Question about PBO's
PITN (DayZ) replied to dannyboy92 (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
/* Enables signature verification for addons This will prevent pbo hacks by only allowing pbo's that pass server's public key checks 0 = no verification 1 = for v1 signatures 2 = v2 signatures only */ verifySignatures=2; Make sure you have it set to 2 in the server.cfg file. -

PITN (DayZ) replied to rmc_blackcat's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
1.61 rc3 will pork ur install. Try this: copy your arma install folders and user folder. just rename them when your switching back and forth between the 1.61 and 1.60. you could even write a batch file to do this quickly. sry about post as im on my phone. -

A Radical PVP Game Change? Take Sniper Rifles Out.
PITN (DayZ) replied to justwrath's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The Real Virtuality 3 Engine (ArmA 2) does simulate wind but this has no effect on the projectile unless you are using a mod like ACE. I have heard that there may be a slight effect in single player but I have not tested this rumor. Now get back under your bridge and don't come back until you can actually contribute something factual and in an intelligent manner. -
A Radical PVP Game Change? Take Sniper Rifles Out.
PITN (DayZ) replied to justwrath's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I think the OP has a point. At the moment the only factors a sniper has to consider is breath control and bullet drop. Without the other factors such as availability of specialized rounds, wind direction, temperature, humidity and angle/elevation it is extremely easy to kill someone at 1.5km. Now I wouldn't want to remove long range weapons entirely but I would change the current loot tables to bring engagement distances down into the lower hundred meter ranges. Remove all anti-material rifles, reduce ammo spawns related to sniper rifles, and remove anything that should use batteries. Alternatively, instead of removing the device that uses electricity, implement the generator idea Rocket has mentioned before. You could then recharge your batteries to use that rangefinder or night vision device. Another idea would be a personal solar cell requiring the player to spend personal time exposed in the daylight to charge his fancy gadget. No hiding in the forest to charge your crap. As to the rarity of the M107 or AS50 they are really not that rare. The DMR and CZ550 weapons systems seem to be the things of legend at the moment but their ammo is plentiful. I have personally come across four anti-material rifles within 30 minutes on one occasion. Two at a crashed helo two and two more in the trunk of a red Skoda parked in the woods 2km away. And on certain days (not always) I seem to be able to find M107 ammo in almost every deer stand. Over the last week one of our members has located a crashed helo nearly every day. In some cases more than one in a play session. The moral is that I would like to see more firefights occur in engagement ranges that reflect real world statistics. I am not against a sniper or a marksman. But the 1.5km kill is not the average post- apocalyptic skill that you would regularly see like we currently do in Day Z. -

Sounds like you need a broker. -
DE60 1530 PST June 30 2012 Lynx helo spotted inflight on a heading of NW over NW arifield. It's not good sport to have a helo with thermal imaging, rockets and a grenade launcher. I hope you can find this shitbird.

You're hasty ambush was poorly thought out and executed. You deserved your loss. Engaging with SD weapons at 300+ meters? Rapid firing your DMR? Yeah. -

Unless it has been scripted as single use you need the rocket ammo. We need someone who knows the script to chime in or you can just pull the trigger and see what happens.

no Side chat = Community Growth will be damaged
PITN (DayZ) replied to daish's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I agree with the OP's points about side chat for use in helping new players adjust to the game. However, more experianced players could just hang out on the coast for a few hours each day and help the newbies learn the ropes. Another option I was thinking about was a beginners map with SIDE CHAT (cell phone) on. Maybe a small island so that players could learn game mechanics etc. But when a player turns his weapon on another player then they would graduate to Chernarus and be prevented from playing there. I know this would be a carebear enviornment but you could also set it so that when a certain task is completed you graduate in a positive way. Maybe repairing a plane/boat and flying/cruising into a trigger area moves you into the big leagues. CHERNARUS. It would also be a nice beginning story arc. Try and find a way of the island (frying pan) to get you take you to Chernarus (fire) in a civillian AN-2 COLT or Fishing Boat but something happens and you wash up on the coast. p.s. This idea came from my mind as to why you would wash up on a foreign beach in the first place. Server Application Rejection.
PITN (DayZ) replied to deadbeat's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
The single most important factor for an Arma server is clockspeed followed by bandwidth. Arma likes to use 2 cores and will almost always max out the first core. If you want a smooth playing experiance then you need to buff those stats first. -
DE6 - Reverting to old checkpoint, impossibru?
PITN (DayZ) replied to Kolossi (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Looking at DE6 in Sixupdater suggests to me that the admins need to update and secure their server. Don't play on servers that fall behind on updates or fail to run full AC protection. -

ESC and Abort one screen back to the server lobby and hit OK. -
Fly the takistan UH1H versions in the editor. They're the same bird. The UH1Y is from ARMA 2 while the UH1H is from ARMA 2:Operation Arrowhead.

The vulnerablilties will always exist in any defense. Put up a wall and sooner or later they figure out how to get past it. So cheat and anti-cheat will always be trading tit-for-tat. Best you can do is not let it get to you. The more that you acknowledge your pain the more they feed off of you. I see good things coming to ARMA in regards to this issue due to the popularity of DayZ. I can't wait for BattlEye's next ban wave.

Script kiddies will always be causing trouble. Think of it as an act of god and unavoidable. Kind of like a car accident or a meteor falling on your head. Also, pick a different server as some of them don't run a tight ship. Checking Six-Updater I can see 41 servers that are not taking anti-cheat measures appropriately. EDIT: I see that most of those 41 are not legitimate servers but clones or personal edits. Be careful what you join. Especially those that say no-cheats.

DayZ works on your GUID or CD-KEY. So seperate game copies with their own unique CD-KEY will allow you to have seperate DayZ characters.
-
Have you looked at the Steam Sales Chart? ARMA:CO is #1 and ARMA:AO is in the top ten. New game keys mean a new round of stupidity. It's only money, right? Besides, they're only script kiddies copying someone elses work. A true hacker has better things to do than spawn crates of ammo or make cows fly.

Client-Side Modifications
PITN (DayZ) replied to FunkyHermitCrab (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Having the mod incorperated into DayZ with a DayZ signature would be the prefered method. However, getting mod developers to agree on how each others work will be used, implemented and compensated for (credit for the work) always seems to bring forth posturing and chest thumping. This hasn't prevented private clans, in the past, to incorperate several mods into ONE key. But they usually keep that stuff behind closed doors anyway. It's just not conducive to public play to go down that route.
