a special place in my heart. Over the last couple months, I've put countless hours back into the project. Basically, I re-wrote it from the ground up using concepts I had learned in the interim. With that, I'd like to share my progress, my (newer) baby, with the community. To reiterate, if you weren't bothered to open the post I linked above, TradeZ is a loot trading platform for DayZ. Think of it as a virtual corkboard located somewhere in Chernarus where people post what they have to trade. Other people will come along and post what they have to offer on those trades. Or something like that... I feel like the time is right (or right...er) to put this out to the world and start semi-pushing it. DayZ seems to have reached a point where things are getting finalized, features are being completed, etc. One of the primary concerns, character wipes, no longer are a concern. Glitches, while still there, are in shorter supply... Yes, you do have to trust the person. Yes, people are shitty. But hey, I feel like it adds to the experience. Other than that, I've addressed many of the small issues that people had with the previous version. You can now specify the type of server (1st vs 3rd), and your location, so you're not trying to coordinate a trade with someone 12 timezones away (weekend 3am trades are spooky, I get it). Hell, there's even a mobile layout. That said, I'm still a shitty software dev. trying to make his way in this world, so things break. I've tested it thoroughly for the last couple months, but I don't think I caught everything... There's a bug tracker link in the footer. Please, let me know what you think. Let me know what you would like to see (I'm open for new ideas)! I started a full time job, recently, so I've got all the time in the world outside of 9-5 (although my gf disagrees :D). Thanks and happy trading.

Hey guys. Some of you might remember me from this old thread. I've taken what people have told me, and tried to make it easy to use and more robust. New features: 1. new UI based on user feedback, should be easier to understand what you're looking at. 2. new "top traders" - very simple, shows the people with the top ten user rep (if it's above 0) 3. you can now see people's profiles - for example, my profile is here. 4. you can now pick items from another person's trade and make offers based on those items For example, if someone offers a pristine AKM and a tent for a pristine Mosin, but I don't want the AKM, I can deselect AKM, and offer my Mosin for just the tent. Typically, you'd use this function to try to make a trade when you don't have 100% of the items the trader is asking for, but still want to see if s/he'll go for it. As before, it's not 100%. I'm just one guy with a computer. Think of it like a pre-release beta: it's incomplete in some areas and it's not 100% bug-free (it's hard to write bug-free code), but it's functional enough to use. I hope you guys like what I've done in the last couple days. Keep the feedback coming. Thanks! As before, you can find the webapp here.

I Rewrote my DayZ Trading Platform Based on Feedback
tills13 replied to tills13's topic in General Discussion
I apologize for falling off the map, lately. Please be assured, I haven't forgot TradeZ. A few things came up, so I have not been able to dedicate as much time towards the project as I'd like. Just a quick status update: I've been working on TradeZ for a the last couple hours- fixing various things, iteration, etc. Small, critical, bugfixes aside, the next update is going to coincide with the release of vehicle features in DayZ - I feel that would be best for the platform. Thank you to those who have stuck with it through this quiet period. Thanks, as always. ------ Schweinsteiger, it looks like lock picks aren't in my database, yet. I'll add them - they should be able to be traded, and searched for more easily, then. -
Hey guys, it became apparent to me a while back that an item exchange system would be perfect for the DayZ community. It's always the case that, when you're looking for something the hard, manual way, you never find it. And it's always the case that you find yourself with endless junk in your inventory that you really, really don't need. That's where something like what I've created comes in. It allows players to connect and exchange items. You might be looking for something in particular or you might just be wanting to get rid of something you have in your inventory in exchange for the most interesting offer. It's called TradeZ. It's very simple - just a list of available trades. Trades are read as "I have [left item], I'm looking for [right item]." Hovering over the [+n items] will show you what those items are. You can also search for items and people, if you're looking for something specific. When making a trade, it's important to consider the person you're trading with. If they are untrusted, then you should probably avoid them. TradeZ utilizes "reputation" so you know who has consistently gone through with trades in the past. Typical use-case: initiate a trade seeking a set of itemsanother user makes an offeraccept or decline the offermeet and exchange itemsrate the experience - you can leave a message and rate out of ten. Messages currently don't do anything, but they will eventually be available for reading on profiles (so you can carefully select who you're trading with).that's it!I really tried to focus on making the experience enjoyable. Little things like animations, I think, make it seem polished - I've seen too many DayZ sites (and gaming sites in general) fall victim to the ugly stick. I'm looking for feedback, as well. If you run into any bugs, you can reply here or you can use the little i icon in the bottom right. Thanks for reading! edit i reset the database when moving the login system over to Steam OpenID. I REALLY appreciate your guys feedback and everything and I'm truly sorry for the inconvenience... there were quite a few trades lost.

I'm trying to make it good for the community - I take all suggestions into consideration. I don't really like that idea, but I'll think about it, maybe I can find a mid-point. Thanks!

Nice, thanks. I'll reply to the rest of your comment tomorrow (thanks for the mockup, btw), when I have more time, but I will say that I can't see myself lifting the item limit yet. I have to be space conscious given the EC2 instance I'm using to host this and I can't afford to upgrade it. People dumping huge lists of items into my database would fill what space I do have up quickly. I'll think about where I want to be going forward, maybe I'll find a happy medium.

I don't really like that way. Just a long list of what you have doesn't really make for a good user experience, in my opinion. too much clutter. location/region/1pp/3pp: that's on my TODO"better than" - that's how it is currently. If you select "Damaged" in the "want" column, it's to be read as "Damaged or better"There's already an "any" condition - for when you don't care about the conditionI'm not sure what you mean by mixed? You list each attachment on an item as a separate item in the tradeI don't really want to lift the 5 item limit because then people will use it as a "here are all my items" vs "here's all the items I want" - which I don't really want to get into
-
I didn't know that, thanks. I'll keep that in mind and implement it in a future version.
-
Unless I'm mistaken, you can bring items between servers so this shouldn't matter too much... should it?
-
The t2.micro virtual server I'm using on Amazon Web Services has limited storage space... it's all I can afford. It's just an artificial limit I placed on how many items you could trade - I assumed that would be enough to cover most cases.
-
TF2 trading site are able to do that because items are tied to your Steam account. Unfortunately, DayZ does not operate that way, items are tied to your character on hive servers - which there's no data API for (and likely will never be). So yes, to answer your question, you're supposed to meet up and exchange items.

Which is telling you that? My site or Steam? If you make it through the authentication process on Steam, you should be good to go. -

I've spent the last two night working on the site. I've added some colors (indicating status) and some delicious (and helpful) animations. Let me know what you think, and if you have any ideas regarding this project, include those as well. I'm always looking for feedback. -
haha well thank God videogames aren't real so things like this can exist. ZedEx, good idea

I found some time today to work on the UI. I'm implementing a bunch of requested features. I've looked to tf2outpost for inspiration - i guess people find that layout more intuitive than my original, so why not, right? It's definitely not 100% right now, but it's getting to a point where I can push out a new version. Don't worry, no more profile clears - I promise (even if it would be an "authentic" DayZ experience). Thoughts? Comments?

If you've got items x,y,z and are looking for items a and b, you'd post x,y,z > a,b with the expectation that someone would come along with a and b and you'd give them all three items. I realize that's not the best method. I'll probably end up changing offers slightly in the future - make it so you can offer item a and get only x, or something of that nature. Currently, though, I'm working on making it more intuitive. A lot of comments have been saying "I don't really understand what it's saying..." and I hope to change that. If anyone has any design suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the input.

If you're signed in, you'll see your username at the top right instead of the "Sign in Through Steam" button. I've been having some issues with sign in, though, depending on if you've claimed a vanityURL with Steam or not. Should be good to go, now, though. As for the ACoG, it was a case of, well, cases. If you typed it like ACoG, it wouldn't have shown up because I was checking for an exact match to "ACOG" - that should be fixed, now.
-
hmmm, ok. Yeah a lot of people are saying the UI needs a little work. I'll think about it and update it later. Yeah I have item categories implemented, I just forgot to scrape the item category from DayZDB when I populated the list I have. I'm going to try to make it a little easier to understand without making it more cluttered. Thanks for the input.
-
Hey peeps. You might have noticed your trade disappeared. I had to reset everything because I've implemented "Sign in Through Steam" so now your account is linked to your steam account. Hopefully this will stop people from exploiting the service... Sorry for the troubles. edit: some people were having issues logging in after the SteamID update. I think I've fixed this issue.

If you mouse over the [+n items] chip it'll load the items for that trade. Unfortunately, if you "mouse in" and "mouse out" too fast, it won't unload that little tooltip. On the roadmap. edit: preliminary implementation done. good idea. unfortunately, I'm a starving student. I can afford to host my own domain (sbstn.ca) - and Amazon has a "free" tier for a year on their web services, but I can't afford two domains plus hosting for them both. DayZIntel has been kind enough to offer forwarding tradez.dayzintel.com to my site, which might be easier to remember than tradez.sbstn.ca, but other than that, that's not something that I can do currently. thanks for the input!

Good point. Right now, I'm logging all "ratings," so I can see when someone goes up to 50, and then down to 30, but I'm not showing it. That's going to be something that shows up on profiles when I get time to implement it.

There IS a rep. system, that's what the number beside the names are. And yeah, I think, eventually, I'm going to link to Steam accounts. I am a student, and I'm pretty busy, so it might not be until next week.
