  1. Sounds like a very cool idea, but I would wonder about the longevity without an antagonist capable of posing a threat, which the zeds wouldn't against an organised group of that many players. Private hive also seems the way to go to keep things orderly. Why not go for two small towns, within close-ish proximity of each other, 20 peeps in each? And then add in real permadeath. As in if you die, you lose your spot in the community/on the server forever - or a set time - and then the next person on the list joins up. I think the very final nature of death would stop it from becoming simply a team deathmatch between towns, and having a POTENTIAL threat at all times would probably keep things fresh, while still keeping to the spirit of your idea of restarting society.

Safe haven ain't safe no more

I was only speaking about c.polana the other day, about how it's a fantastic town for supplies. I think I've been in there a handful of times and there were no zeds, but most of the time there will be 1 or 2 to take care of, at least lately. Seriously though, this town is very underrated in terms of what you can pick up there. If you're a fresh spawn when you enter, odds are you'll be good to go by the time you're leaving, unless the place has been picked clean, which is almost never the case, even on longer restart servers with 40/40

    DayZ The Dice Game

I tried 5-2 earlier with a guy who started taking pot shots at me. After the commotion died down and he saw I was an unarmed threat he came over, at which point I started telling him I had books that contained spells hidden in the code by rocket to repel zombies and I'd trade them for beans and bananas, but ONLY beans and bananas. After about 30 seconds of "What?..." And staring at me with a gormless demeanour, he just went about his business. Didn't even bother killing me in the end. It was pretty funny as he was wildly confused. Another guy, friendly and waving etc, blew my head off instantly at the mention of having books to trade. I'm assuming he thought I was trying to troll him into glitching himself by carrying books, how ever that happens..

    That Hoe is crazy!

I liked in the ryu one how that one kid at the front in the white t-shirt is just standing there :D I suppose if you have your eyes closed you can't follow everyone else's lead.... wait, actually...

    Crossbow as a primary

As soon as retrievable bolts are implemented, they fix the slightly funky aim, and make ammunition more plentiful in whichever way, it'll be a great choice. At the moment though, the only reason whatsoever to use it is personal preference it seems or quietly clearing a couple of straggler zombies that are in your way - though on a cost to benefit ratio given how few bolts are around, this seems wasteful. Oh and if you run into another player sporting a rifle and you see each other at the same time, you might as well just put up your hands and pray for mercy, because getting into a fight is most likely goin to end poorly for the bow wielder :D

Lol. Tiger upper-cutting zeds onto rooftops like a boss :D

    Server bullshit

Wow, that's just shocking..I'm starting to get a little fed up of all the glitches that come when people start cranking the restarts to an almost hourly basis. To be honest, it would probably be better if those server admins could just make people spawn with full mil-spec and a stock of supplies, and make it 3 choices for characters "Regular/Hardcore/fully loaded". I mean it only takes about 30 minutes to get fully geared - and that's if you have to do some running - on those servers anyway, and I imagine it would cut down heavily on server instability. And to those who would respond to that with "No, that would ruin one of the main parts of the game!", it doesn't matter as hourly restart servers do that anyway.

Do you want pooping in this game?

Well, I suppose technically there really is no connection between those two specific features, but I thought it would illustrate my thinking on the realism aspect of things generally speaking, and true enough on the damage and health system. Its just that when you have one aspect of the game thats so realistic - like the need to defecate which you won't see in practically any other game - and others that are far less realistic like the ability to morph out broken limbs on demand, I just think it muddles the overall realism of the entire game. But hey, thats just me.

    Morailty in gaming poll

I try to stay pretty neutral and friendly most of the time. Though I'll admit, sometimes I'll just go ted bundy style if the mood strikes :P

Do you want pooping in this game?

It doesn't, but I would like to think that there will be some form of consistency if you're going to crank the realism up to that sort of level. I just don't think it would feel right if you have to take into account taking a dump and getting a cold in bad weather, but when you get shot with a long barrel gun a splint or an injection and you're right as rain. Realistically, if you hit a joint with with a bullet from anything other than the .22's, the socket would be ruined and you wouldn't be using it again. Anyway, this is just imho EDIT: That escalated quickly lol

Do you want pooping in this game?

Well, if they're going for realism of that scale, when I blow someones knee out with a magnum, that kneecap better be gone forever.
  13. This happened to me this evening, same warning text etc. After logging into a diff server, I was a fresh spawn again. At that point I decided to leave playing for a couple hours, then later on when I rejoined a new server, I had all my gear back - despite the title screen showing a fresh toon
  14. Ah the can opener, the only item I'll never let out of my inventory even for a moment :)

DayZ lagging with good computer? HELP!

I actually had something similar happen on one of my boxes with a slightly older ATI card in it. For some reason when I cranked all the gfx settings down to minimum, checked for a stable framerate, and then turned them all up to max again, it disappeared. I doubt it will help, but worth a shot. My first port of call with a situation like that is to one by one crank all the settings to min/max and check the diff. I usually hit on something thats causing it that way, unless its an exterior factor - scheduled programs running in the background eating resources etc.. I know the above is not much help, but thought I'd mention it as I had a very similar problem with a similar box

Wow, they removed trees from chernarus.

Yeah tbh, its not really going to bother me any, and as you say it looks pretty decent anyway. I guess its just that from working with cryengine for a spell, I've gotten used to huge texture sizes on the far out LOD, and highly detailed patches on the close ups, which give a great seamless and high quality feel. I think if they could optimize the foliage, and increase its density a fair bit - without melting GPU's - it would go a long way toward improving the overall look, as you'll have a lot of the texture/s that dont look great at short range being masked far more than they are now
  18. tinroofer

Weather Sync, & Using it's Advantages

I think they would need to make the noise of the storm much "sharper" or "closer" sounding to be able to mask the sound of a shot from a long gun, but its a cool idea certainly :)
  19. tinroofer

Wow, they removed trees from chernarus.

Pity they couldn't do more with the horrendous ground texture, add some LOD or whatever.... Though I'm sure this is a limitation of the engine and not lazy texturing work :)

    Your most frustrating moments.

"I'll just carefully walk down these 4 steps as I exit this storage building..." YOU ARE DEAD :) Seriously, stairs can be rough lol
  21. tinroofer

Would this be possible for DayZ ?

You MIGHT get rigidbodies and the stuff along those lines at some stage WAY into the future, but soft body physics like in the vid? I highly doubt it, not without rebuilding the engine from scratch I would think

    Hunting ~end of may

Hmmm, I would imagine that the limit for these animals per server will be somewhat low - relatively speaking, and if so I would hope that the spawns are spread out across huge areas of the map, and that they don't spawn in herds. My worry would be a very small pathing area, creating large almost static groups of animals, which snipers would then swiftly turn into cemeteries as players steamed into the hot zones to hunt and got their heads blown off. This would be even further compounded if there were fixed points for groups to spawn at server restart. Anyway, very excited to see how things go, and hope the paranoia while hunting won't be too much :D

    How to handle close encounters?

One on one close encounters aren't too bad, even more so when you see them first or see each other at the same time. You can usually take a moment to weigh your options given the surroundings, the other players disposition etc. Of course when two armed players round a corner in a town and end up almost on top of each other, it rarely ends well. Its infinitely tougher though to judge encounters when there's a couple of friends in the area working together and they come upon you lone wolfing it - which I am most of the time. I'll admit that on more than a few occasions I've just decided not to take the chance and just wait until they're close together and cut them down. Though at the same time I've been on the receiving end of a bullet to the skull many times where after teaming up with some friendly folks they've randomly decided I'm no longer welcome and they'd like my gear before I left lol. It's usually the person who initiates - or gets the drop on more so - the interaction that dictates how things go. So if you play a more careful game, you'll end up being the initiator more often and can control somewhat how things play out. Though if you see handcuffs coming out when someone has you at gunpoint, you're probably going to want to pull your weapon and take your chances no matter how dire the situation lol

This is why I HATE DayZ.

Yeah, I was wondering that too...EDIT: Nvm, OP cleared it up
