Discussion: Giving Players a Reason to Interact, not just KOS.
dejeffers replied to D Train's topic in General Discussion
Following along the lines of what Foolz said, if they make the game stupidly hard to survive as a solo player you could add a reason for interacting. Put a sh*t load of zeds in all the high priority locations. Going to cities, AF's and military bases should require multiple people to help stem the tide of zeds. This could mean people will be more inclined to seek help or assist others. If at that point they, or you, decide to turn on your fellow survivors for the loot, well so be it. At least there was some interaction first! This wouldn't force a playstyle on anyone, you could still hit the smaller towns for a bit of loot then spend your days in the hills hunting if you like. But if you want the good stuff, a bit of co-operation, even if temporary, would be required. You won't get rid of KoS, nor should you. It adds a dynamic to the game whether you agree with it or not. I would also hate to see anything that defines a player as good or bad. We are all bad already, but just to varying degrees! -
You are saying that hearing gunshots would boost your adrenaline levels and thus keep you awake - but the character would be awake in the game even though you are no longer logged in? If you want to add your system you would also need to make the awake character playable - basically forcing someone to watch their character fall asleep. Because if you are saying they are awake that also means they must be able to react to situations. So we could end up in a wonderful cycle of never being able to log out because as soon as we hear a gunshot we would have to wait 30 mins. I think the current situation is working fine for the time being and if they do need to adapt it I don't think your method is suitable in the slightest. It's just too extreme.

Should Physical Player Improvements For Surviving Long Periods Of Time Be Implamented?
dejeffers replied to leefriendfield's topic in General Discussion
Apparently, urbanDictionary defines fanboy as "A passionate fan of various elements of geek culture (e.g. sci-fi, comics, Star Wars, video games, anime, hobbits etc.), but who lets his passion override social graces." May I just say that the bit about lack of social graces would suggest that you yourself are the fanboy. My concern is simply that there are so many things IRL you claim you could achieve but are maybe missing out on by playing this game. But if that is what you wish then you should contact the devs, and don't let anyone try to stop you - which I wasn't actually doing and I apologise if you feel I was trying to stifle your creative input into the development of this game. -

Geez, rage much? and 'fanboy', where'd that come from?? The effective solution is to not add skills - there, fixed the exploiting. No need to bother the developers with your desires, though if you are desperate enough there are some corpses you can defile! -
Found a GAP store. It's their latest line in apocalypse-chic! The splitting axe fits the style better than the fire axe and the look is completed with a courier bag.

dejeffers replied to leefriendfield's topic in General Discussion
LoL with all that stuff to achieve IRL why bother with the game? Seriously though, any skills relating to combat should always be down to actual player skill - otherwise there will be too many ways to exploit/grind them up. Other improvements to the more passive abilities, like sewing and cooking I think should be possible. Who knows, you may be able to become a seamstress and turn worn clothing into pristine items, if that is what you wish. -
Had issues logging into the servers last night and when I finally did I was back on the beach. Insta quit the game, left it about 10 minutes then tried again and my character was back. The issue of servers not linking correctly to the hive still exists so just log out and wait a while to see if that fixes it.

Survey: How many of you played the Mod or ArmaII/III?
dejeffers replied to airfell's topic in General Discussion
Play A3 & wasteland. As for the Mod, my only experience was watching a sh*t-tonne of youtube vids wishing I had a PC to play it. -
I wouldn't want anything that involves talking to an NPC, however if there were 'events' that periodically happened I could see that working. It might mean things like walkie-talkies could be used, if you had one you might pick up a random signal from a plane/helicopter crash site with a grid reference - you get there, everyone is dead (coz don't want npcs running around!) but the place is swarming with zeds. Kill them, get some loot for your troubles and be on your way. Lets face it, walkies aren't actually gonna be used by anyone, everyone's on TS or Skype! These type of 'events' don't need to be endgame stuff but would make a nice change of pace from the human events of 'hey, I'm here - come shoot me' or that other favourite 'hey, we're here - come shoot us'.

I don't regret buying this game, I spent 4 times as much on BF3 and played that for a 5th of the time I've spent in dayz. That said, I do have apprehensions about where the development is heading.

later in the future, will there be actual PVE servers?
dejeffers replied to bioned's topic in General Discussion
At the moment, when playing a 25% or so completed game. With some of the ideas the hinted at, there could be a lot of scope for those who want to pve without it becoming 'boring'. Why shouldn't someone who wants to RP just the zombie experience not be allowed to, especially if the hives are separate from the pvp ones, won't affect pvp'ers. Not everyone wants to RP as Rambo which is what the alpha offers at the moment and we shouldn't judge a year down the line on what we are playing now. The devs are constantly thinking of new ways to kill us so I am sure that by the time beta hits, other players will be the least of our worries and the environment will play a much larger part - the devs are evil people. -
Whats the 1st thing I should do when I spawn for the 1st time?
dejeffers replied to parnell91's topic in New Player Discussion
Also take your t-shirt off and tear into rags, just in case! -
Yep, place it it your hands at a water pump and you will get the option to fill canteen. If you fill it up at a pond add some water purification tablets to the canteen.

Server population - do you gravitate to large or small?
dejeffers replied to Death By Crowbar's topic in General Discussion
10-15 on a server is my max at the moment. I find I get a more varied experience if/when I do cross paths with someone. Most of the high-pop servers seem to be just circle-jerks for those who believe that as soon as an apocalypse hits, everyone will instantly go round killing each other.
