Server time has its own column in server browser. Again, pay attention before clicking away like your very existence depends on it, and life will treat you just dandy.
-
OR... You could bother to check the time of the server before you mindlessly just click away like a junkie? Besides, im sure the system will be refined over time.

Is there anything being planned that incentivizes not shooting on sight?
Wheunis replied to alleycat's topic in General Discussion
I'm not one of these players, but I can FULLY advocate the mindset. You are dead wrong on that point. The one where other games give better pvp. CoD and BF and all it's kin DOES NOT give me the oppurtunity to completely ruin your day and invalidate everything you have "worked" so hard to get with just a single click or two... and THAT is why DayZ pvp, and specifically KoS or CoD playstyle is so appealing to that specific type of audience. -

Nothing will EVER make someone not KoS you. Get that idea out of your head. RIGHT NOW!!! As much as you might dislike it, the penalty could be a 7day ban from that server, and people will STILL DO IT. If you want to play a purely pve zombie game, maybe look somewhere else. DAYZ IS NOT THAT GAME.- 344 replies

Do Not Use The RIS Handgaurd It Destroys The M4's Accuracy
Wheunis replied to leefriendfield's topic in General Discussion
I'm completely ok with it having that result. What I am generally not ok with is the SIZE of said results atm. The resulting increase/decrease between the different parts have too large an impact on the gun's performance right now. I would be very much in favor of an MP part outperforming the standard parts by 20% or so. 10% over the "midrange" parts. But 600% and 200%... that's taking it a bit far... -
A console version would kill this game tbh..
Wheunis replied to scaramoosh's topic in General Discussion
Because having a Boeing engine installed into your car, without modifying the capacity of the fuel-supply-line would totally end up using all of the power of the new engine, RIGHT?! And seeing as you have a hard time with understanding, I am forced to link you simplistic resources like Wikipedia. Enjoy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megahertz_myth -

And a FACT, as you so kindly refer to it, is that the PS4 has MORE THAN DOUBLE the memory transfer speeds of any desktop computer (except maybe the new mac pro). Like I said, I don't even own a console of any sort, but performance is not simply measuring one thing and throwing down as if that's the end of the test. -

Im fine with a console version tbh. If any compromises need to be made to make it work, they can simply pull a Blizzard D3 and segregate the different platform players to their own hives/servers/whatever. Even though I don't own any consoles anymore, I would love to see this on console, if for nothing other than me wishing that Rocket and his team does well at this project. -
Do Not Use The RIS Handgaurd It Destroys The M4's Accuracy
Wheunis replied to leefriendfield's topic in General Discussion
That's the kind of thing I have been testing for a long time. The ACTUAL difference in dispersion at 300 meters between OE(regular) and MP is a 600% increase for the Buttstock, and around 200% for handguard. Yes, i wrote that right and you read it correctly. The ACTUAL ingame difference in dispersion between standard and MP is 6x and 2x for buttstock and handguard respectively. For clarification: Testing was done with all pristine parts, including bullets, simply to rule out their possible impacts. Testing was done with shots fired at a specific identifiable spot on a wall, from 300m away (found a very nice spot in north of map for this - took 2 hours to get it exactly right at 300m). Testing data compiled from 100 shots per pose (standing, crouch, and prone). Testing done with stock M4 parts and then swapped parts 1 at a time to narrow that particular part's performance. Conclusions made from overall spread of shots mapped, and volume of total area calculated. (trust me when i say I have spent MULTIPLE boxes of ammo in testing - not always easy to find a server empty to do 2-3 hour tests on it - not to mention how much runaround it took to get all the ammo lol) -
Do Not Use The RIS Handgaurd It Destroys The M4's Accuracy

While I do know where they got these values, and I know you're just reporting data: Those are incomplete values/data from those items. Firstly, the M4 base weapon has a single shot dispersion of 0.1000 as reported by DB. They go further to add that Autofire dispersion is 0.1013. This is all incomplete, but does allow for a clearer picture if you know where to look. First thing to know is that there are MANY "dispersion values" for any weapon. First is it's rested, starting dispersion value. This is achieved from a character in CROUCH position, not tired from movement, simply aiming down the sights. Second is it's incremental dispersion value. This is basically what we call recoil. This is the amount that your dispersion will increase by, per shot fired. Third, and tied into second value, is the dispersion decay - ie: the amount of dispersion per second that is decayed (back to starting value) after a shot is fired. Alongside those you have other factors that also come into play, such as character prone, character standing, character tired, character broken arm, etc. But for now, we will assume these are all out of the scope for just now. So... M4 base dispersion is 0.1000. MP Butstock is @ -0.0490. MP Handguard @ -0.0490. That leaves dispersion at 0.002. Just for giggles, we attach a Silencer, which apparently modifies dispersion @ -0.0001. So now were at 0.0019 for the M4. This is only in crouch. We havent added bipod+prone yet! (For the record, that is -0.0500) For comparison, the Mosin has a starting dispersion value of 0.0025, with only the recently added compensator affecting that (at a value of -0.05). So... just from that, a MP'd M4 has better accuracy than a Mosin? Without even the bipod?! This seems to argue that a bipod+prone MP'd M4 will have a dispersion above dead-pinpoint?! No... simply... never... There are at least 4 other dispersion values at play. But, as a simple statement regarding M4 parts: Yes, MP parts are SIGNIFICANTLY more accurate than any others available. But PLEASE do not quote the DB numbers as gospel, as it sends out a generally wrong message about weapon accuracy in general. -
Well, if the cheating is indeed as massive a problem as you all make it out to be... I guess Dean pulled a pretty fast one on all of us. All those promises about not letting SA slide to hackers like the mod did; It means nothing when you already have *insert number here* millions already from sales. So, there you have it folks. SA was the encore for Dean taking your money.

On an empty server, it uses around 15-20KBps. It will use the exact same amount, even on a full server, as long as nobody is within 1km distance from you. The more people within your 1km bubble, the more bandwidth it starts using. In a 3v4 fight I once had, i noticed it spiking to 150KBps. So, it's usage is wildly variable on the "traffic" near you. But if I were you, I would calculate at max rate for safety. So work out how much it would use at 100-150KBps over an hour.

Didn't say it was or wasnt hack. Didn't say whether I think the video shows desync either. I just commented that EVERYTHING people say on these forums always comes with "blah blah blah... and I definitely didn't have desync... blah blah blah". I mostly find it hilarious every single time somebody makes that claim. Like they have some magic flawless desyncodetector in their vest pocket... Ontopic: I have seen something similar to those videos happen. Only saw it once. Guy was running place for a few seconds and then appears somewhere else, spinning REALLY fast and punching. Don't know if it is a hack, or not. Don't even really think I care all that much right now. I say have at it. The bans will come, and they will have to buy more copies. All that money = more development money! HUZZAH!

It's funny how people make this claim. You do realize that if you are in fact, desynced, that YOU will be unable to tell from the playerlist window? The only way to be sure is to have someone else check your desync, and you his. Just find it terribly funny as I quite often check my desync and see it at 0, only to have my friend tell me to stop and drop because "youre on 100k".

Bright Green Hydration, but thirsty

Known bug that got fixed in last week's patch. Unfortunately, it will only take effect on new characters after said patch. Basically, some notifiers (like stuffed, healthy, healing, etc) did not go away but stayed forever. So, one of two choices. 1: Stick it out and just keep playing as is. 2: Die and respawn. (i suggest finding an empty server and killing yourself near Berezino in the hopes you MIGHT make it back to your gear...) -
I hope vehicles will be rare - A video I made so you can compare
Wheunis replied to res's topic in General Discussion
If you really going to be stupid about it, i will spell it out nice and easy so you can follow along. The specific region of the world we are playing in, is NOT the US. In such environments, the same as I live in South Africa, fuel isnt simply available at all times and locations. Apart from large cities (none of which exist in DayZ), fuel pumps at stations empty out in a matter of hours once they are refilled. In a particular area that my friend lived in, very similar to DayZ, the fuel stations would only open for half a day on Tuesdays, when they get their supply. 90% of that fuel is used by the farmers for their tractors and machinery. Note how i said USED, not STORED. You may now go back to your rosecolored glasses you see the world through, and simply imagine that massive amounts of fuel is stored by every other person in every inch of the world, and it will never dry up. -

I've been saying what OP has been saying forever now. The map is not large enough for vehicles. Besides, what is this? Watered down GTA?! The only vehicles I would personally approve of, and find fitting to the game, is: 1: Mountain Bicycle - About 2x runspeed. Uses less energy than running. All-terrain use. 2: Rollerblades/Rollerskates/Skateboard - Road use only, Uses same or slightly less energy than running. Roughly 3x running speed. Apart from that, I MIGHT be convinced towards a hang-glider than can be used to, say, travel from Green Mountain/Devil's Castle, at reasonable speed. Gotta say though, that landing it should be very hard and have a very high chance of broken legs/arms/death if landed incorrectly. But I stand firm that cars, trucks, planes of any sort, or any vehicle that requires fuel should be a massive no-go for DayZ. -
Patch 0.35 coming today, when do we get the patchnotes?
Wheunis replied to Odahviing's topic in General Discussion
They are tied to the same system atm. Dont know if they will split them and do one at a time, or both at once, or what. Details unknown. -
You probably have a broken arm. Ive heard stories of this, but havent experienced it myself. Could be that the status display for it wont show? Take some morphine and see if that clears things up in a minute or two.

Its highly unlikely that you will be able to play this game at all.

Wheunis replied to Odahviing's topic in General Discussion
Truth be told, im not realistically expecting that one until April at the earliest. The itemcode in general is waaaaayyyyy unoptimized still. Thats the biggest thing holding it back. With itemcode as it is atm, respawning loot would put such insane stress on servers that they are likely to crash with 3+ people on them if respawnloot was active. -

I think today is mostly just the hotfix, and then next week we maybe get a doubledose of stuffs. -
The only thing that worries me at all is the Geforce 610. Its a really weak card in comparison to other options. Even my Radeon 7970 struggles a bit in bigger cities like Cherno, Electro, and Svetlo. See here: http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=GeForce+GT+610

LIKE I SAID: Experimental server. More specifically... I found it in the house with the restaurant-ish kitchen area. On the last table directly by the little entrance to the "bar(?)"
