From the 0.49 dev blog update they are talking about Vehicle component design. Does anyone have an idea of how they will implement vehicles? I hope to death, that I will not be able to find a brand new car and drive off. I sincerely hope that you will need to find parts for it to work. At the very least you should need to find gas and oil, maybe tires. But more components would be nice. Like with guns, that you can add elements to it, to work better. And I want them to break down, and be fixable, but also possible to ruin.. Thoughts?

The game is hardcore enough as it is, I don't need these crashes to feel vulnerable. About 90% of the times I die, its because of a crash near a zombie, not having enough time to get off the server, and not enough time to enter the server before im dead. Only way is to play with a friend and be close all the time. Freeze crashes are so common, I wonderwhy I even bother. Especially the 1 hour runs, and deaths upon arrival in front of a zombie. Ridiculous. Good night.

Recent Freezes upon entering server - my fix - Battleye issue
Cydone posted a topic in Troubleshooting
Ive been freezing up since yesterday every time I entered a stable branch server. I have been trying alot of different things, and have come across one thing that seems to fix it. (after hours and hours of trial and error) From what I can see I think it is a battleeye issue. 0. I set everything back to normal graphic settings (don't think this did it though) 1. Access the Dayz folder through steam 2. Copy to Desktop the Battleye folder, and delete it from the Dayz folder. 3. Restart game, and it wont enter any servers because of failed battleeye initialization. 4. So you exit game, copy the battleeye folder back to the Dayz folder (accessed through steam) and restart game. For some reason it will now REINSTALL battleeye, and this fixed my freezes. Cheers. -
Impretty sure its an update problem.

Someone talks about a backup file that can be deleted and playtime is up to 5 mins.. but then freezes are back.

I think its widespread, I got this too starting last night.

DayZ keeps crashing when I try to join a server?
Cydone replied to Paule2934's topic in Troubleshooting
Same. 5 seconds of game time and it freezes up. Tried to reinstall and play with settings. Still freezes. -
Since yesterday my game now freezes up 1-5 seconds after entering a server. Tried the following: 1. Reinstalling 2. Tried with several new to older graphics drivers 3. Settings to disable/low Same, no changes, crashes/freezes after very few seconds. Unplayable. Will go play Diablo and whine.

Nights simply too dark. Like walking on the dark side of the moon.
Cydone posted a topic in General Discussion
Few times in my life have I ever experienced a night as dark as the darkness in Dayz. Sure in the middle of the Amazon, it gets damn dark, also at the bottom of the sea. But rarely this dark, and hardly every night. Rarely will you be in a night so dark you can't even see your own hand. Love the nights, but its like playing in a jar full of tar.- 64 replies

And you ruined that guys day. Say hallo, check if he is friendly, if not, kill him. Don't just walk around killing people. It takes no skill whatsoever to sit in a location and wait for a guy to come by, and then backstab him. If he was a serverhopper, the story is quite different though.. Still, KOS is for pussies.

I dropped my ammo box and two rifles, only to find them again!
Cydone posted a topic in General Discussion
I think we all have come to experience taking out an ammo box (or your backpack) putting it on the ground, to get from it what you need, only to run off and leave it there, forgetting all about it. I did just that. At the far NW corner of the NW Airfield, I dropped my ammo box. Realized it on way my back to Star Sobor. There was so much ammo in it, that I simply couldnt leave it, and had to run back. And sure enough, there is was, on the ground waiting for me. Love that stuff! Now, I was lucky enough to find two rifles on my last Airfield run, so I was actually carrying a rifle on my back and another in my hands, wanting to bring the second one to a friend. And so when I started to run, I accidentally tapped my water canister into my hands, and dropped the rifle in my hands as a result. Now, I had only run about 10-15 meters. But it took me a good 20 minutes to find the rifle again! Perhaps alittle too difficult. Its like they almost dissapear in the foliage, or look smaller on the ground or something. Now, a happy camper again, I started to run off. And just when I met my friend somewhere between the two Stary's I froze out. And ofcause when you dropout/in you drop everything you have in your hands. So there i was running, with zombies after me mind you, and I froze out. When I came in, rifle was gone, and 3 zombies were in the place that I left. So I ran a few meters, took the other rifle, and gunned them down. Returned to the spot, no rifle. So IF I dropped it on logout, surely it should have dropped where the zombies saw me last? But no, nothing. So I thought "alpha..." But still my friend and I searched for about 20 minutes or so, and right there on the ground, not too far from where I dropped out, the rifle was on the ground! Just loved the fact that FOR ONCE the items werent lost to some annoying bug, but were just good old fashioned hard to find. Cheers. -
Most people probably woulnd't come here and confess their most emberrasing moments in Dayz. If we hear anything about extremely bambi behavior, it will not be from the noobs themselves but from witnesses. So I thought, having big enough balls to do so, that I'd share with you one act of super noobiness from my part (and my friends) I have logged about 50 hours of gametime, and have not played the mod, so I was (and apparantly still am) pretty much a downright noob (read my review here). A friend and me had finally got around to finding out where the good loot was, and having been looting the military base and airfield for a few days, dying, going back, dying, going back, falling, going back, and dying some more, and then finally having a succesful session, we decided to head for the coast. We had some other friends starting to play, so we thought, lets give em a good start, a gun and what not. Proud like 12 year old brats with brand new (badly damaged) M4's we ran through the countryside, frivolously shooting at zombies and finally reaching the outskirts of Electrovodsks. Our biggest concern at the time was snipers, so we did try and stay out of sight somewhat, never did we think that the noobs in town could get us though, US with all this gear!? no way! Only problem is, this is Dayz, there are no rules and everybody dies, and so surely enough, we would soon enough find ourselves in a situation, with no way out, and to die and fast, by the hands of a guy who was just alittle less noob than us. So, just before reaching Electro there was a few houses on the side of the road and we decided to check for some food. We took one house each, not worrying about anything, and then suddently my friend doesnt answer on viscinity chat, and I get a text message on skype on my laptop "Help!". (apparently this dude had sneaked up on my friend while he was looting a can of sardines... what a way to go) Wtf? What could happen to a dude with full gear? So what do noobs do? They rush to help their friends! Having alittle bit of wits left however, I started to make my way to the house crouching and rifle high. But just before reaching the last corner before the entrance this dude comes running around the corner with a firemans axe held high, and I shit my pants and start fireing my rifle in what I thought was directly at his body, (come to think of it I must have hit everthing else but him). *PLUNCK* and "You are dead." WTF!!? How can I die? I have a freaking Rifle ffs, give me a break and bla bla. (to be fair I did hear him moan and groan alot, and his screen MUST have been all grey by now, but he survived the encouncer nonetheless! So there you go. That is how two almost fully equiped and rifle loaded noobs got butchered by one guy with an axe. Maybe it was lag, maybe it was the alpha monster, or maybe it was just very crappy aiming. Or maybe, just maybe this dude knew what he was doing, I dunno, all I know is we died, and fast. So I respawned, found my corpse, all looted, found my friends corpse, which had everything still there but the weapons. And then almost to humiliate us more, a firemans axe on the side. It is lessons like these that, although they are painfully brutal and hard to bear, do make you a slightly better survivor in the end. Every day I learn more and more about how to stay alive for longer. I recall in somewhat more clarity now, my first few hours of inland adventure, meeting two fully geared dudes coming out from the woods shouting: "Stay off the roads, man!". Slowly, I start to realize what they were on to!

The backpack in a backpack, in a backpack... bug/exploit?
Cydone posted a topic in General Discussion
Right now you can put a large backpack inside your backpack and gain an extra 10 slots. While this is nice, I am wondering if it was intentional? Havent yet tried to put a backpack into the backpack I already have in my backback... if it works that would mean unlimited inventory space, even though it would also be pretty annoying accessing the innermost backpack. Solution would be, to have the backpacks fill out the backpack its put in. but then again you could put a smaller backpack in a big one, and you would still get an advantage, just like with the smaller yellow bokses, which i think works perfect. 6 slots for 4 in the inventory.. What do you think? -
If a zombie kills you, you should become a zombie, with all your gear.
Cydone posted a topic in General Discussion
Most zombie lore has it that if you get bitten or otherwise come in contact with a zombie, you will become a zombie yourself. So why not have players become zombies, if they are at least killed by a zombie? Imagine having all this zombies running around, that used to be players! -
I have an idea for helping with the KOS problem. Rocket should read.
Cydone replied to Rzach's topic in General Discussion
Op actually has a very well thought through idea that you kids should listen to or go play one of your useless little games, that the market is full of. Meeting people deep in the wild, and saying "hi" to them, would rarely result in a gun fireing rampage from the message recieving party. KOS has nothing to do with reality, killing other players sometimes does. The KOS in Dayz is very unreal as it is now, and other players are seen only as loot boxes or possible threats to iliminate. There is no insentive what so ever to let another player live, yet in real life you would have hundres or thousands of good reasons. Let me name you a few if you are still 12 and havent grown up yet. 1. The fear of going totally insane from killing other people (Go read Dostoyevsky Crime and Punishment if you want more in depth wisdom on how this might affect you kids) 2. The fear that you just killed the last human being on earth, and now you have to live with the zombies 3. Company. If you have been in the wild for weeks, you would never ever just shoot someone down, you would very carefully try and make contact. 4. Grouping against zombies. This is one of the things I fail to understand. In an apocalypse, you would be desperate to find people with whom you could group up with and fight off the zombies, not so in Dayz. (maybe if they made the zombies a real threat, they are pussy easy to kill right now) 5. Empathy. You see a guy bleeding, dying, and you shoot him in his face to take his gear? come on, you may be 12, but this is insane behaviour that hardly exists in real life, even considering an apocalypse. Empathy is one of the main drivers of human evolution. Point is, in a game with no real consequences for killing other players, it will be just end up becoming your every day lousy and super boring and immature first person shooter experience. The OP is not talking about taking the HARDCORENESS out of the game, but to make it more real, more mature, more like real life. Kids go back to school please, and stop ruining our otherwise fantastic apocalypse simulator! -
You finally reach this landmark on the map, a nice hazy ruined castle from a long forgotten age. You scavenge about almost feeling like an explorer. But you find nothing, all you do is fall off a wall and die.. But why not have some special kind of loot here? I could understand that old rusty swords might take away from the "post apocalyptic" time setting, but let us be able to find something here at least! Knives Swords Cloth Dead tourists Old wine Old coins Old books

My setup is right on or just below min. reqs. and it plays fine :)
Cydone posted a topic in New Player Discussion
My setup is my brothers old computer, which not that long ago was a beast of a machine! It was a crowning achievement in gaming, and today, probably wouldn't even sell for 100USD. Windows XP 3gb ram (the 4th malfunctioned) 2.13ghz dual core Geforce 8800 GTS (I guess, this is what's holding it all together) 17" TFT screen (the most painfull part of the setup) Now I crash every 60 minutes of gametime in Dayz, which is bearable. If I alt tab to desktop I crash. I have plenty of freezes, just plain CTD's and a few blue screen of death's, but all adds to the emersion of the game.. playing on an old beat out, battered and left almost for trash computer is good fun. B) I can even put most of the config - Video on high settings, and it will play with little lag. I do go for Normal or low settings though, with clouds off and shadows low, and it runs amazingly well. Only the highrises in Dubky makes me lag hard and long. Now, its not that I can't afford a new build, I just havent cared to do it. Dunno If I should get a Desktop or one of those nice Asus ROG gaming laptops.. Here is a screenshot from normal settings on my setup that runs remarkably fine (clouds disabled and shadows low, other is normal) Would I experience significantly better graphics with say a 1500USD setup? -
Easy, serverhopping. The less pop a server has, the more serverhoppers it will also attract.

The amount of people up north is TOO DAMN LOW.
Cydone replied to razgriz93@gmail.com's topic in General Discussion
And it should be this way. Most people would roam about and despair in the cities in an apocalypse.. this were their homes.. this is where most food is to be found. Very few would have the courage to unroot and go north. I think its only realistic, and should stay that way. But there should be loot up there, and maybe more too. -
We start off not knowing anything, and not much background story has been told if any about what is going on in Dayz. We just have to survive. Which is cool. But in the longer run, it would be nice if the storyline was discoverable. Now you have a few scenes here and there, where you can make out what might have happened. But you they should add much more of this. As this poster here talks about make the scenes much more dramatic. They should not only add much more "last stand" fillings to the game, but also lootable logbooks and stories about the time up until the zombie apocalypse. What happened etc. Should be hidden and hard to find, but it should be there, and create depth to the game..
-
Great idea there. Imagine having your logbook, your writings, the story of your "family" inside a game like this, to be discovered by other players. They could make competitions, and the greatest stories would be added to the game. Puts a smile on my face !
-
This is something we will likely come to see, since it will make alot more sense, and also give bambis an edge where otherwise they have had none. Running at full speed, with full gear, shouldnt be possible. Neither should it be possible to run at full speed while wounded etc.

General Wishlist -- Atmosphere -- Totally Horrifying
Cydone replied to Ijin's topic in General Discussion
Yea, good idea. I love entering ereas where you can easily see that it has been a place of a last stand. Like the at the military camp behind the big Airfield up NW. You can almost feel that here, was a huge battle and shootout happening, before everybody died.. Burned cars, blood, downed choppers etc.. They should add much more storyline to the game in the way of scenes like this, where you can only ponder what happened. Maybe make logbooks lootable, so you can read what happened.. that would be cool.. In fact more hidden storyline to discover would be cool. -
Confessions from a N00b!1 (share yours too)
Cydone replied to Cydone's topic in New Player Discussion
There is nothing like running out of a military or airfield building like a noob and being shot in the doorway. Apparantly its almost impossible for me to learn, to stop and check before I leave the building. -
Why not add masturbation to get your health level back up while we are at it? The devs will need to draw a line somewhere.
