We NEED some way to identify heros and bandits.

Think even Henry Kissinger would struggle to get any agreement in this topic ;) Heros want to be recognised and treated with reverence, bandits want to blend in and not be highlighted as such. But at this point, even if a system could be envisaged that allowed both requirements to be catered for I still don't think there could be an agreement. Does seem like a lot of posts suggest that killing others is part of the game shouldn't class you as a bandit, you are simply a survivor of the apocalypse! which is a fair point.

We NEED some way to identify heros and bandits.

Think that this topic is 26 pages long is testament to the fact there is no such agreement! It does seem the general argument is:Hero-type players want a way to look heroic, possibly to avoid being kos when they try to help a nervous survivorWhile bandits want to make sure that no one knows if they are a bandit or not - they don't want to be 'highlighted' as bandits. So to suit all players, the system should somehow track actions accurately to define their playstyle and offer them the opportunity to wear items, if they choose to, that reflect their playstyle. These items/symbols also need to be unlootable if they are robbed/killed as they specifically relate to that character. How hard can that be to implement!?I like the idea that if you are a 'goodie' in the game then perhaps you can find specific police outfits so you can patrol the streets looking all badass and power-mad... I also like the idea that a murdering bandit can look like a lowly survivor, beg help from the above baddass just to get close to them and gut them. Either way, you still don't know exactly what actions that character will do when you meet them no matter how they are dressed.

    Lost All my Stuff? :(

LoL. Lost my stuff but not my character twice yesterday. Logged in and my backpack was gone along with half the items in my tac vest and my gloves. Spent 2 hours getting re-kitted up but when I logged back in later on, all that stuff had gone too and more of my older items had vanished as well. Can't wait to see what tonight's installment has for me. At least it left me my can opener!! *edit* Thanks for the beans, I can eat again as the server ate my others!
  5. Yep. They'll have a big meeting and impose sanctions on the zombies until they start to behave!
  6. It is this easy access, and the already present willingness to use them that I am referring to. With all the stories we hear from 'across the pond' about random shootings it does seem like the US is just an outbreak away from immediately defending themselves from their neighbours. I appreciate it that it is those who 'snap' we hear about but I do believe that the US would soon sink back into its wild-west days the moment the apocalypse hits. Tho finally all those doomsday-preppers will be able to sit smuggly in their bunkers. Don't disagree though that even places like the UK are screwed if there was an outbreak due to lack of guns!! Best weapon I have is a 7-iron and a wicked backswing.
  7. OP: as my kindle is pretty much packed with zombie-apocalypse books I must point out to the while KoS in books and films do happen, KoS also goes hand in hand with being an ars*hole in these stories! I would like to think that there would be more humanity around than to simply turn to KoS the moment someone mutters the words 'zombie outbreak'. If there isn't, then let the zombies have the planet as humanity wouldn't deserve it! On a side note, in an apocalypse if KoS became mandatory as you seem to be speculating - my guess is that america would wipe itself out within 72 hours of it starting ;)
  8. Hmm, not quite had the same issue but all of a sudden my gear is being partially wiped. A backpack I've had for weeks - gone. Also half the items in my tac vest and my gloves of all things I have been playing on the same server for the past few weeks without any issues, never switching. I logged off last night as usual - hiding in a bush. Logged in tonight on the same server and they were just gone. What's worse is that everything I have re-found in the last 2.5 hours has been wiped again after I logged off - along with some other random items found ages ago. Geez, give a man a chance to survive - even the server is pvp'ing me!

Hot Spawning, Ghosting, Combat Logging. @@@

"Now the server i play on restarts every hour. After almost every restart I get at least 1 kill because someone Hot Spawns into NEAF. It has actually got to the point on my server that Hot Spawner's are spawning behind me on sniper hill and looking for me" Most of the servers I play on restart every 4 hours, so I must surmise that you are on a loot-whoring server. I guess people don't go to it looking to pvp, just to grab more loot. Change servers, you 'might' get a bit less CL and ghosting. After every restart, where are you 'hot spawning' into? sounds like you are hot spawning into the airfield and are annoyed others are doing the same as well. Hot Spawners are spawning and looking for you? how much do you camp the airfield that you are that well known and predictable? Think it is your gameplay that needs a bit of variation. Try a new server and leave the airfield, see what happens.

The players of DayZ Ruin the game

LoL - a stranger is just a friend you don't know yet! Had the drop on him. Could have killed them without a sound but wanted to give the game a bit more meaning (for me anyways). Just wanted to see how it would play out. Guess I got lucky, but I'd do it again.

The players of DayZ Ruin the game

Your search is over. Seen quite a few people even though I am a creature of the woodland, watched them through my scoped mosin but never so much as fired a shot at another player. This weekend, on a server with just one other player, somehow our paths crossed at NEAF. I gave him my M4, 2x60 clips plus some loose rounds because he was looking for a weapon and I already had a mosin and magnum. No one got hurt and we went on our merry way. If you want to KOS or if you believe that KOS is the only way to play this alpha then that's fine, each to their own. Personally I'll play PS2 if I want to kos, there's a lot more action to be had in that game. When it becomes harder to survive in DayZ maybe I'll change my tune... but I hope not.

Do you Think DayZ Should Port to Console?

Good god no. I'm a console gamer (ps4,ps3,xb360) but turned to the dark side (PC gaming) a year ago - coz I wanted a better Skyrim experience!? If DayZ was to make it to a console, you may as well just set the game in a walled-off Berezino and call it 'Dayz of Duty'. No matter how douchey some of the players are in this SA, on a console it would be 24/7 douchery. Seriously, don't waste the effort - without a perk system they just wouldn't understand it.

    Feeling omnipotent...

If you are a player who wants your character to have 'uncontrollable bowel movements' then there is something wrong with you. Put this game away and go seek help. Adding more immersion to the game is definitely a good idea, but lets not take the piss. It is still just a 'game' no matter how many times you spout 'anti' before it. There are plenty of things you could add to reflect 'real-life', but irl we want to play a game - see the irony?! If you want a realistic game, start with asking them to put a can-opener or kitchen knife in every single house - now that wound be realistic!

    I'm now killing on sight.

Back in the 70's, on UK TV there was a wise, sage-like cat that offered advice to us kids via his interpreter. meow, meow meowmoew, meow meow, purr... Charley says "you shouldn't go off with people you don't know" Charley prepared me for DayZ, hopefully these words of wisdom will now help you. A DayZ PSA.

The lack off loot is not right ???

Just been through Polana and Gorka and managed to scrounge up 2 cans of soda, a tin of tuna and an apple. Unless someone had been through before hand and closed every single door after them then 'food' loot is very scarce. Did find 3 bags and about 10 items of clothing though so my 'dayz: dress-up simulator' is still working fine..

    Whats wrong with server hopping?

You're missing the whole 'spirit of the game'. I would also be interested to know how many of these server-hoppers also use the argument on this forum 'Yeah, but in a real apocalypse...blah blah blah' when discussing kos or pve
  21. dejeffers

    Used to love Berezino...

You could always try the nice retirement village of Polana. It has all the modern conveniences you could want and a lovely community feel, but still within an easy commute to Berezino for those times when you just gotta shoot someone.
  22. *edit: won't quote a previous post Body removal; First, just wanted to say that I died bout an hour an half ago at Rify, logged out and back into the same server and 30+ mins later I had my stuff back - which was nice coz it was a glitch through railings that killed me. Maybe the dayz gods felt sorry for me and gave me a break. I think 10 minutes is too short though for removing character bodies. At present, when you come across a body you don't have any idea how recent it is which adds to the tension. Also, please don't paint your mosin pink. It's a lovely looking weapon and to defile it in that way is pure blasphemy...

We NEED some way to identify heros and bandits.

Isn't a Hero someone who tries to do something regardless of the possible consequences to themselves? Like getting KOS by a nervous survivor... If a bandit robs you then lets you go, are they branded the same as someone who robs you then kills you? How about if you KOS without looting, does that make you a bandit like the other types? As things develop something may be put in place that only defines you if you want it to, but I think it would need very careful consideration because your actions shouldn't be judged by the game - just by other players and yourself. I like the idea of some sort of morality system for your character that is only known to you, that works in tandem with a dynamic loot spawn system to offer different clothing that reflects your morality. That way you can choose to wear it or not and identify the type of player you are.

<<<< [How to] Improve random player killing. >>>>

Don't think we can judge the KOS as being an issue at the moment. At best it might be annoying, but it is too early to make assumptions that this will continue at the same level once more variation is added to the game. In response to OP; Well thought out points even if not agreed with. 1. Character skills shouldn't exist, the skill is what you the player bring to the game. 2. No perma NPC's camps or groups. But would like to see some dynamic events appear on the map at random locations/times. Could maybe make various ones based on saving or killing NPCs (bandit/hero etc) Once completed the NPCs if alive disappear. - This might relate to your Point 4 for reasons why people might group together, some missions too hard to solo 3. Needs the risk and be kept dynamic by players 4. Some will group with friends, some will group as they make friends and others will lone-wolf. Whether solo or grouped, bandit, survivor or hero - none should face restrictions and benefits defined by the game. 5. No bonus for killing bandits other than you get to live and you get their stuff if you loot it. 6. No messages. Every encounter should be a risk, adds to the excitement/fear (see Bandit, Hero or Survivor below) 7. As point 4. No advantages for being good or bad - no disadvantages either 8. A new character is a new character. You don't keep your loot, why keep anything else. 9. Lets see how the game develops first. 10. Need more info about the future of the game first. Bandit, Hero or Survivor skins Perhaps something could be done for this based on actions within the game... wait, hear me out. As a new spawn you start out as a Survivor, for every other person you kill that's got a Survivor status you get +0 to your status Kill a bandit and you get a plus score, kill a hero and you get a minus score. Could be extended to include other things such as robbing but not killing, handing over food and water etc. Now these scores don't offer any actual advantages, but perhaps if there was a more dynamic loot spawn system - such as looking in closed wardrobes, drawers etc you might find clothing based on your current status. The more in the [+] you are the more likely to find gear for heroes, the more [-] you are, bandit gear. If you're a survivor perhaps the gear available will always the be the default in game stuff. What this does is makes Bandits more baddass if they kill Heros and might encourage them to at least kill survivors for their loot, not just from distance for shits and giggles.
  25. Which of his films are you referring? Was it Diary or Survival? I can't remember sprinting Z's in those, but they're incredibly forgettable films so it may be I was too busy watching the timer count up to the end of the films to notice. Night, Dawn, Day and Land all shamble with the occasional 'lurch' DayZ needs running Z's, but not sprinting one's - unless the AI is improved so that they can be realistically lost using cover. Also the ability of players to sprint at top speed should be time or distance limited with a respite before starting again.
