    reduce weapon sway?

I frequently shoot small and large caliber rifles with both low and high power scopes. Personally I'd like to see the sitting position adjusted so that you can rest the rifle on your knee or the kneeling position adjusted so you rest your elbow on your knee while holding the rifle. Also as any good woodsman knows, it's always a smart idea to steady yourself/rifle against a tree or other solid object while hunting. It has the same effect as a bipod and nearly eliminates weapon sway. This isn't always necessary if you're hunting larger things like deer (or people?) because you're aiming at a larger target, depending on distance of course. However, if I had the option, I would do it anyway for increased accuracy just to improve my odds of hitting my intended target. It would be nice to either automatically stabilize your aim or have the option to do so if standing next to a large solid object. I don't know about other marksmen, but all the techniques I mentioned have been common practice for me all my life. I don't have much experience with open/iron sights as I always use scoped rifles but for me it's nearly impossible to aim, let alone hit anything while walking and using a scope. I really want to stress how much it improves your aim if you can stabilize a firearm on something. Would be great if we had the option to do so.

    Communication

I agree. Of course you can always check pulse or add somebody on Steam but sometimes you don't get a chance. Sometimes you forget to check their name and the server restarts and you're forever separated. I once ran with a guy for a few hours and we had a blast. The server restarted and I forgot to get his name. I jumped back on hoping he'd be on there again. I resorted to firing my pistol in the air in regular intervals hoping he would hear it. Luckily he was nearby and he was clever enough to understand what I was doing so we were reunited. This is not always the case though. I recently encountered another friendly player while I was near death on a lootless section of the map. He killed the zombie that I had trapped on the roof of the police station, gave me some rice, a shotgun and about 30 rounds. Saved my life. Never saw him again. But yeah, we need something to help us track down friendly players... Tire fires... Smoke signals... Bullhorns... Anything... I guess the walkie-talkies are a step in the right direction. I also support the idea of global chat but I can understand why some players wouldn't want it. Breaks immersion and the feeling of isolation a bit and that's a big part of what makes encounters with other players such a thrill. Still, I think the benefits outweigh the drawbacks and I see no reason why players/servers couldn't disable global chat if they decide they don't want it. I'm sure it will come in time.
  3. I set out with the intent of murder and bloodshed last night, which I rarely do. I was at the small military base about 5 minutes South of NWAF. I looted the largest building with the jail cell and as I was walking out another well geared player walked in. I panicked and instead of blasting him I said FRIENDLY DON'T SHOOT! He didn't shoot and didn't even have his gun out. I had my Mosin out and a .357 in my bag. I noticed he had an AK 101 and after talking with him for a few minutes he said he was looking for a mag for it. I happened to have one but no gun for it. So I gave him the mag and got out of there without giving him enough time to think about blasting me. I had actually been looking for some sort of matching AK/mag and as I was running away I cursed myself for not gunning him down and taking his AK 101 since I had the mag for it and he had no usable weapons as far as I knew. My kindness got the better of me even when I had intended to pvp. Oh well, at least I feel like I did the right thing. That's still a hard one for me to swallow though.

    "No I'm not friendly!"

I bet that kid's parents are really worried about him. I can only guess what they're thinking hearing that coming from his room.

    Gasoline Canister Mechanincs

I support all of the above ideas, especially improvised flamethrowers. Maybe a garden variety (pun intended) herbicide/pesticide sprayer. The hand pump pressurized kind. Wouldn't have a huge range and would be worthless at medium/long distance but it would be great for zombies or anything else in an 8-10 ft. range. It would be so much fun. I don't expect this to happen but hey, I can dream. And uh, I'll just leave this here...

    Best overall pistol

If I had my choice I'd go with the FNX because of the magazine capacity, the stopping power and the attachments. I haven't seen one in ages though. I often find the ammo and magazines at military areas but I guess the FNX is only spawning at crash sites now. Too bad, it was a lot of fun. I also like the CR75 because of the magazine capacity. I can usually find one fairly easily but mags are a bit more difficult. Still, I usually will find at least one mag for it and the ammo is everywhere at military bases. The .357 has saved my ass the most though, and I've used all 3 pistols in equal amounts (before FNX disappeared). Gotta love the stopping power of that thing. I recently got into a double barrel vs. .357 close quarters battle, with me having the .357. I came out on top. Barely alive maybe, but on top nonetheless. I guess you could attribute that to the .357 having three times the capacity of a double barrel but my point is that when it comes to firepower, it does give you a fighting chance against larger weapons. I like this gun but I don't find as much ammunition as others here claim to. But the .357, ammo and speed loaders are all fairly common so I think it's probably your best bet if you set out with the intent of finding a good sidearm.

    Some DayZ Facts About You...

Edit: ^ Caboose's forum signature makes me laugh every time I read it. Btw there's a typo in there. - I once saw a zombie chasing a deer through the streets of Berezino as I was walking out of the grocery store (WTF moment). - I take big risks and make little effort to stay hidden in the hopes of running into some ridiculous scenario with another player. - I very rarely seek out other players with the intent to kill them. I try to play the hero as much as possible. - I usually carry two guns, one on my back and one in my hands and a few pistols in hopes of finding someone I can give them to. - I will give any friendly player I meet nearly anything I'm carrying in an effort to help them out. - I found my second Press Vest yesterday. It's mine and you can't have it! - I sometimes keep notes in my backpack with ridiculous things written on them for people who kill me to find. - Sometimes my FPS in cities is so bad I have to run looking almost straight down at the ground to keep my FPS at a reasonable rate.
  8. What I really don't like is being sniped or gunned down for no reason with no interaction. I don't mind dying though. If you or your clan like to murder everyone you find then at least make it entertaining for me. I live for the interaction with other players in this game, be it good or bad. Get a little creative if you must kill me. My most recent death was at the small military barracks about 5 minutes south of NWAF. It was a low-medium pop server so I thought it relatively safe. I closed the door behind me when I entered the barracks. As I was looting the bunk rooms I noticed a player through the glass of the door, which I was glad I had closed behind me. I panicked and without much thought, I took cover behind an open door in the hall and raised my SKS. The guy opens the door and I have him at a disadvantage because his weapon is down and for a few seconds he just stood there with no cover. I could have easily gunned him down but I'm generally not that type of person. I stopped pointing my weapon at him and told him that I was friendly and could give him some stuff if he needed it. He ducked away from the door and told me to drop my weapon. It was then that I knew where this was going so I went into a bunk room and closed the door. He then shows up at the window and tries to shoot me though the glass but of course he couldn't. I kept trying to communicate with him but he never said anything beyond "drop your weapon". I then see his buddy outside as well. Great, now I'm outnumbered. There may have been another one there but I can't be certain. So they toss in a grenade but it only hurts my leg a little. One of them tries opening the door to my room so I fire a few shots and close the door. I'm outnumbered, outgunned (they have AKs) and trapped in a tiny room. I also need to reload but I don't dare for fear of them rushing me when I do. So the guy opens the door again and runs by the doorway blasting with his AK. I fire what's left in my SKS but I can't compete with the AK. And that was the end of me. This situation could have been so much more interesting if they had at least tried to negotiate or trick me. I would never surrender if I had the ability to defend myself with at least a small chance of survival. I have been captured before though when I was vastly outgeared and outnumbered. The guys who captured me were bandits, not just murderers. I did end up dying because one of them had an itchy trigger finger but I don't think it was the intent of the rest of the group to murder me. After all, they had shot me in the leg then 3 of them went on a 10 minute journey to get me a splint to fix my leg. I wasn't even disappointed when they killed me, at least it left me scratching my head with a smile on my face.

    Share your alcohol induce story.

I have never played DayZ drunk before but I do have a real life story involving alcohol and violence. If you are easily disgusted I'd suggest you stop reading now. I was once partying with some friends. We were playing a drinking card game (asshole maybe? can't remember exactly). I had already had a few highballs and was fairly inebriated when my friend challenged me to do a double shot of Bacardi 151 with him. That stuff is like jet fuel. I don't remember everything that happened after I took the shot but at some point I had passed out on the couch. My friend was a gym junkie and practiced jujitsu. He thought it would be a good idea to wake me up with some sort of crazy jujitsu kick to the chest. But he was pretty drunk himself so his kick missed my chest and hit me square in the face. He later told me (I don't remember) that I got off the couch and yelled "Why did you kick me in the face asshole". I do remember being more dizzy than I have ever been before or since then. I felt sick and needed a bathroom. There was one a few feet away but I was drunk and forgot about it so I proceeded to hug the wall and inch my way towards the bathroom at the other end of the house. By the time I got there I'd already forgotten about getting kicked. I remember having my head over the toilet and wondering why all this blood was coming out of my face. I felt no pain but there was copious amounts of blood, tears and vomit coming out of my face. Luckily my girlfriend was there to comfort me. I guess I passed out eventually and slept it off. The next day I sneezed and a big blob of coagulated blood came out of my nose. For a few months I could press on my face next to my nose and hear this clicking sound and a few of my teeth had this sort of numb sensation like when you get a shot at the dentist. Luckily I never felt any pain from this ordeal and everything looked fine and healed up properly. Moral of the story is don't be the first to pass out at a party.

    Smersh vests and helicopter crashes

I have a question as well. With the implementation of persistence, in my mind it seems like when a crash site spawns, the loot on the ground would persist even after the heli has despawned. So if someone were to go to a known crash site, would there be loot there from previous heli spawns even if there is not one there currently? If not, what am I missing? Is the loot somehow bound to the choppers so it despawns with them? Does it just despawn if nobody finds it or interacts with it? How does it work? Would someone kindly fill me in? Thanks.

    loot hoarding / tent security

I think I've made my point in a logical way. The only responses I see are from people defending an ineffective strategy and their desire to play in a self-centered manner. You enjoy moving all the guns you find so no one else can have them and I'll enjoy shooting you when I catch you doing it.
  15. Griz2

    loot hoarding / tent security

I don't require guns to have fun in DayZ. However, guns are a big part of the game. Everyone gets them as soon as they can. It's fine by me if you don't want to use them. It's not fine by me if you think you're the only person who should have them. I think you misread what I wrote. We are talking about ditching guns so other players can't have them, not hoarding them. I couldn't care less if people hoard stuff. At least it will be used by someone. What is there to assume? You ditch guns so other players can't have them. I see it as being a jerkoff move because it takes away from the experience of others while giving you much less of an advantage than you think. I'm not worked up at all. I'm only defending my point. It's not my intent to offend anyone here. Just pointing out that hiding guns gives you no real advantage when you think about it. All that time you spend hiding guns is more time spent in (probably) risky high loot areas, whereas if you just leave them you could take what loot you want and be miles away before anyone else is likely to find those guns. Also, many otherwise friendly players, including myself, will go out of our way to kill players we see doing this. Hide the guns if you like but I don't think it will help you at all.

    loot hoarding / tent security

I don't see this game as a survival simulator or a realism simulator. If it was, there wouldn't be zombies everywhere and the safest thing to do would be to run into the forest, live off the land and stay away from any area that other survivors are likely to be. At the end of the day, it's just a game and you're still trying to justify taking away from other players' experience to fulfill your own requirements. To me it's no different than KoSing everyone you see or hacking. You give nothing back, just take for yourself. And as I mentioned before, it's just a game. It's no big deal if you die. Take some risks, it's more fun when you do. I think the chances of you passing up a gun and another player actually finding it and killing you with it are much smaller than, say, glitching off stairs or a ladder or something, but you don't avoid those. Play the game as you wish, you paid for it. Just don't expect me to respect your playstyle if you do dickish things. Hiding every gun you come across so others can't have them because of the miniscule chance that you may be shot with them negatively affects other players' experience. There's no legitimizing that. We have all looted airfields, police stations, etc. only to find that every scrap of ammo or weaponry has been looted/dumped. Nobody likes that. I'm usually a friendly player but I'd go out of my way to kill someone I caught doing that, as would many other players. You might even say that doing so actually increases your chances of being shot by others :P

    loot hoarding / tent security

I'm not usually a KoS person and typically play the hero style. I carry guns to deal with zombies or to deal with players if they decide to be threatening. The way I play the game helps other players. The way you play the game takes away from their experience to benefit nobody but yourself. Sure, you have the right to play the way you like. But I won't respect you for it. It's a cheap thing to do and if you go out of your way to hide things so other players can't have them then I think you're taking the game way too seriously. Why is everyone so paranoid about other players? Worst case scenario is that someone else kills you but then you're fully geared up again in a matter of hours/minutes, provided some jerk hasn't hidden all the damn loot...

The People of DayZ (What Makes You Special?)

I typically play as a survivor/hero. Very rarely I may hunt people but that's only for pvp and I don't like to do it too much because I don't like to be a dick. I don't mind killing people, I just prefer to have a reason to do it. I'm not great at pvp. My internet connection is terrible and my frames aren't the best so I can't really compete. I do love a good close quarters shootout once in a while though. My best killstreak is 3. Terrible, I know. This was on one of my more bloodthirsty days. The first guy was some barely geared fool standing in the middle of Novo (I think? The NE town with the big church in the middle of the town square. I'm terrible with town names). I had lit glowsticks in the church to attract people while I waited for them to investigate so I could snipe them. The guy showed up at the church then stood dead still in front of it long enough for me to take him out with the Mosin.. The second guy was much more fun and actually came after me. I was in some small apartment building on the stairs and saw someone run by the window outside. I yelled at him then he turned around and burst through the door with a double barrel. I emptied my sks in his general direction, hitting him a few times but not killing him. I sprinted to the top of the stairs and drew my .357. He comes up the stairs and we blast each other. My legs are broken and I see something else run up the stairs so I crawl into a room, thinking it was his buddy or something. I then drew my 9mm pistol and emptied it into the thing chasing me. Turns out it was just a zombie haha. I was nearly dead and bleeding out so I bandaged and started back down the stairs. Found the guy dead on the steps. I was much better armed than him but he put up a good fight. The last guy was some fresh spawn standing in a firestation. Not sure if he was afk or desynced or what, but he didn't respond so he got blasted. Sorry, got a bit off-topic there. But yeah, I usually prefer to help everyone I come across. I take big risks and being a nice guy often gets me killed but I don't mind. When I find someone who doesn't murder me as soon as they see me and we go on to have an adventure it makes all the past deaths worth it. I always try to carry a few pistols and spare ammo and mags so I can give them to fresh spawns when I find them.

    loot hoarding / tent security

Just sort of seems like douchebaggery to me. How can you be so paranoid about dying in a video game that you would hide all the nice things just so others can't have them? I see no problem with hoarding stuff because you might need it later, but this goes too far. I will go out of my way to give an undergeared player a gun even if it puts myself at risk. If you seriously dislike other players this much you might as well play single player offline games or something. inb4 "that's my playstyle don't judge me" argument

    A story and a question.

If you're still at NEAF and dehydrated, there's a pond directly behind where the ATC building used to be, roughly behind where the new building is now. I've also noticed that eating many foods such as fruit and vegetables restores some water, though I don't know exactly how much. I know there's a chart on a site somewhere that lists exactly how much energy/water certain foods will give you but I can't remember where I saw it.

    No sound in-game post 0.50

Sometimes I lose sound in-game after I disconnect and log back in. For example, sound is working fine, server restarts, I get disconnected and rejoin the server, no more sound. I close and restart the game which always fixes it. Maybe try that. Also if anyone knows of a reason/fix for my problem I'd appreciate the info. It would be nice not to have to restart the game each time I lose sound.

    Mosin & Heli Crash Sites

Has anyone been finding SMGs in the police stations? I think I may have found one in a police station a few months ago and I have found a few in police cars before they disappeared, but haven't seen any SMGs since then. I have recently found both 15 and 30 round mags for them in the police stations recently but no SMGs and the mags are rare. I always hold on to the mags hoping to find the gun but never do.

The Biggest Word To The Wise

Playing Dayz is kind of like dating. You go into it with a positive attitude and good intentions and you usually leave bitter, jaded, handcuffed and at the mercy of a sadist. But if you ever want to find that special someone that makes all the struggles worthwhile you must continue to trust people, knowing that it could very well lead to your demise. For when you finally find that person who won't break your heart (or legs) you will feel that all the failures of the past were not in vain.
  24. He makes a good point here. I never KOS unless it's fairly obvious that someone wants to do the same to me. I live for the player interactions. Be they good or bad. The rush from murdering someone doesn't last long, and I think I'd tire of it quickly. On the other hand, you never know what to expect when meeting other players. You are at each others mercy. It's exciting. Sure, sometimes you get shot in the face, but the times that you don't it's that much more rewarding. I have been captured by players before. Rather than just straight up killing me they talked with me, hurt me, healed me, joked with me. They eventually killed me but it was worth the fun. I've also met some really awesome people who I ended up traveling with and talking to for hours, just from chance encounters. If I'd murdered them on sight, I would have missed out on that.

Watched some of your vids. Really enjoyed them. The accent, the soundtracks, the antics, all great. Surprisingly good videos. You earned a sub from me. Hope to see some more videos soon (more Silly Bang Man or Jay Zed: Fruit Vendor would be good).
