Bad luck, wipes and hackers in DayZ

Sounds like you haven't been paying attention. Alpha is to add features. Beta is to fix bugs. We're in Alpha. Got it ? Is that why the hotfixes' date=' FIX things? Ohyou.jpg [/quote'] You don't understand how DayZ is developed, do you ? Rocket releases a patch with new features / content, and then he will fix critical issues through hotfixes. He should not be worried about balance, hacking or anything right now. Things will change a lot, YOU WILL lose your character and stuff due to bugs and exploits. It will happen often, it's all part of testing it. Once he is satisfied with the features he added in he is going to add more features and so on. Once everything is in place, and only then, he will work to balance everything and fix bugs and hacks. All this QQ isn't helping anything. People need to understand how development works. While this is true for a normal Alpha Test it really doesn't apply to DayZ. Normally an Alpha Test is conducted by a very tightly controlled group of testers. In DayZ this is not the case. Normally in an Alpha you don't have to worry about hackers because all of your testers have been hand selected. In DayZ this is not the case. In a normal Alpha you can concentrate solely on feature building because even though the program may have serious security flaws you know the testers wont try to exploit them. In DayZ this is not the case. When Rocket opened the flood gates to the general public he negated the closed testing environment that a normal Alpha test requires. In the case of DayZ the fall out of this decision is that the exploits and hacks need to be addressed or very little serious testing can be accomplished. This is still an Alpha Test but it's far from being a typical Alpha Test.

Is Survival enough of a goal?

Although Rocket does have definite plans to implement more sandbox features down the road to inspire people to work together there are still plenty of things to do in the game at it's current state. As others in this thread have pointed out you are only limited by your own imagination. Be creative and you'll find plenty of things you can do.

Let's have a debate on zombie AI...

While I do agree to a point I don't think the answer is to slow them down to walking speed. Making them run at a normal speed would be a start as right now they run faster than Olympic sprinters. Also spawn more and get rid of the zig-zag movement. Have more zombies that run straight for the player at a normal pace. It really doesn't make any sense that an infected that is deranged from their illness would take evasive maneuvers. They would only know that they need to feed and they would take the shortest route possible to get there. TL;DR: More zombies that run at a normal pace straight for the player.
  4. Yeah that is probably why it's less noticeable the farther north you go as there are less players. Places like the southern coast kinda nullify this though as there are always players nearby. The loot never gets cleared so you end up with nothing but junk after awhile. The issue still needs some kind of fix however. There are numerous threads about this problem. (Mostly about the lack of food along the coastal areas.)
  5. Yeah... A lot of the loot spawn problems could be fixed by just having the server reset the loot at set intervals. Like maybe every hour loot gets a reset. Because right now people pick up the good stuff and leave the junk. Eventually all loot spawns become junk. This is a problem that needs addressing. This isn't new either it's just a lot more noticeable since the loot re-balancing in the last patch.
  6. This is an Alpha test. The game will change many times before we get to Beta. Right now Rocket is trying many different things to figure out what works the best and we are his Guinea Pigs. You are not here to play a finished product. You are a lab rat in an ever changing maze. Someday we will all get the cheese we all seek but the maze will lead us to many dead ends before we get there.

    Calibrating sights.

Do you mean Zeroing? "Pg Up" and "Pg Dn"
  8. While I totally agree with you that this issue needs to be addressed in some way I do find it kinda ironic that you just informed a whole new group of players of an exploit that they may have not of thought of otherwise. Such is life I guess.

You are what is killing this game

Hey TheDee, Rocket actually agrees with you on this one. http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=14753 All that really needs to be said here.
  10. Yeah... I was starting to doubt the Mods future myself... just a little mind you. After seeing that video my confidence in Rocket has been restored to above what it was before. More videos like this one would be nice.

Server Admin Killed me upon Logging In.

Yeah... You logged in the most unsafe place imaginable. Someone was camping there, you popped in right next to them and was shot dead before you had entered the game fully. ProTip: Never, ever, ever log out anywhere near where other players visit regularly. You are just asking to log back in to "You Are Dead".
  12. Brenelael

    Can you server admins...

I think most server owners already do this when possible in my own experience with the game. The thing is that there are times when the server is just seriously screwed up and they have no choice but to hit the reset button without warning to fix the issue. I'm not sure but I think this is more of an issue with ArmA 2 than with DayZ and is really out of the control of the server admins or Rocket.

    No chat?

He's not asking for them to change the game he is just asking for Direct Chat to work as intended. This looks like it may be a bug. You should have made this thread in the Bug Reporting forum. You would have caught a lot less flak if you had.

Why did you remove bandit skin ?

In my honest opinion the removal had more to do with placing lootable skins in the world than the humanity system. The system is borked, even Rocket admits that and is why he's trying new things like the heartbeat thing. This is an Alpha Test so we all have to be patient while the devs work out these little problems. What they are doing won't always make sense and it doesn't have to from our perspective. Believe it or not there is a method in their madness most of the time.
  15. This is an early Alpha of this Mod. This means that things can and will change a lot. Sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worse. At times these changes drastically change the way the game is played and you have to adapt. You came in right after a major change to the Zombie AI system so right now we are in an "Ironing out the bugs" phase. Just stick with it and it will get better. Alpha means that right now the devs are trying to add new things to the game and refine the current systems but this is mainly done through trial and error. You will encounter bugs, broken game mechanics and a host of other "Unfair" things. Over time these problems will get sorted out but it's going to be a rough road getting there. As long as you understand these things this Mod can be a lot of fun. Welcome to DayZ.

    Bandit's, I have a question for you.

I don't think this ever happens. There is simply no reason for bandits to keep people alive. There needs to be something in place to make murdering less desirable. Something like for every murder' date=' zombies detect bandits 10 meters further away. Eventually the hardcore bandits will stick way outside of cities (like they would in real life) and any other bandits would try to rob people without killing. [/quote'] No..... just no. He is right about one thing though. There is absolutely no reason for a bandit to not just kill random people on sight. I'm not saying his solution is the way to go but giving total FPS Deathmatch kiddies the advantage isn't the answer either. I hope Rocket at the very least gives his heartbeat idea a try. At least that would make most people consider what they are doing before just pulling the trigger on some unsuspecting noob with only a flashlight. I don't think the heartbeat idea will work at all. Just earlier I was sniped from God knows where by some douche bandit. I had no clue where he was, and I was way the hell in the middle of nowhere. No, it needs to be something that actively affects the bandits so that they have an immediate consequence for their actions. No, it doesn't save you but it will mean the difference when someone sees him first in the future as to whether they will walk up and say howdy or shoot them in the face from 100m away. Eventually it will make people consider whether pulling the trigger on someone is worth it in the long run. [/quote'] No..... just no. Care to explain why you don't like this idea? There doesn't need to be an arbitrary, unrealistic mechanic to punish banditry (which is a core element of gameplay) in a game that strives to be "hyper-realistic". It is also difficult to "rob" survivors who are at least decently armed and desperate to keep their hard earned items without shots being fired. Besides, the current humanity system does not accurately identify bandits. Often I am forced to kill when I am fired upon and if my assailant does not manage to wound me his/her death is considered a murder. I would be the first to agree that the Humanity system is far from perfect but right now it's all we have. He needs to implement a system that can differentiate a true fire fight from someone just outright killing someone in cold blood. I'm not sure this is possible in the ArmA 2 framework however.

  18. Since the 1.7 patch I've had dozens of encounters with other players and only 1 ended up with me and the other guy teaming up for a while. Every other encounter turned into a shootout before we even got within comm range. Before the 1.7 patch I'd say it was about 50/50. May just be my bad luck but I've pretty much adopted a KOS attitude now and a lone wolf playstyle because of it. Before I always gave people the benefit of the doubt when encountering strangers. Now it's shoot or be shot.
  19. You can build a PC that will run just about anything at max settings for less than $2.5K ($25K? Really? does it have a solid gold case or something?). If you build a generation behind the current one you can build a PC that will run just about anything on high to max settings for around $800-$1K. For about $500 you can build something that will run ArmA II on high settings and will still most probably run ArmA 3 when it comes out but on lower settings. This game would be impossible to port to consoles so that isn't going to happen. Do yourself a favor and get a PC.

IF this was an actual game...

Buy to play (Game purchase along with buying future expansions like GW) Studio developed (But only if Rocket is the lead developer) Studio Servers (To make sure everything is under tight control to eliminate hacking/cheating) Kickstarter if funding needed (I would definitely contribute to this great game)
  21. If you built it they will come. Just like in real life word of mouth will be all the advertisement you will need. When the survivors that you help go back out into the world they will tell others who will seek you out.

Do you have a "home" server? or do you roam?

I did at one time have a server that I preferred but then out of the blue without explanation all of the server parameters got changed one day. I have been hopping around different servers since then to try and find a new "home". Not even the clan webpage for the server gave any indication or warning about this change. It's a shame too as I was definitely planning to join their clan until this happened as they seemed to be a good bunch of like minded players to myself.
  23. YES Something has to be done to try and control the shoot on sight mentality everyone has adopted. Right now everyone is a bandit because it's the only safe way to play.

Can we stop the CoD/BF3 name calling?

I've been playing Arma since it was called Operation Flashpoint many years ago and haven't missed a new version or DLC in all of those years. I like the Arma series because of it's sandbox nature and the highly realistic game play. I used to play the multiplayer a lot back in the OF days and even a little in the Arma 1 days but stopped a few years back because of all of the elitist epic douchbaggery that this community has fostered in the last few years. What amazes me is that all of these "Vets" that claim they want "epic realism" are actually trying to turn this mod into COD or BF death-match mode on a bigger map that happens to have zeds. It's highly ironic to say the least.
