the people who POS are probably the same people who KOS, also I generally assume if I'm a fresh spawn and a fresh spawn is POSing me, they must either be new or a bambi hunter without gear lol I like the idea of punching in the game, and really the ability to knock people out with fists isn't a bad thing. It really just teaches you to be cautious of anyone and everyone and it gives new spawns the means to defend themselves against people who would otherwise camp them for no reason. It's a shame people punch anyone they see, but in reality those people are just jerks and would just do the same thing with any weapon they'd get. I've punched people in the head before who were threatening me, and I've been punched in the head threatening people (not bambi's of course... unless I really want them to eat my banana). I still like it just the way it is.

This seems like a pretty ignorant statement first of all lol just because you didn't play arma or what have you, you immediately are ignorant to how a different game works? I've never played arma, oh and I've never played the dayz mod. However I've taken down plenty of armed/geared people who almost always shoot first and almost always have the advantage because of that. I'm not necessarily associated with this guy and I don't think there was any hacks involved from what he's shown so far, just desync and lag. They probably made a mistake in their movements, and it's possible they were bambi hunting, who knows and who cares. At least he's not posting a video boasting his bambi kills or how he can snipe fresh spawns from 800 meters away.

Against zombies I prefer the .45 every time. Against players in a building I prefer the magnum since it seems to do more devastating damage. However outside against players, I would prefer the .45 since it's way more accurate at a distance. Edit: I also tend to think of it this way: The magnum also sends a warning of "loud gun here, come in and you're dead too," though it can also say "I only have 6 shots, come in and get me while I'm slowly reloading."

Got to love the cheaters in DayZ lol My group was harassed by hackers or whatever not once but twice yesterday. First a buddy of mine and myself were in the top floor of a 3 story building while my brother was on the 2nd floor. Two guys teleported into the 3rd floor room firing (literally were firing as they appeared), they instantly got my friend who was laying down so as not to get sniped from outside, I managed to take one of them down as I got killed. My brother came up to do battle with the 2nd guy but he teleported outside and started lighting up the windows (the entire time this guy was smack-talking so we knew it was the same guy) so my brother just logged lol The second time, we were regrouping in the same building on a different server since my brother had logged out there, I was the last one to arrive so I was looting stuff that they had left on the ground on the 3rd floor (brother on 2nd floor, friend on 3rd with me). Then two players approach the building (outside) and start describing what we are wearing and saying they know we're in there and whatnot (we aren't by windows so go figure how they knew). The main guy that was talking sounded like he was about 10 years old and kept going on and on about how scared he was to come up but he knew there was people in the building. Next thing we know, we're all teleported outside of the building. My brother and friend are on the roof of another building with these two guys pointing guns at them from inside the building and I'm in a forest way up by the north east airfield nowhere near where we were. The hackers that teleported us were too slow to fire though and both of my comrades managed to logout right as they realized where they were and started hearing gunshots from inside the building, neither were even hit lol I don't mind if trolls or whatever have the balls to camp our location, smacktalk, or try to overwhelm us with numbers or firepower. However, it's pretty lame if you have to resort to cheats to kill someone and fail even at that.

Putting backpacks in hand - Looting in "safety"
Maia (DayZ) replied to stolenbanjos's topic in General Discussion
Would love to see this idea, or even the ability to throw stuff from corpses directly on the ground so it doesn't disappear so i can loot after I've cleared the area. -

Man, these people. Nobody understands a Hollywood actor when they see one. Luckily Morgan Freeman is God so he will just keep coming back, except on Sundays. -

Suggestion - disable VOIP during gameplay
Maia (DayZ) replied to conan the librarian's topic in Suggestions
In response to the OP, I can see why you would want things to be realistic especially with the idea of walkie talkies out there. I like the idea, but I also feel it would not work. Period. Even if the game somehow had enough access and power to prevent 3rd party voice programs from working while in game, people could just use phones, ipads, other computers, or whatever to talk to their comrades if they really wanted to. You'd still be jumped and KOS by people who want to organize to do so (they would find a way whether with one of those devices, a hack, or some sort of other bypass), all you're doing is making it more difficult for the general masses to organize with their friends. Again though, it's a cool idea and I wish that something like this was possible, but I think this idea probably belongs in that thread about ideas that won't make it to dayz. -
The people who punch on sight or axe on sight are typically what I assume are new spawn campers or KOS-type people (aka assholes) just without gear lol However, I'm kind of surprised they chased you if they weren't those types of people, if you wanted to kill them you would have killed them instantly. I remember going around fully geared near the coast hunting fresh spawn hunters, I came across a guy with nothing but a pipe wrench and offered him water, can opener, and beans but he responded with nothing but drawing his wrench and chasing at me. That's why I never gear up anymore, it's not worth it for what I do lol

You are amazing, I hope to come across you in my journeys. Perhaps with my fists and your axe we can bring some salvation to this once lost land. -
Things you think will never make it into Dazy
Maia (DayZ) replied to Sooden's topic in General Discussion
The loss of kos and bringing of world peace. Zombie cure. but seriously, I'd love to see people turn into zombies after they die, and then roam around the area for people to kill and loot the zombie corpse for what you had. I just feel like it would be too much effort to put into the game. -
Firefighter's axe in a backpack, but not an M4?
Maia (DayZ) replied to subliminal_city's topic in General Discussion
This is typically what I do. I carry very little, no camo, no backpack, just a pistol and a little food/water. I greet people and kill hostile folks with the pistol, even people with m4's who think they're badass for trying to rob/kos someone with no gear lol They could maybe make it to where if you already have a primary gun, you can store (up to 1?) another gun in your pack. They could also alternatively make it to where if you are keeping your gun in your pack, it takes like 15-20 secs to get it out and assemble it(and it has to be unloaded maybe?). Benefit being you don't have your gun out if you are indeed friendly traveling or don't want to be kos, but have it if you see someone you are concerned about (or are travelling to your sniper position above elektro). -
Firefighter's axe in a backpack, but not an M4?
Maia (DayZ) replied to subliminal_city's topic in General Discussion
I think it's pretty fair as it is now, if someone has a rifle it should be visable. I can kind of see keeping melee weapons and pistols in backpacks because they're not quite as threatening. I'm glad the system is the way it is, I can more easily see if someone has an m4 and is going to kill me if I walk up to them and wiggle/wave. -
Just have everyone re-spawn in one place, then you'll have your pile of bodies. Just move the spawn area every couple hours from city to city and boom, bodies all over the place from real people getting slaughtered. In reality though, I would like to see more reminiscence of the apocalyptic destruction. It'll come eventually.

Item Conditions: Which Actually Matter?
Maia (DayZ) replied to Tabris07's topic in General Discussion
Last I've checked, at least with the pistol, you can use ruined magazines to use the weapon unless the gun is ruined. I don't know about the m4. You can also put on ruined clothes/backpacks, I've found ruined pants and put them on (did so last night). Ruined ammo doesn't matter either, especially with the magnum and mosin. You can load the ammo and eject it and it'll be pristine. Some items even regain condition randomly, I've had two press vests that have gone from ruined and bandly damaged to pristine randomly. The condition system is clearly buggy and incomplete, so really guns and scopes are the only things I've come across that matter (guns so long as they aren't broken and scopes below worn are cracked or shattered except the long range scope) -
What's worse? Being KoS'd or held up
Maia (DayZ) replied to Mays (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
This plays a big part in the game right now. Nobody sticks around to be held up these days. If you do, you're either bored, don't know game mechanics, or have backup on the way/some alternative plan. Thus I'd rather be held up, if I see you have a big group of people or try to handcuff me or do anything fishy, I'll probably log out to save myself the time. If you have a small group and seem legit, I'll let you have my crappy items (I never gear up anymore) or I'll call for backup to have you killed in your false sense of security if friends are online/nearby. -
Curious about peoples 'Rules of Engagement'
Maia (DayZ) replied to UNDERWORLD's topic in General Discussion
If you're fully geared in a big city, military base, or spawnable area. I'll KOS most likely. If you aren't fully geared (don't have m4/mosin) in anywhere except maybe a military base (I understand paranoia in a base, you cant always tell what they have). I'll probably leave you alone, might even greet or help. If you are fully geared in a random small town like up north or something, I'll likely avoid you unless you're a threat or seem threatening or I desperately need supplies (for now I'd rather kill first and loot second because of combat loggers) Basically, I fall prey to my own rules. I usually hunt people who camp newspawns, so I see myself as a viable target (even though I'm usually nonmilitary geared I am still armed). If another bandit hunter sees me they could easily misunderstand my intentions and kill me, but likewise I could easily kill them. That's just how the game works. There are far more bandits than hunters though in my experience, so I've got a pretty clear conscience. -
From my experiences of being stuck as I've stated in another thread, I've only managed to get unstuck by using the stepping/jumping feature repeatedly and by grabbing onto ladders of buildings from the inside. If this doesn't work you'll have to die unfortunately, you can try drinking any cleaning alcohol or rotten foods you might have. You could also take all the medicine you have too if you have any.

Do you dare to give a random a loaded gun?
Maia (DayZ) replied to skoms's topic in General Discussion
Pretty cool story. I tend to run up and around the coast looking for bandits to assassinate. In my travels if I come across a new spawn I typically give them something (almost always the axe or weapon off my back). I tend to only ever keep a pistol on me and I need that to kill bandits so I haven't tried that one yet. I have had to turn around and kill people I give stuff to though. I gave an axe to a guy once who was friendly, but when we jogged to the nearest town (was showing him the way) he immediately tried to (and succeeded at) killing a fresh spawn. I had to take him down, I had created a monster. -
CaseCeption - now whats going on here? o.O
Maia (DayZ) replied to robophant's topic in General Discussion
In regards to case-ception. I have tested this and personally after a while running around with a case in a case (or case in case in case in case in case etc) it causes me massive and I mean Massive desync to where I can't even play anymore. I've tested this several times on several servers and every time when i drop the cases, I resync and am lagless. I also tested this with pant-ception (pants in pants in pants etc) and had the same desync issue. Even just picking up a pair of pants in my pants would ALWAYS raise my desync by at least 10, immediately it would drop to 0 upon dropping and this wouldn't happen with "regular" items I would pick up (such as sodas, weapons, food). On another note, and this May be convenience because I haven't tested this, I have had my character reset on me probably a dozen times since I've started playing. About a 30-40% of those resets have been right after getting a few cases in my inventory. Might vary from person to person I'm sure, just thought I'd share. -
Between the gate and a wall? Changing servers could fix that. If its literally between two (or in one) stationary object(s) then you could try "stepping over" (pressing v) a bunch in different directions to see if that will wiggle you free (sometimes you have to move the mouse around when trying this). I've gotten unstuck from inside buildings and rocks doing this.

What if there are two doors in a small space? Do you open both, neither, or do you have to fiddle with it a bunch to get the door open you want to open? I have no problem with the current point and click interface, I look forward to doors making noise when you open them though (if this is ever done)

The stab vest prevents melee damage until ruined like anything. Each zombie hit for example will lower its condition by 1 level (pristine->worn). It becomes useless fast if you aren't careful. I haven't tested the press vest yet but I'm sure it works similarly as stated above (taking less hits, in most cases 1)

Bringing Bandits to Justice while they kill new-spawns on the coast.
