Headphones for Gaming/Music
Mojojoejoe_91 replied to Mojojoejoe_91's topic in Technology/Programming
That looks interesting. Are you using any additional hardware (i.e. soundcard?) or does the usb mixer it comes with act as a soundcard? Is it good for music as well as games? -
I know there's a few similar threads, but I want some specific advice. Basically, I'm looking to upgrade my current headset (Skullcandy Slyr). This headset is by no means bad, but the usb mixer has inexplicably stopped working so I'm forced to use the 3.5mm jack direct to my on-board sound, which leads to a noticeable reduction in sound quality, not to mention the mic can no longer be used. I've done a lot of research already and whilst there's some debate the consensus seems to be to skip 'gaming headsets' and go for a standard stereo headphone and then attach a clip on mic. My budget is £120 max, but anything cheaper is a bonus. I'm looking at these so far: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Audio-Technica-ATH-M50-Monitor-Professional-Headphones/dp/B000ULAP4U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1393415614&sr=8-1&keywords=audio+technica+ath-m50 - Amazing reviews, but apparently lacks soundstage due to being closed back. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Audio-Technica-ATH-AD700X-backed-Hi-Fi-headphones/dp/B009S332TQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1393415710&sr=8-1&keywords=audio+technica+ad700x - These are the opposite, great soundstage (open back) but lack bass. More expensive, but I could get them cheaper from ebay. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sennheiser-High-Headphones-E-A-R-Technology/dp/B004FEEY9A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1393415833&sr=8-1&keywords=Sennheiser+HD558 - Again, good reviews - possibly the best all-rounder but not sure what they'd be like for gaming. and the wildcard: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Yamaha-HPH-200-Premium-Headphones-Black/dp/B005OU5J8O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1393415898&sr=8-1&keywords=Yamaha+hph+200 - Not much info on these, but reviews are excellent. Soundstage is apparently great, and bass is decent - they look a bit flimsy from the pics but I'm sure that's not the case. My concern is that lack of isolation will mean I will hear my computer fans/other sounds which will break immersion. So, there we have it. Any opinions on the above would be great, particularly from those who own any of them. My usage is going to be a mix of music/gaming (not just DayZ) with the occasional movie. I'm also planning to buy an external DAC/AMP to bypass my on-board audio (which is not great) but that's another issue...

I'm not too concerned with the visibility of night-time as it stands. Although I wouldn't mind if they made it a bit lighter. What's making it unplayable is the flashlight issue. As it stands, using a flashlight = asking to be killed. Once they fix it so they don't shine through buildings, then flashlights can be used sparingly (although still with high risk) and looting will be easier. Stating the obvious I know, but this is the more important issue imo.

Sneaky sneaky Met some friendly Russians - they gave me food and a magnum and sent me on my merry way. Moving in This game looks so good at times - one of the reasons why I will never likely play on 1st person servers is because I would miss looking at the brilliant character models.

Can someone point me in the direction of a good full day/night cycle server?

As the title says... preferably UK/EU. Can't seem to find one anywhere, and I'm getting bored of constant sun - want the world to be more dynamic! Thanks p.s wrong section sorry. please move to server section. thanks. -
I don't like what current state of player interaction has turned into

Got the jump on a sniper on top of one of the apartments. I'm a terrible shot so I missed first time. Would probably have got him second time but he logged. Could have resulted in a fun little shootout. So ironic that in DayZ you can run around for hours with little player interaction, and then when action does occur some players don't even face/enjoy it - content to sit and snipe defenceless newbies. -
DayZ Is Officially Ruined(Player Wise)

Couldn't have put it better. -
This is what I currently look like, having just visited NW Airfield for the first time. I got lucky and found a corpse with this mosin and a full ammo box - so surprised that I wasn't sniped in the process! Everyone seems to go for the military look (understandably), so I thought I'd go for something slightly more civilian.
