  2. I know what motion sickness is, im experiencing it by my self when i haven´t played 3D Games for a longer period of time. Yeah, it is really a bad thing. To avoid it i have to play regularly and also things like FOV, viewing distance (eyes to screen) have to be in a certain range and maybe if possible head bob and such things turned off. From my experience i would say 1PP vs 3PP is not really what makes the difference. Someone mentioned that 3PP uses a wider FOV, but that´s something that can be adjusted in 1PP. People only have to know that FOV and viewing distance is an important factor when it comes to motion sickness. But the point is that some guys want to tell us that something like 1.5 million DAYZ gamers have motion sickness and only a small portion have no problems. That´s what i can´t believe! Of course everybody can play what ever mode he wants. But if you are making arguments you have to do better ;)

  4. Maybe in many cases it is just the term "hardcore" that scares people. I´m not asking that everyone has to play 1PP, just a few more! So what about renaming the hardcore-mode to regular, because actually this is the normal mode and how it´s meant to be played? At least from my understanding of an immersive survival game. And former regular should be called "casual" or something like that. I´m pretty sure that the psychological effect of the changed terms would bring more players to 1st person. Not that i want to trick anyone to hardcore, i really think this terms are a better match to the particular modes.

    " Rocket already said he cannot fix this due to everyones monitors being different and having to adjust gamma and brightness. " We have a standard for monitors since 1996 called sRGB. It defines how a monitor should display colors. Many monitors nowadays have an extended colorspace (wide gamut) which gives them more saturated colors, but key values like Gamma ~2.2 are the same. Ok, not every monitor meets exactly the specification and also a monitor is aging, that´s why professionals need to calibrate their devices. Due to that reason i would allow to correct gamma in a range of of maybe 20% and not 100%. And i can´t see a reason at all why there should be an adjustment for brightnes ingame. But opinions are there to be ignored :-)

  8. Most people think they have an advantage when they can look over walls, through windows while in prone position and so on. And they forget or rule out that the others can do the same. Somehow that´s simply stupid! When i started to play the SA (never played the mod) i´ve also prefered the 3rd person view, because its more comfortable over all (higher cam position, better overview and so on) But after some time it made me sick to get killed all the time by people which have the patience to lay behind windows, walls, on roofs all day long without moving a meter. That kind of patient players have the real advantage! I actually want to run around and i have no chance to discover "that players" but they can see me and wait ∞ for their moment. I understand that some people have problems with motion sickness. But if that´s the reason we would have 5% on 3PP and 95% on 1PP on not vice versa. Ok, it´s not really a problem for me, but some more 1PP players to have more populated hardcore servers would be nice.

    Good to have you on my side :) Of course i´m aware of the current state of the game, i just want to sensitize the devs not to neglect the importance of sound. And of course i want it now instead of later, even if it is not feasible :lol: Human nature............... :)

    POTTENI,decent? Really? Ok, everyone has it´s preferences........ When i was younger it was all about graphics quality like probably most of you and it took time until i discovered how much good sound can add to the immersion of a game. Now if you ask me to turn down graphics or sound, i would turn down graphics, no doubt. Of course both should be good! Well, most of you are just looking at nice graphics on a decent monitor and will never bother with soundcards, real hifi headphones, HRTF and whatever. Instead you are sticking to onboard audio, crappy PC-speakers or headsets, wrong setups and lack of knowledge what you are missing. And yes, even your expensive Steel series 7.1 or whatever headset isn´t worth 5 Euro when it comes to sound quality. Actually i don´t want to convince anyone! You have to discover it by yourself, apart from that it is useless.

    It shouldn´t be too easy. And a book can be very useful when you let the broken legs heal over time :) Harvesting the sticks from fir trees with a chance of 50:1 or so? Why not!?

I guess we can´t have everything and something like this may be a problem with how sound nowadays works in windows (XAudio 2 ?). And this is only really noticeable at samples with a long duration. Like i said, nowadays. I can´t remember such things at times where we had hardware accelerated audio (Creative, EAX, OpenAL.....) Oh, when i remember games like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl and it´s successors with it´s fantastic atmospheric and precise positional soundscape (on Creative X-FI, OpenAL+EAX ), or UT2K4 where you could nearly spread headshots without monitor due to the precise pos. audio. I really want to turn back the time :(

    Splint

    Wooden sticks use 2 slots in the inventory or 3 slots when crafted to a splint. Earlier i made the mistake to throw out the sticks because i wanted the space for food, ammo or whatever looked more important to me like trivial wooden sticks. I´ve learned! ;) Whenever i find wooden sticks i take them and leave them in the inventory, whatever it costs. Of course it´s bad luck when you are early in the game, haven´t yet found sticks and break your legs. Morphin also cures broken legs. I wonder how a strong pain reliever can heal bones, but ok :o

    Hm, there are some more sounds that have changed, some of them only in the experimental so far. But you are right, it´s way too less for that amount of time. I guess an interested soundnovice could do that few recordings + editing waaaaay faster ( i´m trying to avoid to say in a few hours). But of course i don´t know what´s going on behind the curtains. Anyway, my first priority would be to sort out the flaws of the sound engine instead of just replacing samples. Good gamesound is very important for me because it helps to fight the environment and other players with good positional audio and also produces atmosphere and atmosfear. Randomly missing gun sounds and bad perception for direction and distance is surely not what we want in a game like Dayz. Not to mention the funny munching and zombie-quaking sound fragments. And i want to hear someone running to me earlier than at the last 2 meters. I know it´s alpha and also that the devs are aware about this. But i really like to see better/correct sound in less than one or two years :-)

  18. Today i met a guy on a looted experimental server. I asked if he needs some food. Of course he said yes and i dropped him edible(!!!) red Berries which i have collected. He was convinced that i want to poison him, said "haha good try" and ran away. I guess that is an example of a non-pro. Missing knowledge (stupidity may be to hard) makes it not easier to fight mistrust and play the game it´s meant to be played. One more total flop in acting friendly............

    I also don´t want floating names. Char customization also is not what i´m thinking of, as long no one is forced to wear certain colors or something. For now you can look different every few minutes and i guess that will not change in the future. And the games style is not to implement various alien races or different pokemon faces for each player. I don´t have a recipe how this can be solved. I´m fully trusting the creators to find a good solution for everybody. Only thing i have is my opinion that we need limited anonymity.

    Seriously also! If a person kills me, trolls me or does other evil things from a reasonable distance, i want to recognice that person again a few minutes or an hour later. I maybe want to take revenge or keep my distance from that player. And i want to share food or ammo with the nice guy i once met or the knight in shiny armour who was searching sticks or morphin for me when i had broken legs. This is realistic interaction and not to be anonymous and unrecogniceable under any circumstances. And once more, it´s not necessarily the name i want to know at first place. Would be nice to report cheaters and maybe notorious exploiters, but you can´t have all. Just a way to know that this person is the same like before. In my opinion we shouldn´t listen too much at persons which keep writing "no" in threads like this. Very obviously most of them want to be anonym because of the way they want to play, which is maybe not the way it´s meant to be played. Maybe more examples from this type of player: "noooooo logout timer" "noooooo login timer" "noooooo clicking sounds when joining" "iiiiinstant zero delay ability to fire when loging in" "noooooo spawn in the eastern region" "moooore precise long range weapons" "wheeere is the long range scope (and of course more of it)" "moooooore weapons" "moooooore ammo" "moooooore Bambis in Elektro" :-) "weeeeee want our charakter duplication bug back" "Battle Eye is uuuuuuuuuuuseless shit and bans innocent players" Not all of this applys to every "no-person" but several of it to most of this people. But i´m sure Dean knows about this and is trying hard to do the right things. Some edits above!

    For me it would be enough to recognice the bandit, killer, ghoster, hopper, asshole, troller, wall glitch sitter, nice guy, whoever from like 20 minutes ago even without knowing the name. It´s up to the developers to show some creativity :-)

    Like one above mentioned, in real life you can recognice peoples faces to know who they are. And even more you can recognice well known people even without seeing her face, just her bodys. There are tall and small people, fat, thin, roundback, hollow back, low shoulders, high shoulders, wide and narrow, different styles of walking and moving. There are so many variations it´s nearly reliable as a fingerprint. So my opinion ist that we need some kind of replacement for this real life feature. I don´t say a name should pop up from somebody lying on a roof or behind a bush 500m away.

    An interesting fact regarding sounds..

    No, for example i was at the Firestation in Elektro, in the House on the other side of the street. I´ve looked at the top of the firestation and could clearly see a guy firing with his Mosin but i only heard like two out of five shots. So for now i can say that the problem is not only at large distances nor can i confirm the theory of relative viewing direction to the sound event. Very often i can hear shots from the sides or behind me. But at this point i have to say that the perception of distance and precise direction is not very good most of the time. From other games i know that this can work much better and reliable. My sound setting is 5.1 or 7.1 over stereo headphones. The sound card is calculating the HRTF out of the 5/7 channels to get 3D sound over just stereo heaphones as you may know. I have a Creative Titanium HD soundcard (using CMSS3D) and a Asus Xonar STX (Dolby Headphone). The result in terms of the mentioned things is the same.
