When i stop caring about my characters i give the game a break. Its only fun when i'm constantly on edge. -

Help with keeping my cool when meeting players?
yorkmorgan replied to JJ_'s topic in General Discussion
Thats alright. I should point out that when the shit actually does hit the fan and bullets start flying at me i become a shivering nervous wreck that can't hit a zombie 5 feet away with an AK... So any tips i might give about how to calm down in a firefight would be very hypocritical :D -
it was the overcooked meat, water and zombies can't make you sick at the moment. Now get some bedrest and drink plenty of fluids.

Help with keeping my cool when meeting players?

Never start yelling friendly! In my experience it only ever creates more anxiety and the terrifying thing about dayz player interactions is that they can escalate so damn quickly into violence. Before interacting: Try to quickly make an assessment of the player by what they're wearing and whether their weapon is drawn. If someones wearing a payday mask and moving around with an m4 equipped you can be pretty sure they're up to no good. Whereas if they are wearing a beanie, a checkered shirt and a courier backpack and are jogging along the road with their weapon put away its more likely they are RPing and will be willing to interact peacefully. At this stage either shot at them, leave them be and let them pass (this is the option that will keep you alive the longest but thats also the dullest) or make contact. Take your time making an assessment. If you have a good spot and they are not coming directly towards you its alot of fun to just sit tight and observe them for a while, knowing that they are completely oblivious to you. You can even stalk them for kicks. Making Contact: Once you have made contact make a your next assessment based on what they say and by their body language (you may think thats a joke but if the person is constantly raising and lowering their weapon, or is trying to get very close to you/corner you, or is just generally moving around in a fidgety way they're probably bad news). If they start yelling friendly like a madman they are very likely not. If they are initially friendly and chatty and then go completely silent and only talk when spoken to be very wary, they might be talking to friends that may be about to ambush you (happened to me once). Essentially if they start talking and acting like an actual human being then you are probably OK. You would be amazed at how accurately you can read a person by the way they talk and the way they move their in game character around. If you get a bad feeling about them DON'T give the benefit of the doubt if you want to survive! If you decide your not happy and if they are armed i would just kill them. It sounds harsh but 90% of the time if they're acting weird its gonna be them or you. After about twenty minutes or so interacting if the person has done nothing suspect and your getting along well you are probably safe. If they were going to attack you they probably would have done it by then. Last thing to note is if they are friendly but don't have a weapon it doesn't mean they will be friendly when they have a weapon! I died too many times making that mistake. If they find a weapon while your together be very, very vigilant for the next 10 mins or so and if their talking or body language changes then i would take them out. Good luck out there. -
The way its done in arma 2 is a good compromise between visuals and performance and allows for some good gameplay based around destruction. Im just disappointed you cant climb up to the top :( .

Death Cooldown (this is going to be really unpopular...)
yorkmorgan replied to 11tw's topic in Suggestions
i see where your coming from with this one. I can promise you that they won't put a cooldown like that on the public servers, the backlash would be massive and with fair reason, alot of people playing are pretty casual and thats fair enough. However I think a very severe cooldown penalty would be great for a serious private hive RP server. i'm already a nervous wreck in this game as it is and if there was a cooldown like that i would have to keep my phone next to me ready to ask for an ambulance to come and put my heart back in after its exploded out of my chest.... -

What's the current hacking status like in DayZ:SA?
yorkmorgan replied to RadikulRAM's topic in General Discussion
I play on UK servers. One time i may have been killed by some hackers in berezino but i couldn't be sure. I spend alot of time by myself on the west of the map tbh so thats the main reason i don't run into any. -
i like how the 22 ammo is really plentiful. Once you have a mag you can just empty it again and again and again.

Why must we have some kind of tool to open cans?
yorkmorgan replied to nickspacemonkey's topic in Suggestions
I imagine you could cut your hands up pretty badly doing that. I'd be up for it if it takes about 5 minutes and there as a decent chance of it causing bleeding. -

yorkmorgan replied to RadikulRAM's topic in General Discussion
Welcome to the forums, Sadly that was a hack: i only know a little bit of coding but do you have any evidence to connect the source code getting stolen and this new hack or is that just conjecture? It will be interesting to see if this hack is slipping under battle-eye detection or if all these new hackers get taken out in a big waveban. -

Ive played alot and never seen a hacker so i usually just think people are exaggerating , but that hack really, really sucks. That will be game breaking if it becomes common. Well done for recording it. -
Underground stuff and my offer of new building.
yorkmorgan replied to Khajiit13's topic in Suggestions
Its a good idea, sewer tunnels under cherno would be immense but they can't do this properly with the engine as it is. The planned changes to the engine will allow for really cool new developments like the ones your suggesting. At the moment if they put in cellars and tunnels they would look awful because inside they would be just as bright as out above ground thanks to the lack of dynamic lighting. But once they get dynamic lighting functioning it will become possible to have dark cellars and gloomy sewers which will be awesome. -
What should be the civilian 5.56 rifle ?
yorkmorgan replied to gibonez's topic in General Discussion
The Vepr super looks very nice, i could see it looking awesome in game. They definitely need to add another 5.56 calibre rifle as M4's only spawn at heli crash sites in 0.45 making them pretty rare. -
Yep: Hicks: The intent is to push the update to exp for stress testing late Monday (prague time) and if everything checks out we will push the update to stable during maintenence. If something prevents that, we'll try and let you guys know.

Smallest Nuke ever made, this'll flush those buggers out of Berezino
-
I agree with grimey, Its a good mechanic, i had some guy charge at me with a pickaxe from behind when i had an AK out and it was actually pretty tricky to spin round and blast him due to the 'rifle lag (?)'. Which is as it should be.

Seriously people? We have known since the start that the engine has/is being heavily modified. That is not news! I've been excited about that since release. This 'News' is nothing more than a rebranding of the heavily modified engine and yet its only now that everyone gets excited? I suppose it just shows how effective rebranding can be...

How far out was it/how long did that take? It certainly would be cool to have some difficult to access places
-
Komarovo is pretty calm with the current spawns as they are
-
Yes to this, would be pretty great.

This is the bit that makes me feel all gooey inside, i hate it when mod players categorically state that Dayz is and always will be just a pure PvP game like its written in stone. Man Rocket is a refreshing change
