Bitching about Day's current state is like living in a house that is still being built and complaining to the construction company that you get wet when it rains. A complex video game takes A LOT of time to complete.

Sorry, didn't mean to interrupt.

[Official] Stable Hardcore Servers.. why so few?
fnal replied to Irish.'s topic in General Discussion
Supply and demand, my friend. Each play style has its advantages and disadvantages but the server hoster is most likely going to choose the more popular style to get more players. Until the game progresses and introduces more to the playing field in terms of gameplay or improvement, I can't see the hardcore figures growing, -
Give them time, my man. They have a lot on their to-do-list and I'm sure 100+ man servers are on there somewhere. It's hard to wait and suppress anger and frustration with a game in alpha but that's all you can do until updates slowly but surely filter down the pipe.

Shouldn't zombies also bleed to death eventually?
fnal replied to sketch814's topic in General Discussion
That's a good observation, I've never thought of that. I would make a thread in the suggestions topic so your idea can get a little more visibility in the proper area. -
It's just a game.....you can't tailor everything to be realistic, Bohemia wouldn't get any sales.

Well if the only way to ensure you won't get reset is to join the same server every time, why do we have a public hive? I've just got reset as well from joining a different server. I'm always a new spawn in the same spawn location I freshly spawned in from before. Both servers had the public tag on the browser so I'm not really sure what is causing. I've read that the devs were aware of an issue with not saving to the hive but does anyone who has tried different servers without resetting know what the secret is?

It is a bug and has been fixed already and will be in the next experimental (0.46)

Is it just me or is the Frag Grenade explosion a bit big?

Has anyone ever chopped down a sizable tree with an axe? It is an incredibly intense job and will wear you out. The amount of strokes should depend upon the condition of the axe. A sharp axe requires less work than a dull one. The rate at which an axe gets ruined is pretty ridiculous but I think it's intended to prevent someone from chopping down every tree they see. So to prevent this, they should increase the required strokes 10 fold because if you really needed to chop down a tree for firewood, you are going to do it, but if you are trolling, you'd get tired real quick.

Dropped a morphine on the ground so my buddy could inject himself. It vanished >:(

Armed Helicopters Are NOT Overpowered
fnal replied to iongaming33@aim.com's topic in General Discussion
Little known fact, helicopters exist outside of the military. We don't need a Huey or some other gunship for a helicopter, why not a Bell 206 or Robinson R44? Those are common civilian helicopters. And those complaining about how the helicopter can find camps and people so easily, why do you think police use it for chases? Hello, it's because that is the benefit of the helicopter! Hide your tents better, it's not that difficult. If you want such a hardcore survival experience in DayZ, turn off your computer and go out in the wilderness. This is a game.... -

I like the idea of the unarmed helicopter but it should certainly be difficult to maintain and fly. You should have to make a decision whether you want to invest all your time into the helicopter if you feel the reward is worth the risk. Some things to balance it out: -Most helicopters have turbine engines and use Jet-A fuel, which should only be available at the 3 airports in Chernarus. Jet engines can also burn gasoline but must be overhauled in ridiculously low hours, like 100. So in the game, you could put gasoline in the chopper in a pinch and it will fly but there is an incredible risk of engine failure, most likely leading to your death :D Unless of course they use something like a Robinson R44 which is a 6-cyl. So you've got to know what fuel to use! -I'm hoping for the repair mechanic, all the required tools will need to be looted and not just have the toolbox from the mod to fix everything. So not only will you need more tools, parts will be much more scarce and only available in certain areas, such as the new industrial area in Novo. -Dean talked about enhancing the weather system so just like in real life, sometimes there is fog and low level clouds that prevent you from using the ground as a reference. So even if you wanted to use your helicopter at certain times, you pose a huge risk of crashing into a tree or building because you can't see anything. -Whatever the helicopter, it should have a small useful load. If you've got full fuel and you load it up with gear and fill all the seats with passengers, you may be outside the operating limits and crash trying to maneuver. So you must take into account weight and balance issues. Obviously, this is banking on if the engine would support these features but I think it would be great to have helicopters. -
You surfed the forums while they dragged you for 30 minutes? Impressive, they've managed to implement a new feature.

Were there drugs involved in this?

Server won't even come up :( What is the name of it?

The smaller airport is a good change. Now give us some 172s or Piper Cubs to fix! I'll provide round trip from NEAF, NWAF, and Balota for 2 cans of beans.

BIG NEWS ! submachine-gun, tents, teddy bears, and much more
fnal replied to rotteck's topic in General Discussion
Would be cool if the loot in the tent would be stored on the floor so you could peak inside and take a glance. That and being able to walk or crouch inside the tent itself without breaking your legs like the mod. -
Does this work by the first person to see you or the first person to complete the verification tasks. What if I get killed vaulting?!
-
If you understand the reasoning, why do you persist on showing your disagreement? It is planned to get fixed but it is currently not a priority. Now I would agree with you if Rocket said he had no intentions of rewriting the sound engine but come on man, Rome wasn't built overnight! B)
-
It sounds like you are making an assumption on the source of the bug and its ease of fixing.. The developers have their hands full with other more important tasks. The random sounds are not game-breaking, they just make you check your 6 every now and then. Weyland Yutani said it best above. It would be a waste of time, money, and resources to fix a problem with a sound engine that is scheduled to be totally rewritten later on. Perhaps another analogy to relate the issue. Say you had an old car that you wanted to replace the transmission because it is at the end of it's life. All of a sudden, the car won't go in 3rd gear anymore. Would it make sense to replace 3rd gear or just buy a new transmission?

I'll play. Logo is pretty sweet.

Hive servers should operate under more strict parameters.
fnal replied to MLG420blazeit's topic in General Discussion
No, the servers can do anything they want, you just feel it is necessary to force every one else to play how you want. -
Few more bugs I've encountered: When carrying two weapons, the weapon on your back raises up when your character runs. http://feedback.dayzgame.com/view.php?id=12897 And when a fresh spawn, the character's body will glitch through the t-shirt when running. http://feedback.dayzgame.com/view.php?id=12899

The weapon sway is definitely unrealistic and a poor way of adding the "difficulty" factor to shooting long ranges. Even without a bipod while prone and in a good shooting position, your weapon barely sways. What I find aggravating is that a proper shooting stance can eliminate your weapon swaying in real life but in the game, you have no control over it.
