They do work with a limited range. They do need a 9v battery to work as well. A couple weeks back someone set up in Cherno and started broadcasting tunes on "RadioFreeCherno" As long as you had the radio tuned correctly and in range of the broadcaster, you could hear the music. We could also communicate in game via chat on the walkie-talkie channel. Here's the reddit thread on it: http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/1z72ge/radiofreecherno_878_broadcast_2_song_request_and/. The post has instruction on how to use the radio too. It lasted several hours I think before the station was taken off the air by bandits. It's a neat little feature, but with teamspeak, skype, etc. it really is more of a novelty than a good, reliable means to communicate with a squad.

[HACKING] We need to know on which server we are playing
hotrodskater replied to paradogz's topic in General Discussion
So, besides looking at the user config file, the other way I've found to determine the server I'm playing on atm, is to click to my Profile page on Steam, and click the green "Join Game" button. The PopUp window has the server IP and Port. This works even if you're dead. You can then look this up later in the Remote tab in the game lobby. Of course this isn't much help if you already logged out of the server, but if you make a it a habit to do it when you first login to a server, you'll always have that info handy if you actually need it. Hope this helps. -
New Update Rolling out on experimental 0.36.115535
hotrodskater replied to Rancor's topic in General Discussion
Ask and ye shall receive. There are female audio sounds on the experimental servers now. Panting, breathing, pain sounds, groaning, etc. -
How many Women play this game and what do you think about it?
hotrodskater replied to PsyStormZ's topic in General Discussion
I've seen probably a few dozen of female players of all ages and nationalities who have streamed their DayZ play on Twitch on regular or irregular basis since release. I would bet that the percentage of female players is much higher than most people think. I also think that the male players who are treating female players badly would do the same thing regardless of the game context. -
New hope! They have identified the FPS issue and solution is being tested on experimental build.

Gave you my beans just for a hipster reply to a snarky post from a poster who can't even admit he was wrong in the first place. -
Any Idea on when the next patch is??
hotrodskater replied to boudreaux's topic in General Discussion
They just posted new patch notes for the next one. Perhaps it'll go GA Monday or Tuesday based on response on experimental servers. http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/165709-pending-changelog-experimental-branch-031114343/ -
Something's Changed on the Experimental Servers...
hotrodskater posted a topic in General Discussion
I'm not sure if there's a new build or not as the version number has not been changed on the experimental servers, but every time you log in, it's as a new spawn. And respawning after a death seems to work with some consistency now. Course, that's after only five deaths so take that for what it's worth, but far better than previously imo. There's dead bodies all over the place, It's tragic. If you check it out, don't spend too much time. No loot is respawning and the servers don't seem to be on a regular restart schedule. -

hotrodskater replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion

If you don't laugh at this, you are a bitter soul

Only thing that makes that better is a yellow backpack, but haven't seen that in game yet. Very nice. -
Just watched one vid. OMG, that's awesome fun that that interaction was thought of and is in place for the alpha. /golfclap

I wondered if that was possible. Did you live through the result?

To quote the Steam DayZ page: WARNING: THIS GAME IS EARLY ACCESS ALPHA. PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE IT UNLESS YOU WANT TO ACTIVELY SUPPORT DEVELOPMENT OF THE GAME AND ARE PREPARED TO HANDLE WITH SERIOUS ISSUES AND POSSIBLE INTERRUPTIONS OF GAME FUNCTIONING. To quote Rocket himself off of these very forums: Do not buy the game yet! The release of our Alpha is about getting those who want to be involved from the ground up, up and into the process. What we do encourage you to do, is to read reviews, watch livestreams and lets play videos, and talk to your friends. The alpha is going out into large scale testing for the first time, this means many things (mostly bad) will happen such as nasty bugs, connection issues, lost loot, etc... Our aim right now is to present the bare-bone architecture and check that works, getting some feedback on the direction in the process. Said forum posts lists major bugs/issues already known with the game, including your listed problems with loot spawns and hacking. While I applaud the well written and thoughtful presentation of your post, it appears that you're yet another person who didn't understand what you were buying and in what condition the product was in even though it was stated quite clearly by both the seller and the producer. As such, I can only shake my head and laugh at the indignant nature of your frustration. -
