I've seen some people come up with heightmaps with elevation lines for Chernarus+ so there has to be a way to do this. Great idea by the way!

You're playing with a low shadow setting. You'd have to make the setting a higher quality.

I played the game monday morning on january 6 and found out that my previous character was apparently wiped while I was offline for the weekend... Was there supposed to be a character wipe that nobody is talking about? Also right now I was on a server with no other players and rechecked every few seconds as I was in an empty and zombie ridden NWAF. I got up the firehouse still with no one but me on the server and a second later I'm dead. No sound, no zombie, no player. Do any other people have these weird deaths? Are BattleEye and VAC not working properly?

Well, first you should know where you are ingame. Start by finding a road and follow it to a town, then check it against a map like the one at dayzdb (do a google search). It's always best if you can find a well to drink from as you start off thirsty. You'll want to get inland and avoid the coast and kill on sight players that farm on new spawns. If you are near Mogilevka, I could help you a bit, I'm on a new character since my old one was mysteriously wiped without dying. It's alpha! ^^
