Our group and server-owner group were the only 7 people on server. Our group of 3 kills their group of 4. We get kicked from server. They kept kicking on reconnect. -
This is quite good advice from a new player to new players. Things start to change a bit when you've been in the game for a while tho. If I die and I don't have frendlies moving my gear into a tent/vehicle, this is my course of action (doesn't matter how many people are on the server); Respawn untill I get a spawn near Cherno, preferably east side of it. Pick up a hatchet on the way into town from one of the industrial buildings. Hatchet is silent, I prefer finding a hatchet over a handgun, sorta. Often, if I pull aggro I will be moving into a building, switching from whatever weapon I have to the hatchet to take out the zombie, then switch back, don't want to announce to people we are here. We are hunting, don't want to be hunted. Move to military/medical tents and try to find a rifle or handgun. Stock up on medical supplies. 1 painkiller and 1 morphine in inventory and atleast one of each in backpack, atleast 4 bandages. My next objective is a backpack. There are several café buildings around the International Hotel, I should be able to find atleast a Czech Backpack or an Alicepack aswell as 1911 with however much ammo I want to carry. Once done with the Cafés and the Hotel I have 5 more locations to hit. Town hall, firestation, church, supermarket and appartments. In what order I hit them depends on zedmovements or playermovements. I won't leave Cherno untill I have: 1x Alicepack (sometimes settle for Czech), 2 Canteens, food, medical supplies, good primary weapon (Assaultrifle, no crappy shottys or the like), m1911 with 6 mags, map, compass. I preferably get alot more survival gear (matches, knife and the like). While I feel confident in my abilities to defend myself, if I hear gunfire there are three options; 1. I'm still only wielding a hatchet, or a makarov with only 1 or 2 mags. I continue on my route, trying to stay away. 2. Fire is far off on other side of Cherno, I continue with my loot-path, but keep my eyes in the general direction, trying to keep track on how they move (by hearing them shoot) and eventually move on to 3. 3. The gunfire is withing a few blocks and I'm armed with pretty much anything other than a hatchet (and sometimes even if only armed with hatchet), I find the player and kill them. CODing you might call it, I say survival. The longer I stay in Cherno, the more likely I am to die (and I often do on theese runs). I have a goal and I won't leave untill I fill it. Other players want the same things I want, therefore there's a high chance they are carrying it. If I can end my loot-path early by killing someone and looting everything I need of his body, that's good. But this is not "noob advice". You need to be competent in moving without attracting zombies. You need to not stop at every lootpile. Learn how things look, you'll soon die if you spend alot of time with your nose to the ground looking at the gearmenu. And most importantly, you need to be able to outmanuver other players to drop them before they drop you. My advice to new players is gtfo the coast, head inland and loot barns.

As mentioned, they are used for marking things for people wearing NVG's. An entire team carrying them together with NVG's would help mark frendlies while throwing one onto enemy positions would act much like a smoke to mark aerial strafing at night. As far as I know, they are not legitimatly in DayZ.

Ten Reasons why Kill on Sight is 'Realistic'
Asmo (DayZ) replied to Rogo Ignoscant's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The only reason I need for killing on sight (appart from members of my group) is that fighting other players is fun and this is a game. Is it realistic? Hell if I know, and hell if any of you pretend to know how human society would react to an apocalypse. It's never happened and no matter how many post-apocalyptic books you've read, that's only writers guessing. The first day, maybe two, of DayZ I actually had fun and feared the zombies, tried to be friendly and got mad at people shooting on sight. Then I realized that this game would be very boring without PvP. And without the shoot on sight mentality, I could mess up and walk right into the sights of a squad of players and still live, I don't deserve that. This is a game. Games need to be challanging to be fun. The only challange in this game is the fact that it's a shoot on sight mentality. If you want more focus on the social aspects of what would happen. Here's a tip, don't look for it in a videogame. Get some likeminded friends, go pick up a good pen and paper rpg, and enjoy. -
thats my dead friend and a corpse we looted That would be the wrong stairs. oh yeah.. well he wall hacked into there' date=' i shut the door myself, theres no way he got in [/quote'] Ok, so first you claim he hacked and shot you through a wall. We point out he is standing right infront of you. You then decide he must have hacked to get inside because you closed the door? He's obviously good enough to kill two of you, but not good enough to open a door? Actually, you know what? Good one, I thought you were serious at first. +1 successfull trolling.

There's actually a guy right there on the stairs infront of you. Coming up from the floor below. You clearly see the guy in the video... and his muzzle flashes.

Hacking - Thoughts and Questions about how it might be prevented
Asmo (DayZ) posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Allright, so I've been killed by hackers and from within the debug-forrest a whole bunch of times. Just now, me and 7 other guys posted all around the NW Airfield, died all at the same time from a huge explosion, killing people at distances of atleast 600 meters. I don't know much about how Arma2 and DayZ works, but as far as I know it's script-based. So a couple of questions regarding this; If the game is scriptbased, and hackers hack by running scrips that aren't supposed to be run. Wouldn't it be possible to make DayZ servers not accept scripts that aren't supposed to be run in DayZ? If that is not possible, is it because of DayZ or Arma2 or the engine itself? I have no idea how the scripting language work in Arma2, but I can't imagine that it should (assuming there's engine support) be to hard to make a line like say addWeapon weaponName only accept weaponName if it's actually supposed to be in DayZ. I understand it would probably result in more work for the developers, as they would basicly have to maintain a list of every accepted scriptline in DayZ. (might be automated). It would probably also increase server load as every scriptline would have to be checked against allowed scriptlines before running. Pretty much everything below this line is a rant and can be safely skipped. ___________________________________________________________ Theese are all just thoughts I have. I am getting sick and tired from getting killed by hacks. I don't care about my gear, I don't care if I get oneshot in the head from a sniper as I cross a field. But someone dropping a JDAM, or whatever that was, on my head is a bit irritating. I know this is an Alpha (or it's called Alpha even tho Alpha is internal testing builds, Beta is public testing builds, thus this should be called Beta), but that doesn't matter. Some people beeing able to do stuff like this is a huge problem. And Alpha-state is the state in which to iron that out. Maybe it's not beeing prioratised because Rocket knows it will no longer be an issue if game is ported to Arma3 or even crated as stand alone. Since either Arma3 port or stand alone will happen before or at the same time as release. I just hope it gets handled soon enough, because alot of the the players (testers) will get tired enough of it to quit. I have no problem with anything that gets patched in or out of the game. Pitch black nights, superzombies, starting items, it's all part of building the game. Hacking and Debug-forrest abusing is my only greviance. I'd love to keep testing. Our homeserver was testing a recent relase and server admin said they wanted us to test framerates in bigger towns. I was in Stary atm, with like 5 players, all friendlies on the server. I could have farmed the military tents or ran to NW Airfield. Instead I sprinted laps around Stary fiering my weapon to spawn and aggro as many Zeds as I could to check framerate (which stayed nice and high btw, well done on the optimizations). Zombies eventually took me out and I had to start all over from scratch. I don't mind, I'm thankfull for beeing able to help advancing this game. But if I keep getting bombs dropped on my head, I'm probably gonna quit. Some of you might say "go ahead and leave, 1 out of 300.000 players is nothing". But I bet you there's a whole bunch of me's out there thinking the same thing, and the me's are the ones you want to keep around, not the hackers. TL;DR Hacking bad, can haz stop plx? + rant. -
I can't give you a quote, since I can't be assed to find it. But I'm pretty sure skins aren't supposed to change how well zeds see you in any way, it's purely there to help sneak vs players. Seeing as you said you followed him exactly, take into consideration that the zombies aren't stationary. They turn (they see straight ahead now), they move and whatnot. I'm pretty sure that the ghillie does not make you easier to detect by zombies and I have not noticed anything like that myself. Just saying.
-
Or you could, as JayMeHD said, risk it. I've had a few ghillie-suits and alot of camo clothing and never spawned in the ocean. I read one theory that when you put on a new skin, your location in the world is lost and set to a place that happens to be in the ocean. And that if your character gets saved before you leave, you won't spawn in ocean. As I have never actually experienced the bug myself so I don't know if this is the case (or possibly so). But I've always made sure to not kill my game right after I've switched skins and never had any problem with it.

Geared up with epic kit... afraid to play now!
Asmo (DayZ) replied to Encrypted (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Just log on and have fun with the gear while you have it. You will lose it sooner or later (sooner if you enjoy it, later if you just don't play). When I'm kitted out I get a bit afraid of playing aswell. But I'm trying to learn that the fun part of this game is the adventure of getting the items and using them, not having them. It's a permadeath game, don't get attached. The FN FAL is a great weapon, but it's useless if you don't connect, or sitting in a tent hidden away. Just go in, do whatever you want to do, raiding NW Airfield barracks, killing others who try, whatever your preferances might be. If your friends aren't around you run a high risk of dying, even with the best kit. But then you start over. There's no endgame, there's only a choice to enjoy it while it lasts, or hide in a forrest. I recently died with a well-kitted guy. I was bummed and took a few hours break. Spawned in Balota, went to the airfield and got all giddy when I found a handgun and an AK and started making my way north. -
I personally like the idea of cannibalism. However, in most societies, cannibalism is considered on of, if not the most taboo of actions. Adding cannibalism to DayZ the Alpha-version mod for Arma2 wouldn't be a problem, but Rocket aims higher, as far as I know. A stand-alone game where players run around killing and eating eachother would not only be banned in Australia, (I think a shoelacetieing simulator would get banned for exessive laces there), but probably in quite a few other countries aswell. I don't see a point in even testing something out if you never expect it to carry over from Alpha. I'd rather never see it, than see it for a little while with no hope of carrying over to the final product. It would probably not be banned where I live, so I personally wouldn't mind. Developing games needs to generate revenue tho.
