To those who complain about spawn killers.

The only reason people ever complain about spawn killing is because no one bothers to actually survive. They just suicide until they spawn at Balota, get killed by bandits waiting for them, then go complain on the forums. Easy solution: GO. CUSSING. NORTH. The map is what, 225 square km in size? And most people are content in staying around the Balota/Elektro/Cherno area. Live a little. Actually try walking for a change. You'll see that "spawn killing" or "griefing" as you call it drastically drops when you go north. Except for the NWAF, that place is just teeming with server hoppers.
  2. Spawned, first time ever playing the standalone, someone chased me down and gave me an axe while typing "Help. Please kill me". He just dropped all his stuff (pants and t-shirt included) and stood there asking for me to kill him. I was honestly left wondering "... what?"

    A question on canned foods

So, had this interesting thought today, and maybe you guys can help me. After you open it, does canned food go bad? As in, become rotten over time, like the fruit we see laying around?

It was exactly like that back in the mod. The sense of accomplishment is you managing to survive for a long period of time. Being able to look back and say "I lived through that?!" THAT'S what DayZ is all about.
  6. I'm assuming it falls into the hypothetical "elaborate" version the OP mentioned. Imagine, for instance, that you just happened to kill someone in self defense, but you don't usually kill people. The system wouldn't immediately mark you out as "bad". At leas that's what I'm assuming.
  7. This seems like a fantastically wonderful idea! You know what this means, right? It's gonna get the "hot" tag and the scumbags are gonna arrive on force to complain about how this will ruin the game.

    KOS Hysteria

Thing is, I'm not trying to make friends. It's just that the current general attitude has led to me essentially trying to actively avoid any sort of player interaction because I KNOW I'm gonna end up getting shot regardless. And you can only really go alone so far without the game getting boring.

    KOS Hysteria

That's the issue, though. KoS DOES become a problem if 95% of all player-to-player interactions begins and ends with Player 1 shooting Player 2.

    DayZ Is Officially Ruined(Player Wise)

I'd rather spend those 5 hours finding rabbits to strangle with my bare hands and make some stew!

    DayZ Is Officially Ruined(Player Wise)

The KoSers will find a way. They're a sturdy people! Seriously now, that might actually work. However, 5 hours might be a tad bit excessive.

If I might be honest, I don't think any amount of features will deter people who already KoS because it's easier. For us, cooking and hunting and other stuff might be awesome. For other people, they just want more loot.

In real life, perhaps. You'll be hard pressed to find that here, unfortunately.

    DayZ Is Officially Ruined(Player Wise)

You'd be surprised just how savage a human being will go if they're literally starving. Civility and friendliness get thrown out the window when your brain is telling you "EAT OR DIE"

    I don't think he's an elitist. I think he's just a sad little person.

    KOS Hysteria

Hello, long-time mod player here, bought the standalone a few days after it came out... In my personal experience back in the mod, stuff wasn't that different. You can go on and on and on about how KOS wasn't this much of an issue in the mod (which I've seen plenty of people do). You would be lying. KOS has always been, and will always be, a problem. No matter how many features you add, KOS will be around, and it will still be a problem. Why? Because it's simpler. Really, that's just it. You think adding features will stop people KOSing? Why should it? It'll still be easier to shoot first and ask no questions. No manner of features in-game will change player mentality. I said it before and I'll say it again: DayZ is what the PLAYERS make of it, not the devs. And, sadly, most players don't really care enough to have any sort of human interaction beyond point-and-click. So unless you can find a way to change player mentality en masse, KOS is never gonna go away.

    DayZ Is Officially Ruined(Player Wise)

That's the point, actually. I like going up north precisely because I get the whole "alone in world, surviving on what I can find" vibe. It might be just me, but I actually don't mind walking for 3 hours only to find not a single human soul. I actually enjoy it. But yeah, most people here are playing Fallout, not DayZ. Which is kind of a shame, really.

    DayZ Is Officially Ruined(Player Wise)

Have you tried just going North? It's essentially a barren wasteland. You'll find no one there, which is quite odd.

Some people can't fathom the idea of NOT killing people if given the chance.

Aside from the fact that your response to being attacked is to log out because they "didn't ask" (which is quite honestly the most ridiculous thing I have EVER heard), say it with me again: IT'S. AN. ALPHA. A very early, very buggy alpha based on already buggy mod. It literally says so, right there, EVERY TIME YOU LOG IN. You cannot complain that the game feels unfinished because it flat out TELLS YOU that it is. Now, as for the player interaction, you are absolutely right. A lot of people, hell, most people playing this are scumbags who will kill you first because it's easier, which leads to everyone KOSing because no one's bothering to take a chance anymore. But you never log out. You do not, under any circumstance, essentially rage quit because you don't feel like losing, even if the other guys are being di*ks. Just step away from the computer, go have a sandwich, respawn, then go north/west. The starting areas are notoriously low on loot (no idea why, really), but the interior (centre) of Chernarus has a LOT of stuff, and not those many players. There's huge tracts of land where you're guaranteed to never find anyone because they're all farming loot in Cherno or Elektro.

An Open letter to the new guys

Some people will actually refuse to understand what a game is about, then complain that it's not what they want it to be. INTERNET!

So tired of the teleport/frozen bug

That bug's actually saved me from being stuck inside a house a couple of times!

    New player with a question

If you're asking how to deal with zombies, then there's 2 options: If you have an axe, you can try to fight them. How you do it is you run at them, and just before you hit them, you left-click and try to make the axe hit the zombies. Then you back away, let the zombie go through the attack animation, and repeat the whole thing. If you have nothing else (don't try to fight with shovels or anything else, just axes), then just run. Zombies won't chase you across the whole map like in the mod. If you run for about a minute, they'll usually just give up. Maybe even less time.

    New player with a question

Weird. As far as I know, you don't get visual indicators like you did in the original DayZ mod. Maybe you saw a video about that, instead of the standalone? If it really was standalone, then I honestly don't know how they got those indicators. As for the zombies, that's normal. It's a very early alpha, and zombies can pretty much see you coming from a mile away.
