Heh yeah, I'm pretty sure they did loot him, or just hid his corpse at least, when I went by again, I around where he said he died and couldn't find his body, heard the flies though.

    Sacrifice

I havn't played DayZ in a while, it's lost it's charm since I'm at the stage where PvP is the only 'fun' thing to do, and that's really not me. This happened just before I stopped playing, but I still remember it rather clearly because it was rather amusing for me. Anywhom.. After logging in with a friend just to the west of the Zelenogorsk supermarket, it was approaching dusk, after a quick survey of the area, we decided to go and see if the supermarket had anything useful, since I was still missing some of the tools, a map and compass. He stayed up on the hill providing overwatch, while I went and quickly and quietly looted the supermarket, got a bit more that expected, got the map, compass, tent and an alice, after meeting up with him again, we decided the next bet would be to skip Vybor and head straight for the International Airfield (NWAF). Skip forward about half an hour since nothing exciting happened aside from murdering a couple of defenceless goats, we hit the airfield, aaaand, server restart. Kinda ruined the immersion we had going on, but ooohwell. We log back into the server, it's night now, but the moon is out, so pretty good visibility, and head back into the airfield since it pushed us a couple minutes out. I see light by some of the hangers and tell my friend, we prone and start scanning for the light source, low and behold, it's a downed helicopter. We'd never seen a freshly spawned heli, and it was spectactular, burning into the night light a beacon of hope, as we are discussing who is going to go and get the precious lewts, we see movement on the outside of the light, and spot two other survivors. I'm not a PvPer by nature, so I just tell him to fire a couple warning shots, which he does, then we relocate, they retaliate by firing into where we were, so my friend gets rather scarily excited about killing these two. In his excitement, he lost where they shot from, so couldn't pick their location. And thus began the waiting game, neither of our groups could safely go loot the chopper for fear of death. We kept quietly moved around the chopper staying out of the light, to were we last saw them, only to discover, that they had done the same. About 10 minutes of doing this later, I thought screw it. Dropped all my gear infront of my friend, except my lee, which I had no ammo for anyway, and started proning out towards the chopper, he was rather confused and kept telling me to get back, well a bit more colourfully than get back, but it worked, they fired a couple shots, and allowed my friend to pinpoint them, which was just to the right of us, about 20 metres away, but I told him not to fire, hopefully they would think it was just me, they missed most of the shots, last couple got me in the legs and chest, knocking my unconscious, but oddly, not bleeding. So they both came (I at this point was thinking, seriously, both of you? Wow, didn't even bother to check I had friends) out to finish me off. I told my friend to let them, since we, like idiots didn't have any morphine and I wanted to respawn anyway. He got two bandit kills, 2 M4A1 CCO, lots of morphine *sigh*, an Alice pack, and a bunch of food and liquids. Chopper was useless only had ammo apparently. 20 minutes into my next respawn I was fully kitted up and heading back up to him, who got sniped heading past Zelenogorsk. Ahh DayZ, never fails to make me laugh. And thus ends my rather terrible story of my sacrifice and a dud chopper.
  3. First off, I'd just like to say.. They don't. If you want them to be punished, go find them and do it yourself. Rocket has said many times that he won't be adding any external balancing to the game, if we want balance, we do it ourselves. On the flip side of that, KoS, has become rampant, I remember a time when I could walk through Cherno and Elektro and meet other friendlies and go have a little adventure, now I get of the coast as soon as possible. In reality (Yes I do realise this is a game, and therefore cannot be entirely realistic) if a 'zombie' apocalypse were to happen tomorrow, most of us would all be suffering from some form of mental breakdown by the end of the week, as we watched our friends and families get devoured by zombies, whether it be minor or major who knows, that entirely depends on a variety of factors. Humans are by nature are social, it's how we have developed as a race, yes there are some of us who prefer to live alone, and they do that, but for the most part, we need others around, even if it's just minor interaction. In an apocalypse, most of us would form groups, depending on the overall morality, mentality and group members, that would determine how that group behaves, if it was a bunch of escaped convicts who lets say, were convicted of armed assault, murder, burglary, etc, grouped together, they aren't exactly going to hold hands and skip merrily through the streets, they are going to murder and rob their way through this apocalypse, with no regard for anything but themselves. Not everyone who plays DayZ has the same play-style, as an example people say adding in 'insane' effects for kills would punish banditry, the current rampant KoS punishes people who want to try and find other random survivors, if that ever gets added, everyone should suffer from it, but then the people who lone wolf, who wants no other survivor interaction gets punished, there isn't a feature like that, that could be added that wouldn't punish some play-style. Personally, I want to see something like this added, but in a way that it won't horribly interfere with or force people to change play-styles, it would make DayZ more interesting to play, because as people keep saying, DayZ is turning into 'Another generic Deathmatch! Now with extra zombie flavour!'. TL:DR - Don't look to Rocket or the Dev's to punish bandits, do it yourself, KoS is rampant, and the rest is just some stuff I threw in which I will probably edit later (To a more readable, stuctured and non want to scoop my brains out of my eyesockets it hurts so much to read, when I'm not at work :D) Feel free to do all that stuff to posts that you forum people do to posts.
  4. I wouldn't say the OP is trying to discourage murder, more giving people another option to it, when I started playing this alpha you could run through Cherno and Electro without being shot, and actually find players who were friendlies, now however, I don't even go near those cities because entering them generally leads to death. In my opinion, if the world actually suffered from an epidemic like DayZ, and people were to become infected, there would be some form of society maintained, even if it was murder all those not from our 'group' because they would be a drain on our precious resources, there would also be groups that would let others join, help them out, warn wandering survivors that they witnessed a murder if they were headed in the same direction as the killer, groups of players might leave notes on walls, much like L4D telling friends and family where they headed, so they could leave warnings on there too, like 'stay away from the firestation, bandits own it'. The basic idea is a nice one, but I think it would be better left up to players to do all the work, we just need the tools to do so.

    Player stuck in freelook view...

Hit 'Alt' twice, I had the same issue, till I realised that I'd toggled free-look on.

    My first kill

After logging in dead one day (no idea why, just died as soon as I loaded into the map, I had just found the coveted NVG's the night before and had been alive for about 20ish days). I decided to release some of my frustrations against zombies with a hatchet. It unsurprisingly didn't end well. So after respawning again, and meeting up with my friend, we headed to prig? what ever that town just north of Cherno is, we entered the barn, and oh boy what nice pile o' loot did that have it in, I grabbed a Lee, he a CZ500, and went, well tried to go on our merry way. After what seems about 30 seconds after exiting the barn, we start getting fired upon, so he heads for the treeline to get a better view and gets shot in the leg, which of course breaks. (I kinda laughed a bit at him, as he never seems to have any decent luck in DayZ) I just leave him in the dirt because he is still being shot at, and I thought maybe I could catch the guys shooting at him. I start flanking around the buildings to try get behind them, pop out to where I thought they were, didn't see anyone, so started heading back to my friends corpse to grab some of his loot, and low and behold, they are there looting his corpse. (I don't think they knew I was there) So I deemed it necessary to stop these guys looting my mates corpse, shot the lookout of the pair, as he was definitely the bigger threat, went to shoot at the other, and poof he disappears in a puff of logic. Got an alice pack, map, compass, binocs, and enough food and water to last me a while. I was a strictly no PvP guy before this moment, I don't know why I decided to kill these two, I could have easily gone on my way, I guess I was just caught up in the moment, with the adrenaline pumping though me, that was the only option. I think after this experience though, I'll change more to live and let live. If you don't seem a threat I'll let you be, I understand that this may get me shot in the back more than once, but I accept that, I'd rather help someone than kill them because I might need help in the future, and they might be the only one around with what I need, and who knows, they might remember that I helped them out and do the same for me. But yeah, that's my first kill, ain't the greatest I know, but for me. It's definitely a life-changer.
