To stop Kill On Sight, we should make life more valueble

Sigh another day another thread about KOS, guess it's never going to end seeing as KOS is never going to end.
  2. First off the headline of this title just isn't practicle. Headshooting a moving target is hard and having to do that when there's 3 or 4 zombies coming in on you, well good luck on that. I would rather zombie AI and numbers were improved, but only if this isn't at the expense of game performance.

Do we want a reward for surviving?

What you're saying there isn't really valid because, as has been stated above this game is currently incomplete with many of the survival elements missing. Hunting, cooking and more crafting will be added and we can already see a more complex medical system. So you could set up shop out of the towns and rarely go near them if you so wish. You also don't need maps, if you can follow the stars and the postion of the sun in real life, so to can you navigate in the game (not tested this myself as yet). In terms of You Tube I've seen the mod being played in all kinds of mad different ways, sure alot of KOS, but not all the time. I've also experianced it first hand in the mod, I've talked my way out of situations, cooperated, or lived for days on end without going near a town using survival skills. So in short, stop trying to make out that because of your experiances with the game it should be changed to suit you.

So what is the excuse for the poor performance now?

While there are obviously still massive performance issues, everyone can see that, I think you're flying way off the handle. I would suggest giving the game a few months and seeing if it's improved to your standards. Dean has said on this forum, and you were warned when you bought the game that it wasn't worth playing. No if's no buts, you were warned. Underneath your rage there are a couple of concerns I share. For instance there seems to be alot of new content and idea's being added into the game, without any real performance gain as yet. If we want more zombies, loot, and cars and god knows what else with what everyone's demanding, are they gonna be able to do all this while firstly reaching and then maintaining decent performance? I don't know is the answer, but for now I'm still confident they can square it at least enough to offer a decent gaming experiance. So in short hold your peace and wait, give it a rest and come back to it when you've cooled off and see if it's a game for you.
  5. You shouldn't have bought the game then, you were clearly warned not to. Dean Hall himself has said it's not really worth buying at the mo.
  6. Second that I saw the exact same thing on some of the servers. I even saw what can only be described as palatial palaces far in the north for admins and paid up server users. They were innaccessible, indestructible and which in some cases actually teleported you if you got too close.

What do we really want as far as zombies?

Spot on I don't mind more or harder zombies, so long as that is matched by the stealth element of the game. For instance needing LOS and only turning to investigate noises, not instant aggro. Even gunshots in my book should only draw zombies to the area, not directly to the player though if you keep firing they get closer until they zero. If you can hide in time you can evade, otherwise as it stands now (and as it stood in the mod) as soon as you fired you had aggro and players could quite often zero you off the back of it. And again yes on performance, definately needs to be improved before more of anything can be added. You have my beans.

    Zombie Speed

They're a pushover at the mo and I'd like to see more around bigger towns. I don't think at the mo they're anywhere near what the devs have in mind, so I would say a case of suck it and see really. However on the second point part of the whole point of DayZ and what gives it it's atmosphere is the danger from other players. All sorts of things were tried in the mod to make zombies 'more of a threat' insta bleeding, insta aggro from 500 yds, terminator zombies that follow you better than a T1000 and it just made them annoying. Not challenging, just annoying. The problem was there was no way to avoid them (unless you never went in a town), because stealth was never feasible since the zombies ended up with better senses than the average player. So it should be difficult to get into a town and require moving with caution, but I think that should be balanced with a managable stealth element that doesn't require you to spend 3hrs crawling on your belly. For instance line of sight should be required, a noise might make them turn, but not insta zero a player and give chase. Just my 2 cents.

    Less Military. More Apocalyptic. (Clothing)

I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with military kit and it should be in the game, though perhaps at a lower spawn rate then it currently enjoys. But I am all for clothing modification and variety in general. They aren't going to introduce a skill system (as far as I'm aware), so customization is a great way of adding a new element to the game that won't otherwise detract from it's core gameplay.

Remove Atmospheric Sound of Chain Link Fence

I've got no essential problem with it, but most of the sounds seem to have been ported over and the game doesn't yet have it's own pallet as it were. Hopefully the devs will think up some new ones down the track, hopefully a new Zombie noise because the old one really grates on me.

What do we really want as far as Day/Night?

Yeah the lighting needs to be fixed first, but otherwise I like night and kind of feel exposed in the daylight.

What do we really want as far as zombies?

You see now your defining yourself as the only person who can have a valid opinion on what the game 'has' to be. But that aside I'll take each of your points in turn. 1. The game is incomplete, this argument is therefore irrelevent. 2. Almost every time I got killed in the mod it was normally by a bandit group. People tend to group together normally 3-4 sometimes more, and they are often skilled clans too (including survival aspects). Skilled bandit groups would happen, simply because they work well together as a group. 3. Point taken, it is currently rather boring on your own, but I would say again wait and see until they add more of the content before making this call. I never said this game shouldn't be more challenging in some respects, but what I would ideally like to see is a stable version of something not dissimilar to the mod. Why? This game and bohemia in general have always had performance issues. You can't currently go into Cherno or any semi large town for that matter without a marked drop in performance regardless of how good your PC is. Whatever the game is or becomes it needs to sort this out before more features can be added. I think it will get sorted, but before I start asking for more content I'm waiting to see how this pans out first. Should helicopters and loads of .50 calibre sniper rifles be added, I'd prefer not, but we shall see. 4. As to the point of Dean Hall endorsing a skill system this was the latest I could find from him on the subject: 'For anyone wanting skill trees and similar features in DayZ Standalone, Rocket said that this is not something they are looking at because “if you are good at something in the real world, you should be good at it in the game.” Adding skill trees would cause problems with this in that they give bonuses in areas that may make things unfair, so keeping with the system ensures that players learn as they go and become better at survival. The alternative would be allowing the game to compensate for things players aren’t as good at.' http://www.dayzbuzz.com/rocket-dayz-standalone-interview/ But I have seen older articles where he talks of learned skills so if you have a newer link by all means post, but given that a skill system is not currently on the planned implementation list I'd say this is still at best up for grabs. As to the last part, again I'd say your trying to dictate how you think the game ought to be made and played and trying to move it away from what it currently is to suit yourself. You declare simultaniously that you represent the 'real' community based on a couple of likes and that everyone who isn't exactly like you is a 'casual player'. My friend you are fantastically self absorbed if that is your real position.

What do we really want as far as zombies?

Man you out to consider maybe editing what you say, you could have said all of that in about a 10th of the space. Not dissing what your saying, there's just no need to write essays where a few sentances will do the trick. Even with a skill system however I don't think you will eliminate people looking for 'holy shit moments' as you put it. But look at what most of the game is now, you spend most of it running around looking for stuff, avoiding/killing zombies and about once every few hours (if you're not on the coast) you meet another player. Only a very small percentage is actually in combat with other players, so not exactly 'holy shit'-tastic. In other words most players currently spend most of their time surviving already. But what you're talking about doing is setting it up so you have to cooperate more, based on the last thing you said. That's fine for you and the others who like that, but still what about people who like to play alone and don't like interacting with others? And bandits cooperate in groups to kill people, so engineering cooperation into the game doesn't really resolve that issue. Infact all it will do is mean you get teams of highly skilled bandits with the skills they need to cover each other. You see by trying to cater to one group and play style, you just create other problems or inadvertantly magnify your own. Why can't we just accept that having a massive open sand box style game is in itself a massive achievement, and just try and perfect what we do have instead of trying to make it into something some of us think it ought to be?

What do we really want as far as zombies?

While I don't disagree with what your saying I think what I meant was because Zombies are at the mo so incomplete it's hard to know what the team are intending. Once they're in the game more fully we can fine tune what we ask for, but until then I think saying what they should or should not be is difficult because we don't know yet how it will play out in the game. The mod was always what the mod was and never felt like a deathmatch to me. Sure there was a lot of KOS, but I don't think the game should be changed fundamentally just to suit certain people who like to play cooperatively. There should be more to do and there will be with more of everything, vehicles and loads more so before asking for terminator zombies (I hated it when they went that way in the mod) lets see what having the rest of the game content does to peoples play styles. Having more to do will simply mean that more people will spend time doing other things other then hunting players. And if you don't like getting shot, simply leave the coast and avoid the obvious hot spots, I do this and my character has been alive for weeks now. Simple no?

What do we really want as far as zombies?

The problem is that at the moment it doesn't matter how good your hardware is it won't make a damn bit of difference, the issues are mostly server side. As I said in my above post I have freinds with brand new rigs and the game still grinds to a halt in large towns. This is a longstanding Bohemia issue, but I'm hoping the devs can sort it out.
