    Please ignore/delete this topic

imagine a world in which KOS was 'fixed' and very few did it. There would be little incentive to play stealthy at all, or to scout out towns, or to watch your back, and there would be no fear when going to high pop areas of suddenly being shot at. Now imagine how boring a game that would be...

    I sugges four things

more pistols compared to rifles is a very good idea, anything that leads to more up close and personal confrontations can only be good. btw that resident evil gif brought back floods of memories, what a game that was...
  3. Hey found this on youtube, thought it was pretty cool, shows a new potential building model (3.20 to 6 mins), and gives a birds eye view of chernarus+ from a heli (12.30 to end), just something to watch while we wait for Friday. BTW seems strange how easily chernarus+ ports to arma 3... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cxA9ImH49TM
  4. I've clocked in over 100 hours and never seen one, looted fresh airfields, barracks, piano houses... WHERE ARE THEY??

    Lets Talk Camo

So being a survival game set in woodlands and all the devs should seriously take advantage of the beautiful graphics of the standalone to implement a proper camouflage system. ATM we only have one camo variant, the game should have MANY as there are so many awesome camouflages used by the Russian military: flecktarn, SURPAT, spectre etc. and so many used globally (CADPAT got to be the coolest). There should be face paint in military bases, we should be able to stuff leaves into our hats, craft leave nets and even basic gillie outfits (by no means easily). I'll make it clear I'm not calling for any of this now, now they need to fix loot, but an advanced camo system should really be implemented at some point if only to do justice to the amazing work the art team have done on the Chernarus+ Map. btw also check out Zjasuu's post: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/178064-flecktarn-camo/

Too Many Severs - Dynamic Server Allotment

completely agree, I posted something along these lines myself a while ago, I really think that people loot farming on lowpop servers, and THEN switching to highpop once fully geared is having a very serious effect on player interaction in this game, it means you get just two types of players in highpop, fully geared up to the teeth players who just want to hunt other players, and don't give a damn YOLO freshspawns, 90% of whom just run to electro to get themselves shot. There are no survivalist freshspawns in fullpop looking to gear their characters, cos they would just do that in lowpop, and these are the players who create many of the interesting player interactions, and that is the period in a characters timeline that is most engaging. Not to mention that it screws up the ratio of players to gear in the highpop servers, ahhhh I could go on and on about this issue, it is so underappreciated (this really could be the 'cause of KOS' that everyone's seeking) and I desperately hope something is done about it.

    Lets Talk Camo

sorry never even noticed the suggestion section! Any way I can move it?
  8. I don't think its the AI that's the problem, its the terrible server side performance issues this game is having in the stable branch, try out experimental, they have done some amazing work on these performance issues and I can report that I was actually killed by a gang of zombies who fractured my arm (they can do that now) and beat me to death. It was awesome
  9. yorkmorgan

    Has there been an update?

I think they are quietly rolling out changes to the experimental cos its got a lot of new content now: three new buildings, and an insane server performance increase. It still has the no loot spawning houses and quite a few bugs and I heard it won't be pushed to stable until those are fixed. I think this is going to be the new model for updates, they continually add to the experimental until a meaningful amount of new content is added and only then push it to stable, I only wish they communicated what they're doing on the forums more
  10. Im currently playing experimental and can report that the server performance increase is fantastic so I've not come here to moan, just to ask if anyone knows how much a priority non looting building's are and to say from many hours of experimental build play that i'm fairly sure that there is actually one MORE non loot spawning house in experimental than in stable...

What made you buy the Standalone?

I think I speak for a lot of people when I say I watched all of Frankie's videos of the mod, heard that a standalone was going to be released and decided to wait for that instead of dealing with having to download arma which I had no interest in, particularly as dodgy websites kept claiming that the standalone would be out within a month, for about 6 months. But seriously Frankie should be given a sack full of cash for the profile he's given this game, a full blown ad campaign would be less effective.

Rocket standing down from Dayz by end of year

100% agree, and reading the article shows that Dean recognises this about himself and actually agrees aswell, I think this is not a bad thing, Dean has a great ability to make others see the merit in risky ideas, but after a point this becomes a problem. There are other people working on this game who have more focused vision and also no intention too make the game casual. Essentially, don't panic!

    Random Leg Breaks?

I fixed my teammates leg, he got up, ran into me and my leg broke, go Alpha
  14. yorkmorgan

Things you want to see in SA updates first.

Replace 'sticking' rifle to your back with proper weapon slings and get rid of sticking melee weapon to your back altogether (I really, really cant stand this), implement rudimentary barricading, allow character locked servers.
  15. yorkmorgan

    Throwing weapons.

dean has made it clear that implementing a physics engine into the game that models throwing trajectories and body ragdoll is one of his priorities.
  16. I think its great they are working on the medical system, true it might seem overdeveloped now that everyman and his dog has a rifle, but it will really shine through once we're all hurling sticks and stones at each other when the gun spawns drop, personally I cant wait to be removing arrow shafts from my buttocks with tweezers.

    Magical Holster Shoulders

Just wondering if anyone knows whether being able to magically stick a rifle and an axe to the back of your tshirt is a permanent feature or just a placeholder mechanic for alpha... cos I really hate it. How cool would it be to have to find or craft weapon slings?
  18. yorkmorgan

    Magical Holster Shoulders

Agree, I also think not being able to store large melee weapons easily would help to balance them, atm there is no reason to carry anything other than a fireaxe, and seeing as they're so common, it makes all the other melee weapons redundant which is a shame. Yes a machete would be less deadly than a fireaxe, but it would be so much more practical to carry, and the game should reflect that.
  19. I feel your pain, 130 hours and have never found a single one, curse me and my non-exploiting disposition

    Magical Holster Shoulders

Dayz defines putting rope through a burlap sack as crafting so yer that's kinda exactly what I meant by crafting...

Thanks. maybe the dayz gods are just not in my favour...

    Simple Incentive to Live

So it is true at the moment that if a bandit takes all your gear you couldn't give a toss whether they shot you or not (unless your far into the north or grouped up with friends, but in those cases the chances of being held up are pretty small anyway). Is this a problem? I think the success of this game lies in the heightened emotional response it evokes compared to other games, it can be terrifying, hilarious, joyful and everything in between, and it achieves this by getting you attached to your character, so if you start to not care about your character, as happens after many hours of playing, then there really is a problem. Many veterans of the game talk about the nostalgia of feeling invested in their characters, it would be good if the game could sustain this investment. Now most people's 'solutions' involve skill trees, which could not be more inappropriate for this game, it works great in skyrim, but I don't want to be able to reach level 100 at opening canned beans with a screwdriver. The only way they could possibly work is if they were so subtle as to be practically undetectable. Beards are a fun idea but not really appropriate for the ladies, and how would you distinguish a 10 day beard from a 20 day, a 50 day from a 100 day etc. I believe that just displaying simple number, your average lifespan, next to your name, would both work at incentivising people and be fair, here's why: 1) In a survival game its the only number that should matter: The game doesn't care how you survive! You could kill every player you see, you could make friends and help your fellow man, you could sit in trees all day eating berries, you can do whatever you want too and as long as its a successful survival strategy, you should be rewarded. This is why lots of players hate KOS whining, it works as a survival strategy, so don't knock it! The game should reflect the fact that survival is the only goal by making average lifespan the only stat. 2) I think that most players would care about their stat: Us gamers tend to be competitive, and I would guess that the typical Dayz player is even more so than average. What I like about the game is that quick thinking, patience, knowledge and skill are much more useful than in your average online game and really do make a difference. I think that competitive players tend to appreciate this as well. Therefore I genuinely think that most players would try much harder to survive if they knew that others would be able to judge them by their average time survived, and if this was the only stat, as I think it should be, they would try even harder. What do you think?

    Too Many Servers

Hi, I know most peoples major complaints are with server hopping and combat logging but mine is with the huge number of servers with 1-10 players in. People just join a server where they can saunter about leisurely through any military area, whistling to themselves, flashlight on, getting the best gear with nothing to fear, because its just them and maybe 4 other guys across 225sq.km. That's 45sq.km each. Its obvious that people do this very deliberately by the long lists of underpopulated servers. In itself this is no problem, if people like playing in very sparsely populated servers that's fine, but I would guess that the vast majority, once they are geared like an SAS paratrooper, switch to full servers and light up the place like they're on a hunting ranch, with little fear of death as they can just join an empty server when they spawn and do it all again. Personally I think this is the worst gear exploit at the moment, its not exactly server hopping because you can get all your stuff in one server, but at least if people server hop though populated servers they still face an element of danger. The only solutions I can think of are: 1. Lock characters to low population servers if they join one. (So that people that legitimately like playing in low pop servers are not discriminated) 2. Cull back the number of servers so that the ratio of player numbers to servers is reasonable, say ~ 30. ( I don't know how this could be coded for so maybe just stick with the first suggestion) EDIT: I do not mean only have 30 servers, that would be insane, I mean that if there were, say 10000 players in a particular region then there would be (10000/30)=~330 servers, so that (players/servers)=~30, sorry if I didn't make that clear. I'm interested to hear what people think about this; is this even a problem for you? Is it a legitimate way to gear up? Do you have any suggestions for dealing with it? Cheers.
