Hackers forcing me to wait for full version.
djkling replied to PixelPopper's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Sadly your option is not playing and waiting for Rocket's stand-alone, SP, or THe War Z... Arma2 has been plagued with hackers forever -
Loot map.... Do you think its more fun with or without it?
djkling replied to -MadTommy's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I find the game is more fun and immersive without it . Why? Because it is more unpredictable and I dont walk around just trying to find loot... -
A new 'status' to encourage cooperation
djkling replied to ScienceCow's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I'll chime in late but i like the idea of needing to be around people BUT, I think that Survivor styles should get a benefit for banding together and Bandits should have a penalty for being around others (this will support their play style and prevent blob-banditry to some extent). I also like the idea of a medication to help stave off the lonliness for survivors, though I think they should be moderately common (on par with... maybe bandages? or morphine?). This provides a grouping mechanic AND another survival aspect -
Laptops can run this game just fine, you just need a good lapto. I run pretty similar specs on my Origin PC and i can max out the game. I have a desktop I use normally (with triple monitors, etc) but when i'm on the road I like to be able to game still. My recommendation... order from Origin since if you need to upgrade your CPU/GPU/RAM you can just mail it back and pay the difference. Sometimes they will give you some cash for your old gear. I have an older 17" unit which actually fit two 680M's but if i disable one card it still runs super smooth, so I'd say get a 680M. Either CPU is fine. As for the RAM questin, it only matters IF you have a dual channel RAM, in which case 2x4G >>> 1x8G. It decreases the bottleneck. If you REALLY want to futureproof your computer, why not get SSD's over a faster processor. Anyhow, don't believe the naysayers.. I was killing zeds on a hotel wireless connecion with all settings maxed while i was in Vermont...

I'm pretty cumptarded (computarded?) and I've been able to figure this out... here is all you have to do EVERY time... This assumes you have it installed already! 1) Upgrade your Arma2 Beta to the latest... how? Use Arma2 Launcher and it will have a button in "launch options" to get the latest beta. Download and update. Its self explanatory 2) Download ALL the files from the main page (I use the mirror, i dont torrent) to a desktop folder (I call mine DayZ Current) 3) Unzip ALL the files into the same directory 4) Delete all the old zip files (i think they are rar?) 5) Highlight ALL the files, select "Cut" 6) Paste them into your @DayZ folde and when it asks what to do... REPLACE the files 7) run game takes me 5 minutes.

Well done! I didnt know what that command did and forgot all about it... gonna use that to show people i'm not there to shoot them! I wonder if we can maybe make it to instead of bandits killing everyone they can rob you, take x number of items without you being able to stop them while in surrender mode... could be a great idea to improve gameplay

If rocket only fixed the ability to hack the game, I'd honestly be satisfied with a lot. Balance will come, no matter what you like to think, because its the essence of games. I like a hardcore survival sim. I dont love PvP but its reasonable. Lets just agree this is HARDLY a failure...

I read it, I understand it, and I agree only with the part that boredom is what keeps people killing eachother. OK, well not just boredom but a lack of any reason NOT to kill people. To call this mod a failure is like saying Motzart couldnt put together a good piece for an orchaestra... wtf son? This game is a mod and is ON THE MAP... people have been talking about this across the world. Arma2 was a hit, this rejuvinated a game that most had started to leave waiting for Arma3... so I ask you... how can you call this a fail?

1.7.2 Opinion thread. All your opinions, good and bad, go here.
djkling replied to Denuth's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
OK here is my current impression of the latest patch (1.7.3?) 1) Servers are a nightmare. Not sure if better or worse. Lots of locked servers is annoying (thought no private servers? maybe i missed this) but really I have to say I spend a lot of time rebooting Arma2 now with the "Loading" screen stuck. When it loads its fast, otherwise it locks 2) Zombie Aggro seems to have hit a bit of a sweet spot if you ask me. I cant be careless and crouch-run into towns now, I spend a lot of time carefully and methodically crawling around.I like that, it makes the zeds viable without the HUGE aggro they had before 3) Hatchets work well, not great, but its good enough for alpha if you ask me. 4) Animals behaving better, more zeds than i've seen before (yay!) 5) desync issues still plague pvp but I dont pvp much so i can not say i test it often 6) Food is now pretty scarce. I like that, though it makes it a lot harder. found 75 marakov mags, no beans. Damn you rocket.... had to play another 2 hours to load up on gears! 7) few recommendations: should need to eat less. I understand drinking is necessary, but food should be more periodic. Also, drinking from water. This should be something we can do at a water spicket or pond. Maybe even make empty cans able to carry water.... it IS a can after all (maybe not store the water but maybe you need an empty can to drink from streams/spickets?). I'd like to see scoped weapons much more rare, and increase the range of the noise that all the modern firearms make. I have shot a zed with others around and they dont even notice the dinner bell... lastly, something to encourage grouping would be nice. I dont want to play the bandit punishment game, but its something to keep putting out there that people really should have incentive to band up. Otherwise, this mod is getting better by the day. -
I actually think the aggro is just about sweet spot right now. I can play, but i can not be careless. Its better than the superman aggro from before but not as back as pre 1.7.1 era.

The shooting bugs and why this game will become a sniper war...
djkling replied to Hanga's topic in New Player Discussion
I have had this happen as well, however... my guess is the sync issue will probably be fixed with the A3 engine, I think the sync has been a problem for A2 for as long as MP has been around since it used to happen in Warfare BE as well -
Best places to find snipers? *Not Miitary*
djkling replied to mccullxch's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I prefer the hatchet and a pair of binos. Sniper rifles are for bandits. Not for scouting. Get yourself a hatchet, a M1911, and stock up on beans and cola! -
Yeah, figured it was a hack and it DID look cool. But it spoils the realism unless there is consequence to it. And I hate hacks, so i'm off that server...

Post apacolyptic greifing simulator for D-bags
djkling replied to skyter's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm inclined to say that banditry is rampant because people are playing this as a game and not a simulator. If this is rocket's intent... to not have any real social (in-game social i mean, not mumble chats etc) interaction then he has created a phenomenal lone-wolf survival game. Its still fun, and there is a lot of cool PvP. However, if Rocket wants (or has any desire) to have people group up he will need to make an incentive to group or disincentive to being a sociopathic killer. I do agree there should be SOME disadvantage to killing a human. This is the apocalypse... there may only be 10 or 20 humans left alive and people in a real situation would band together for safety with RARE sociopaths killing eachother. I feel like these natural human instincts go backward when there is no consequence other than respawn. So, like i said... I have my opinion but the eventual outcome will come from 2 places: 1) Game or Simulation 2) Rocket's desire on social or anti-social gaming Neither is truly right or wrong, but rocket (and BI) want to make a lasting game. Pure PvP works, but only in the context of still being able to enjoy a game as well. PvE works, but the challenge is lost once you figure out the AI. I think the game needs a balance of both. Maybe punitive for killing a LOT of people, maybe make incentives to grouping. Maybe both. Maybe make a disincentive to being alone (like a hunger meter) and force people to make at least one friend. I don't know what the answer is, but like i said... much depends on HOW you play it. To me its an RPG-Simulation, so I play it like my life depends on it. If someone wants to group and help me haul beans... awesome. If you want to shoot at me... be prepared to be hit with a Lee-Enfield round in the face. I don't care... but I love the idea of a hardcore sim. Bring on the complexity. Bring on the bandits. Bring on the zeds :) -
and... i have no idea why i called it forrest with two R's... its really late and i missed that...
