  1. Looted one yesterday and found a 40 round M4 mag, Amphibia, various M4 parts and an explosive grenade. The grenade is different than the Russian RDG5 grenade. It was this one: http://dayz.gamepedia.com/Explosive_Grenade

Are we going to get dismemberment/gore?

Made me think of this. You have to be a real badass to kick with both feet at the same time.
  3. Lawnmower is the most OP vehicle. The reason being is that nobody could stop laughing long enough to shoot someone on a lawn mower. Also the perfect anti-zombie vehicle, for obvious reasons. I'd also like to suggest (if it hasn't been already) the classic windowless van. The terror factor of this vehicle means nobody wants anything to do with it. The option to spray paint vehicles goes well with this. Think FREE CANDY in big, red, drippy letters on the side.

Can we give sporter 22 attatchments?

Certainly wouldn't hurt to have a short range scope. An improvised flashlight would be cool too. Duck tape + flashlight. I also agree that magazines are difficult to find, and you would think they would be common in residential buildings. And I'd like to point out that even for a .22 this gun feels weak. I own a .22 and have fired thousands of rounds with it. It may seem weak compared to other firearms, but it is still a lethal weapon. A single shot to the cranium would likely be fatal, and I don't think anyone is going to keep coming at you if you put a few rounds in any other area of their body. The sound is also off. For some reason, the sporter sounds more like a bb gun or pellet gun. It is true that .22s are considerably quieter than most other firearms, but it is much louder in real life than it is in game. Unless you have a silencer or something, which I have never seen on a .22 rifle, you're going to hear this gun the better part of a mile away, possibly more depending on wind conditions. Not trying to bitch at all, I know, work in progress, alpha, etc. Just offering a little perspective from someone who has a lot of experience with this weapon type in real life.

    firefighter jacket

Found two of them in the same fire station, one black and one yellow/beige. I think that was the only time I've seen them though.

    Weapons w/ Magazines

I managed to find an AKM, a 30 round mag and a 75 round drum mag in the barracks at the small military base south of NWAF last night. I did notice that most magazines are considerably more difficult to find. I also found an AK101 but never saw a mag for it. I also never saw any handguards or folding buttstocks for the AKs. Finding ammo for either gun was fairly easy on the bases but I don't think I've seen any for either weapon outside military bases since the patch.

    Where're them doggone hacksaws?

I'm playing stable and I found one last night, though I have noticed they are quite a bit more rare than they used to be. I wish I could tell you where I found it but I can't remember. But yes, they are still in-game. Sorry I can't give you an exact location.

    Mortar!

You should read Lucifer's Hammer if you want a better idea of how things would likely go in an apocalypse scenario. Most people would be teaming up and grabbing any sort of firepower they could get their hands on. As for the mortar, my opinions are based upon what my father has told me. He was in the guard way back when and supervised fire drills. He gave me a pretty thorough explanation of how mortars work so that's what I'm going off of. I am suggesting they be added because I know that they are not a simple one-man point and shoot sort of weapon. If they were realistically implemented, they would be an end-game sort of weapon that takes much work, knowledge and skill to even be remotely effective. The idea is to give people something fun and challenging to work towards after they have picked up all the gear they need. Now others may say that it will make clans even more OP. I disagree. Most players who manage to assemble a mortar will be working in groups, yes, but that means that they will also be tied down defending their mortar. Having a mortar will make them a target, so their fun will come at a price. There is no reason that an enterprising lone wolf can't pick them off after their mortar is assembled then use it for himself. He may not be able to transport the mortar after capturing it but he could at least use it where it stands.
  9. Normally I don't kill zombies with guns because I don't want to waste my ammo and let everything between Chernarus and Neptune know that I'm in the area but I had to try it today just to see how many zombies I could draw to myself. I started spraying pretty liberally with the 9mm pistol and switched to the m4 after I drained my clip for the pistol. I used almost two more 60 round clips before I started bleeding (a zombie spawned behind me and thumped me) and they were still coming when I started to run away. I wouldn't suggest wasting ammo on them unless you're in a bad situation or something but it is a lot more fun than axing them.

    Pistol Magazines

Exactly. I have called them clips my entire life. "Clip" has fewer syllables than "Magazine". I own and fire enough guns to call them what I want without being hassled by some 17 year old kid who has never fired a gun in his life. Sorry for getting off topic a bit, had to get that off my chest. Too many anal RP basement wizards correcting things they have no knowledge of. Now more on topic, yeah pistol clips are rare. I have looted the NE and NW airfields as well as several police stations and various other supposed clip spawn locations on my character without dying. I have found 3 fnx clips and one 9mm clip. None for the 1911 or the amphibia. During this time I have passed many pistols but only the scant few clips.

    Larger zombies?

Who remembers the super mutant behemoth? One of my favorite bosses though I'm not sure it has a place in this game. But still, death by fire hydrant? No thanks. I think another variety came even bigger than this but I might be wrong about that.
  12. I found the rifle on the second floor of a piano house though I dropped it after having no luck finding a magazine for it. Does anyone know where the magazines for it spawn? Oh and the magazines for the 1911 because I have been unable to find those as well. Edit: Make sure you save a can of spray paint because it looks great in black ;)

    Weapon ballance

I think the idea is to promote longer firefights. Nobody likes to be one-shot-killed. If it takes more bullets to kill someone then you have more chances to run, heal or stand and fight. More fun with smaller caliber weapons in my opinion.

    Thanks Nick,for the LRS!

Good story. These encounters make the risk of being friendly worth the reward. I've teamed up and traded with players I just met during friendly encounters, once even teaming up with some random kind soul for at least a good 6 hours.

    Mortar!

I'd like to see things like this only if they were: - Difficult to find - Not completely transportable by a single person - Not able to be overly abused by larger groups of players I'm not just talking about the mortar here. I'm talking about things like military vehicles, particularly the sort with mounted weapons, and other things like machine guns. These things should require a great deal of tools and searching and transporting parts and should ideally require multiple players to transport the components, unless some dedicated lone player felt like trekking back and forth across the map to assemble the pieces. I think that this would provide a great sort of end-game objective for many players and would encourage people to consider working together to assemble these things rather than murdering each other on sight all the time. Also I think that the fact that most of these weapons are cumbersome and not easy to transport or chase people down with would give them a degree of vulnerability to someone clever enough to flank them. As I'm sure most of you know, a standard mortar requires multiple people to transport and is not a fighting force in itself, it must be defended.

    Playstyle consequences

I die a lot. Usually because I take the risk of interacting with others. It's frustrating to team up with someone and help them out only to be shot in the back by them later. I try to follow the old rule of treat others as you would be treated. No, it's not the best way to survive but if survival was all I cared about I'd go sit in a forest up North somewhere. It is, however, the best way to make interesting friends and have some great experiences. If you kill everyone you come across or even avoid them completely then you lose that and you might as well play some offline fps game. Now for the people who say "I kill everyone on sight because most of them will do it to me". You are A PART of the problem, not APART from the problem. You are contributing to the same thing you are complaining about. Perhaps you think that you cannot make a difference, being only one person, but think of every positive experience that you have, that leaves at least one other person with the same experience. Maybe some of them will go on to seek out the same experiences with others. If you want to have better experiences with others then lead by example. Of course there are plenty of angry children out there who just want to see the world burn, but don't let them ruin your game for you. Just take a risk but use a little caution. Also I'm all for PvP, but mowing down fresh spawns and shooting someone in the back from 500m away when they aren't even aware that you're there is hardly PvP. If they don't have a reasonable chance to fight back, it's not PvP, it's just murder and very unimaginative trolling.

I'd like some different foot gear...

We should have a kicking option and it should work something like this. Don't need guns anymore.
  18. Griz2

How many have you killed and why ?

Only 3 so far, as I tend to be friendly and play on mostly lower population servers. One was a guy on the coast. We were both fresh spawns and he started a fist fight and lost. Another was some well geared guy looting an airbase with his back to me. I walked intot the building to find him only a few feet away with his back to me. I didn't trust him not to shoot me if he turned around so I shot him before he got the chance to do the same to me. The most recent was while I was looting a firestation (in Elektro I think). They got the drop on me, as I turned around to find somone sprinting towards me weilding a fire axe. I had a gun but was only holding my fireaxe at the time and didn't have time to get my gun before they got to me. So, we messed each other up with fire axes and I was bleeding out fast so I sprinted outside to put some distance between us so I could draw my magnum. When I turned around I found the axe murderer and a zombie chasing me, both only a few meters away. I dropped them both with the magnum only to bleed out right before I was able to bandage myself. At least my attacker didn't get my stuff.

    Warning Shots

I would like to take this topic in a slightly different direction if the OP doesn't mind. I discovered a simple but very useful trick last night. I met some guy and we were both kind enough not to kill each other on sight. We both had a common goal (get to the airfield) and a single compass between us and only a fuzzy idea of where the nearest one was, so it made sense to stick together to get there. After we found our way to the northeast airfield we undertook the arduous task of navigating to the northwest airfield. By the time we got there we had been playing together for quite a long time and having fun and really helping each other out a lot. When the server abruptly restarted and I couldn't find him when we logged back on, I was a bit disappointed that I lost such a good companion. I could see that he was online and knew he must be in the area but he was out of voip range. I decided to fire my pistol into the air in a series of slow shots in intervals. I hoped he was bright enough to catch onto the idea. When I heard his shots I knew he understood. We played the marco polo pistol come-find-me for a few minutes until we eventually intercepted each other again. I realize that this tactic would not be wise in all scenarious for obvious reasons, but we were on a very low pop server and had plenty of ammo to spare. Sorry if I was a little heavy on the details, but I like to read about other people's experiences, so why not. Anyways, OP, I think you have a good idea in theory, as it would likely be pretty effective in real life, but I think most people in this game would just as soon turn around and blast you if they heard shots. As somethingbloody mentioned, most people would assume that you were shooting to kill and just missing. I know I would blast anyone who shot at me first and was unlucky enough to miss. I could see this being an effective tactic against someone armed with only melee weapons or nothing at all.

    Wind-Up Electronics

Yeah that's just what we need, fresh spawns running around in the dark with a wind up flashlight going ZZZZZzzzzZZZZZZzzzzz. I'm sure this will help them remain low key and they will surely live much longer :D On a serious note, it's a neat idea. Will these wind up devices be as unreliable and useless as they are in real life?
  21. Griz2

How to make the map more engaging.

I think you have some pretty fantastic ideas here. I especially like the idea of a wandering zombie horde that could perhaps be baited into a larger group of players to kill them or just cause a little chaos or a distraction. I also like the idea of static landmarks. Fallout was one game that I remember having some interesting static landmarks (though too few in my opinion). Lastly I like your idea of more varied/unique places. I personally would like to see guns and other weapons spawn in a more dispersed manner. After all, there are plenty of gun nuts and just good old fashioned county folk who have full and semi auto weapons and stuff under their beds (at least in the U.S., anyways.). Great ideas. I would love to see at least a few of these implemented.

    A Living-My-Life

Someone loves italics. Oh, and your idea sounds interesting. Hope you make it far without dying.
  23. For me, the most annoying glitch by far is glitching through floors/stairs/ladders/walls and falling to my death. This ends up killing me more often than other players/zombies/the elements combined.
  24. Good for you for knowing who this guy is. I've seen the documentary a few times and read the book. If this sort of thing interests you I'd suggest picking it up if you can find it. I think it's called One Mans Wilderness: An Alaskan Odyssey.

    KOS Hysteria

In regards to the topic of whether or not there should be consequences to cold-blooded-murdering, I can understand both sides. However, I see many people making the argument "this is a survival simulator, people shouldn't be penalized for yada yada yada...". I don't consider this a valid argument because in a true post-apacolypse scenario, you likely wouldn't be going around murdering everyone you see, not if you wanted to live for long. People would band together to hunt YOU down. That being said, how would you implement repercussions in a way that would distinguish between killing indiscriminately and killing in self defense? Possibly some sort of bounty system as an incentive for other players to track you down if certain requirements are met (such as killing x amount of players in a certain period of time, labeling you a bandit/murderer). It is also difficult to track down who is actually doing the murdering considering there are no names above players heads as in other games and no death messages such as "You were killed by Player12345". It seems that for the time being people can play this game like it's COD with minimal interaction with other players. As I mentioned before, this playstyle sort of defeats the purpose of the game and I don't quite understand why anyone would want to ruin another player's experience just to satisfy themselves for a few seconds. If that's what you want, you can find it elsewhere and you don't have to spend hours gearing before deciding to murder other players indiscriminately.
