    Regarding Northwestern Chernarus

So, after quite a while playing this game, I've noticed something strange. Almost the entirety of NW Chernarus (sorta from the north of the NWAF and everything to the right all the way to Cernaya Polana, or however it's called) is empty. Aside from weird, winding highways that lead nowhere and a metric ton of dirt roads that also lead nowhere, the northernmost section of the map is devoid from anything remotely interesting. Even zombies don't spawn there, and I swear that in my whole DayZ experience I've met something like 10 people in that area. It's just empty, useless space. So, is this intentional? Does the zombie spawn rate drop because there are no buildings, or is the area left intentionally empty so it can be developed further down the line? Because at this point, it's just a vast expanse of... nothing but holding W.
  2. So today I decided to run an experiment. Armed with a Mosin, plenty of ammunition and a long range scope, I made my way to the NEAF and set up camp on the massive hill to the north. Laid myself down on the ground, zeroed in on the ATC tower top and made sure to do the same for the various approaches into it (ergo, the actual airstrip, the entrance to the warehouse, the fields next to it). I then left my 1/40 players server and joined a 39/40 players server. Here are my findings: 1 - People are incredibly dumb. How dumb? Dumb enough to hear gunfire, see their friend being shot and killed, then STOP TO LOOT THEIR DEAD BODY OUT IN THE OPEN (seriously people, the hell is wrong with you?); 2 - Apparently, three dead bodies in a line = perfectly safe to run up and sit there for 2 minutes sorting ammunition (come on now, really?); 3 - It's perfectly safe to stand still, upright, in a room covered almost entirely in glass, after you were scraped by gunfire by an unknown source. It is also normal to expect any threats to come from the stairs, rather than, you know, ANYWHERE ELSE IN A 360º ANGLE (6 out of 10 subjects agree); 4 - Bushes half the size of your torso constitute complete and total cover. I can totally not see your backpack, arms, legs and Dallas Mask; 5 - Groups of 3+ can be convinced to self-destruct with a properly aimed "miss"; 6 - No one bothers to check the incredibly obvious sniping overlook position; 7 - A bright purple mountain backpack amidst a sea of green constitutes perfect cover. Apparently, the Orks were right. Who knew? 8 - "Extensive perimeter search" now means "Run around like headless chickens in a 5 meter radius circle while flailing around like someone having an epileptic fit"; 9 - Exchanging ammunition out in the open with someone holding an assault rifle is a wonderful idea. I actually saved ammo on that one; 10 - Common knowledge dictates that sniper fire should be responded with gunfire in random directions (protip: it worked in Sniper: Ghost Warrior. Doesn't work here) I then left the server to both write down my findings and desperately try to figure out how I could have possibly just sit there for about 2 hours without anyone even firing close to me. For safety reasons, this experiment will not be attempted with the NWAF.

    An Experiment on Airfield Tunnelvisioning

Besides, it's incredibly freakin' easy to to just go around to that position. I hopped merely because I forgot the zero distance and had to figure it out again.

    An Experiment on Airfield Tunnelvisioning

I believe you have missed the point of the post entirely.

    An Experiment on Airfield Tunnelvisioning

Does that actually work?! ... I must try this.

Suddenly hipster jokes, I love you guys.

    An Experiment on Airfield Tunnelvisioning

Is Balota really that packed, though? Considering most of the spawn points are now focused on the E/NE area of Chernarus.

    An Experiment on Airfield Tunnelvisioning

I swear I once saw someone actually look around while in Berezino. I was honestly not expecting people to just be so utterly blind, especially on a wide open, incredibly high-traffic area.

    What has DayZ taught you?

1 - Russian is f*cking weird (I still tilt my head whenever I see a 4 in a town name); 2 - Everyone hates you and/or wants whatever it is you're carrying, even if they have better stuff; 3 - The Universe is a sick, twisted bastard who wants to drink your tears; 4 - Mosin is King, and SKS is Queen; 5 - Payday masks are great indicators for danger; 6 - Fishing is exactly as boring as I thought it would be. Yummy fish, though; 7 - How to make circles on maps and say "DO NOT GO HERE" in bright red letters; 8 - Someone other than me thought it'd be funny to leave a note saying "I'm watching you" in the middle of the woods; 9 - You gon' die, regardless of effort otherwise

    Regarding Northwestern Chernarus

Wonderful. Can't wait to see what that wide open space will turn into.

    Zombie Cleanup Method

I'll be honest, I used the search function and didn't come up with anything like this, so I thought I'd make a poll. Exactly what it says on the title. What's your favorite weapon when dealing with zombies?

    Zombie Cleanup Method

    The what, exactly?

    Duration of alpha

The only players that DayZ will lose in the long run are players like you, who can't understand the concept of "early access". Having some cussing patience. Otherwise, go back to playing something else and come back in a year.

    The KOS conundrum, problem/solution.

I love how people here actually believe that more endgame content will actually reduce the KOS mentality.

are people trying to make the SA to friendly?

    Grammar? On the Internet? MADNESS!

are people trying to make the SA to friendly?

You're one thing. A rather rare example of organization (if what you're saying is factually correct, that is). The problem, though, is that most people will just outright kill for no other reason other than the fact that you happen to be there regardless of anything else.

    Problem

Possibly a very severe case of server item lag. It happens sometimes.

    Quest for Map

Sit around me, young survivors, and listen as I spin a tale of daring courage and spectacular cowardice! A tale of survival, of betrayal, of death, of... Oh screw it. MAPS! Seriously now, MAPS! Having spawned at Kamenka (or whatever it's called) and moving up to the Military base NE of Green Mountain, then hitting the NWAF SEVEN TIMES (yes, I server hopped. No, I didn't take a single thing), then finally making camp at Devil's Castle, here's what I found: 1. Stinking. Map Fragment. Tourist map of West Chernarus. Really? Just... Really? I understand that maps are extremely valuable, and would be one of the things most people would take with them should they need to run away from a zombie infestation (which is why most maps are located inside cars, I'm assuming). But come on now! A freshly spawned military base, with an ATC tower and military encampment, and no maps? That's just dumb. Sure, back in the mod maps were all over the place, but this is kind of extreme, isn't it?

    Quest for Map

Which leads into 2. I don't like using 3rd-party software in a game like this.

    Quest for Map

It took me several days to even find one fragment (S Chernarus, useless for me). And while the rarity is welcome, I honestly believe the spawn rates are a bit too low.
  22. tullyburnalot

    Quest for Map

Well, the ONE map fragment I have was looted from a car. But come on now, military bases should have maps, right?

    Quest for Map

I understand that, but: 1) I hate having to alt-tab every time I wanna get my bearings. Considering I spent most of my time up north, a compass becomes useless after walking through the woods for an hour; 2) Call me old fashioned, but I think using the dayzdb map is immersion breaking. If I'm to use a map, it'll be the in-game map. Not to mention that the in-game map tells me how many players are online, so yeah. 3) It allows me to place markers, which are quite a life-saver, again, because I spend most of my time hanging around the northern woodlands.
