  1. in the experimental it seems like the AKM was really going to be the contender with the m4, I have a pristine everything AKM: railed fore-end wooden stock(black) drum mag PSO-1 scope light n' bipod me and the gf usually hold down a town after gearing up full, but in almost every interaction I missed my shot: shot at a runner ~50m away scoped in w/ breath held, missed 2 feet in front and behind shot fully auto inside police station ~2m away, 14 shots in iron sight, all missed shot at a target almost standing still ~75m, scoped in,single shots, missed 4 of the 6 shots I don't know if this particular setup is glitched some how (painted stock?), I can get standing zombies at 200+m, but moving targets have been surprisingly evasive. after an hour with the gun I called it quits for the night, I was curious if anyone else was having similar problems. I have a feeling it might have something to do with the combination of exceptionally slow turning acceleration and high recoil.
  2. the sound of reloading, zombies attacking, ammo being emptied, single foot steps. I know its a glitch, but does it indicate anything? are these sounds that are happening some where in the server or just randomly generated? if they are happening, are they within my network bubble (~2.5km)? is there a way to stop it? (i think someone said something about a flush command?) thanks in advance for the info

    Cannibalism

I don't understand how or why threads on cannibalism keep making it to the first couple pages of the suggestion thread, they all have the same bs in them why would you? eating genetically similar meat is really hard on your system, anything I've read stated that eating human meat may send your system into a form of shock from it believing its eating itself, which I'm sure affects the nutritional intake you'd receive, there's some articles I've read stating some of the health issues with eating pigs may be due to its genetic similarity. STOP, just STOP, I don't know what happened to these people to make them walking corpses, but if eating human meat wasn't bad enough for you, I'm sure eating human meat that has been rotting for what? months? years? anyways, if you think that's a great idea then leave a raw ham out for a couple weeks then eat it,,(pour some salt on it I'm sure you'll be fine) BTW look up prion disease its mad cow for humans YOU DON'T, not only is food abundant in the game, they've added significantly more with the addition of animals and apple trees. there's many more likely situations that could have solutions added into the game then facing cannibalism or death from starvation; like being able to hop through the door of the hospital to find morphine for your broken leg, which in addition usually has a half dozen food items in it. once you know where food is in the game, you almost have to purposely avoid all food sources to die of starvation. great news! it's already in the game, its called eating, if cannibalism was added into the game it'd be no different then animals now, you'd bend over a body, click skin and quarter, a generic knife moving animation would happen, then the body would disappear and you'd have steaks in your inventory that would then need to be cooked, at the end of the day nothing would be seen that would be different or ritualistic in any manner, the only thing that I could see someone do that would stir an emotion is try to offer/force-feed it to other players, other then that there'd be literally no visual difference then any other food source. you wouldn't know by seeing it that someone was eating a steak of human or cow. there's already a visual for trying to be a freak. the payday masks, visually they show that you aren't friendly and would rather shoot and terrorize then offer assistance to random strangers. and that's why nobody wears them, at least not outside of a group. competent or cowardly, players rather be a wolf in sheep's clothing, because looking like trouble will get you shot a lot faster then not. the ONLY time I've ever seen a food shortage is when something neat is added into experimental and 80 player servers are filled and looted bone dry within the first hour of their launch the ONLY thing that cannibalism would add is another level above tea bagging(corpse desecration) the ONLY real use for cannibalism in the game would be trolling. AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DON'T FEED THE TROLLS! please don't put such a stupid thing in this game, it's voyeurism, and it's retarded
  4. no, you don't get it, wortzilla does though, and I don't mind reloading magazines, in fact I made a post here about making it much more realistic, with speed loader working like speed loaders, and loose rounds being loaded one at a time (vote and support if you would like it more realistic too) as it stands right now, pressing reload reloads your gun with the same magazine type if you have another, but if you have even two different colors of magazine and move your scroll wheel, every variant of magazine you have for that gun will come up, this is what I want gone, personally I feel if I had two magazines of different capacity and I used one, logically id want to reload with the other, and if I had three mags, then the next biggest one. anyways, that's my opinion on smart reloading and its covered in the other thread I linked. but what I don't need (and the topic of this thread) is the list of magazines to reload my weapon clogging up the action menu, because the only time I've ever used this is when I was trying to do something else, open a door. doors can be finicky when your trying to use them quickly, and gates need you to find their sweet spot to open them, if the game doesn't think you're trying to open a door(or climb a ladder, or drink from a well) when you have more then one magazine on you, you'll instead reload with a different magazine/ trying to stealth through a city and open a gate? then instead change your magazine ?( which you then probably need to change back) and hope no one was near enough to hear it. trying to run to/from a player in a firefight and need to get through a door? but instead change your magazine? now you're a) running in place into a door and B] unable to retaliate (while changing the magazine) C) now might have a tiny magazine in your gun these are the situations I run into, the reason most, if not all people, carry just one kind of magazine per gun so we don't have to deal with this bs, so in summary, if I need to reload with a different kind of magazine I'd like to either have the game realize I want the one with the most bullets in it, or do it myself in the inventory UI, but I don't want it on the action menu, especially when the magazine in my gun isn't empty.

anyone having problems with the AKM?(accuracy)

well everyone looked to be under 100ms,, though the time I shot inside the police station, the bullets seemed to be hitting where the door would be if it was closed (it was open)

    Too difficult/frustrating in the beginning?

I agree that there isn't good difficultly ramp up in DayZ, its static, all the difficulty you have in the first hour is the same difficulty you have after your hundredth, the only difference is your knowledge of the areas and where you can find what you're looking for, once you have buildings/locations mentally marked as weapons, food, meds, etc. then all that's left mentally marking out a path from what you have to what you want. back around its December release is when I picked up the game, I died non-stop for about the first 3 hours, from the videos I've watched and wiki pages I understood how to bandage, high loot was at the airports, and generally how to play the game, but I didn't know the map, what buildings were important, or how to get blood back, it took a lot of scrounging back then to figure out how blood worked, and a lot of searching to know which buildings were worth while, and although a lot of this information is more readily available, but its not given to you, and very little is even "hinted" through the GUI, mostly its all learned from trial and error, or reading published information. and easier starting area would be nice for new players, maybe a pre-map tutorial level for new players to give them a heads up one the health/blood/food/item condition systems and a quick item location and zombie tutorial, fallout did this fine in 2 and 3. plus these kinds of things can add a lot lore to the game as well.

    Any way to predownload DayZ

I'm assuming he has one of those internet connections that take 10 hours to download anything
  9. commanderbash

    Any way to predownload DayZ

If you have a friend that already owns the game, and they log onto your computer, they can download the game which will remain on your computer when they log off, once you have it added to your library, you can then access the game that was already loaded
  10. private/public and hardcore/regular, I know of these splits, and I know of the character wipe issue the problem I'm having is I still have my original character, but only on a select few servers, on other servers I have another character I put a few hours into, I have two characters on the public regular hive, anyone else notice this happen to them?

    are suggestions utilized?

I've seen a lot of good suggestions in these forums, but very few that I could say were used, as the development team may have had a similar idea, I'm not sure if I've ever seen someone comment on the suggestion forums who's title suggested they have any connection with the development team. is the suggestion forum used at all to guide development, or is it just for the community to banter on their different visions of the game? is their some way that a good idea could be shown as noted to/by the development team as something they'll try to include, consider, or already considered and declined for what ever reason. it'd be nice to get some feedback of the game we support and strive to make better.

    are suggestions utilized?

overall your correct, only somewhere around 1/3 of suggestions are intriguing, and a fraction of those feasible. but that still leaves dozens of suggestions that are doable and would increase the depth and enjoyment of the game, but we never hear if these gain any traction with the development team, I'm glad to hear that someone is responsible for at least skimming over posted ideas. it would be helpful if we could more effectively co-ordinate our suggestions with what's next on the programming plate, offer our input on the following design phase instead of shot gunning suggestions about things that were either already covered and won't be revisiting for a while or things too far down the road to consider/remember. I know there's small updates like new hats that can be done in any phase without disrupting workflow, but larger suggestions like lighting up cities, creating modular molly packs/vest, or fixing suppressors for pc/npc alike; I'm sure would require the dedication of large portions of the team, which will likely only happen if their in that phase of the design. I've seen many great ideas sink to the bottom of the forums to be forgotten, not because they were bad, but because they were vast. so in summery, can we get some form of 2 way communication with the dev team, like guidelines to what suggestions would be considered, or what is currently in development that they'd like community input on?

    where are the Amphibia mags?

not a new player, but this is the only question thread. I've been through NWAP from bunker complex to hangers to camps and back at least eight times now, I've found every other thing imaginable thus far except .22 Amphibia mags and I must've went through around a thousand loot nodes by now. I've spent hours searching, they just aren't there. have they been reclassified can civ loot or are they just not spawning in since latest patch? thanks
  15. commanderbash

    where are the Amphibia mags?

hmph, must just have had a really bad string of odds then, i'll keep looking
  16. commanderbash

    where are the Amphibia mags?

have you found them there since latest patch?

    bandanas should have multiple uses

there should be a multitude of uses for bandanas: one I'd really like to see is their use as face mask it'd really compliment the color scheme a lot of people go for, and cover the last bit of exposed skin in the neck area , other uses are markers that could be put on the arm/leg/backpack to show who you are amongst a group finally they'd make suitable rags for bandaging. show your support if you agree :)
  18. there's a few things about how ammunition is handled in the game that I wanted to address with possible fixes that would add to the realism, gameplay, and stop some nuisance oversights I've been thinking about this for awhile and it took a bit to flesh out, so please be construction with your criticism: 1. the partial reload one thing that bothers me about the game right now is that the only way to top off (partially reload) weapons without detachable magazines/cylinders is with a speed loader, otherwise you need to empty it first, and I don't follow that logic, especially in the case of internal magazine weapons like the sks and mosin, (I know there is a practice for break barrels and revolvers where you dump all shells/cartridges regardless of been fired, but that is a type of quick reload method) I suggest that they allow putting rounds directly into the firearm without needing to unload it first. 2. speed loaders also I wanted to talk about how reloading works with weapons using speed loaders/stripper clips . currently the only way to reload a gun GUI free is with a stripper clip or speed loader. I feel it would be a better system if pressing the reload key reloaded with your weapon with best available option, so if there were no stripper clips/speed loaders available, or your weapon was still over half full, your character should begin placing rounds directly in the magazine one by one until either full or you interrupt the action. and if a speed loader is used, it is placed empty back into your inventory and not into the gun. reloading an empty gun with a speed loader vs with loose ammunition, should be faster, nothing more. 3. instant unload/reload(dealing with loose rounds) emptying/filling magazines(for all applicable weapons and scenarios) should be done real time, the action should change its quantity one bullet at a time until completed(faster to unload, slower to reload),it should be an interruptible action (stopped at the last bullet fed in) in case more pressing matters were to occur, and the time should be impacted by movement (slower for walking, slowest for running) this would be more to the original vision rocket showed of actually putting the magazine in your hand and dragging an ammo pile over it. this would prevent the limitless magazine shoot out where someone has two spare magazines and quickly fills one during a reload. which would set a better precedence on how many magazines it would be prudent to have on your person. fully reloading a 30 round mag takes less then a minute in "ideal" conditions (about 30 seconds for those accustomed to it) 4. the coupled stanag mag. there's lots that could be done with this one way or the other: 1. if you aren't going to make the item function properly, please replace the model with a single 60 round magazine such as those offered by surefire, or some drum magazine, people will be happier 2. if you are keeping them, please create some fast reload animation/delay once the first magazine is emptied 3. if you're going to keep them, I'd like to be able to improvise a couple with some rope and duct tape on two stanag mags, which leads into #5 5. you should be able to couple two 30 round .22 magazines(with a 180° connection) or any other suitably sized external magazine, with duct tape I could only put 3 questions to the poll, but feel free to discuss and comment on any of these items. it took a few hours to get he ideas down straight and proof read, so please offer your support. volume builds change
  19. I was looking through electro for a jacket today, and although I didn't find a jacket I found that a lot of loot nodes that were either disabled extremely rare to spawn anything have been fully enabled, places like: back rooms of the red brick sports bar yellow house with storage shelf's green 2 story house in kitchen I even saw two sks's in the tv room of the two story red house I don't know if this is an Easter treat, but its nice to be able to loot these forgotten places again, even ifs its a little abundant, I prefer this to these places being forever vacant or useful items: someone might want to check tents in NWAF and post and update in case they've been reactivated too.

    improved end game,, suggestions?

i like loot, most similar games (like infestation) i gauge how well i did by the amount of stuff i was able to store away, in fallout (a single player comparison) i have more money and items then what could ever be used. yet i still take anything of value. i do the same in DAYZ, but without item storage, i usually have everything i want within a few hours, then the game devolves into PVP for me as there is nothing else to do. however once item storage is added if dayzmod is any indication, it will be on an individual live server which would limit the servers you have access to your stockpile, and mean its forever vulnerable. which (using my experience from rust) would limit how many items it would ever be worthwhile to store. although i like the idea of a universal storage system, i do not know how it could be effectively balanced. short of something opening up end game with some form of secure universal storage(like infestation). i really don't have any idea what can be done to delay endgame once you have everything of value that you want, there's just nothing to do other then kill or be killed once you're geared so, does anyone have an idea of what could be done next? something the game could implement.

    improved end game,, suggestions?

I think some of you are getting the wrong idea when I say getting off the island, I don't mean you actually go somewhere in any more then the fictional sense, in reality your character is reset and looses their gear. the game gives you a score based on life events like, length lived, and loot on your person/vehicle, maybe in game events you've survived as well, etc. there could be a reward system for getting a high score or accumulating enough points through multiple excursions. rewards could be things like a random food item, or a random mag. or other useful items. these random items could be given either every spawn, or to limit its use, you choose which spawns they are given with a limit of uses. this would work to remove high loot players, and major player caches from the game, and giving max geared players another option other than pvp (even a cyclical objective is an objective people will follow) there have been several games that use this system in some form: PAYDAY 2, MW3, State of Decay:Breakdown just to name a few I know. some of these systems provide nothing more then a title, others provide a reward for the players sacrifice that are useful, but not over powering. picture this, you've just completed your third excursion "event" you've racked up a lot of loot, full camo and a hunter pack, a decked out m4, 3 canteens, meds, a half dozens bags of rice, and enough ammo to supply an army, everything pristine, you've scored high enough to receive two random items on your following spawns. you reappear on the coast with the usual, except with time you also have a b95 speed loader(filled) and an orange. maybe next time it will be an sks clip and a can of sardines. this sort of system can be very flexible and rewarding without being overpowering or game breaking. it doesn't break the game realism in any form as I would imagine people would wash up on shore with more then their clothes at times. this is the system I'm talking about, this would add a depth and reason to the game not currently observed.

    open up optic platforms

optics do not increase accuracy, they can, however, increase how accurately the shot is taken. personally I don't see any real disadvantage of having almost every optic available for every firearm. For example Blacklight:Retribution allows any optic to be placed on any firearm, you can put a 10x scope on a shotgun if you want. although the idea is ridiculous, its allowed. Battlefield 4 also allows this but with some restrictions. weaver rails can be added as lootable item, and the drill and tap kits can either be included, or be a static/stationary device found at specific locations. almost every firearm can feasibly be mounted with a weaver rail allowing most every optic to be mounted support and discuss :)

    has anyone found raw meat?

it stated that several types of meat (like rabbit) were added in the latest patch, but I haven't found any, has anyone else?
  24. rocket has stated how their team utilizes great ideas from other games and this is one that they should utilize. they've packed a lot of functionality into these two keys between the two keys you can: switch between single fire and full auto scope and irons weapon melee under/overhand grenade toss not to mention the vehicle uses also, bipods (in RO2) are context sensitive(auto deploy). this would: streamline a LOT of weapon functionality create a system that could implement the BUIS layout a system that can implement weapon melee the whole system is context sensitive which is how they pack in so much into a couple keys a 2 key weapon function system could be implement in multiple ways, but in all ways it would streamline functionality to rely less on the GUI/backpack system please comment your approval and discuss! :)

    improved end game,, suggestions?

there may be no escape from the apocalypse, but there is escape from the coast, there's roads leading off the map (with coy distance markers) and a vast ocean that must lead to some other land mass, its Frankieonpc1080p that suggested it. but its the best idea I've seen thus far. its also has the mechanic of removing large loot stores from the map.
