Haha, subtle and probably true :) -
Rocket standing down from Dayz by end of year
jan3sobieski replied to Hetstaine's topic in General Discussion
I agree. By the time his new project is up and running with a playable alpha (maybe 2016-2017), DayZ SA will most likely be played to death, so good timing. -
Rocket standing down from Dayz by end of year
jan3sobieski replied to Hetstaine's topic in General Discussion
This is what I feel is happening/happened: - Dean develops DayZ mod for Arma II - BI recognizes it could be a standalone game and incentivizes Dean to be the lead designer, he accepts. - Dean gets a team to work on the SA - Since BI is not sure about how many units they'll be able to sell, they advise releasing an early access version. (To see what interest is out there) - Dean's team rework the RV3 engine to suit the SA better, Early access goes live. - millions of ppl buy the early access. Money rolls in. - Dean realizes he can't implement everything he wanted in the game due to engine limitations. His team advises him on what's possible and what's not. - Since reworking the game fundamentally (new engine) is not plausible: - Dean decides to move on, take the money he made and put it into his own studio. Future: - Dean creates a new game studio, hires a team - The new project will probably be another survival simulator with a completely new engine that can actually accommodate everything he wanted. - The engine will be either bought from another developer or developed in-house<-- doubtful) - Since he won't have enough money, he will most likely start a kickstarter campaign or early access. In it: - Dean will most likely reference DayZ as his creation to get money for his new project, but he will outline DayZ's flaws and how he won't make the same mistakes again. - People will support his new project. Most will stop playing DayZ and move over to his new project. - DayZ SA will be finished and released but only the most dedicated players will continue playing it. - Continuous development of DayZ will slowly stop as BI will notice servers are slowly dissapearing and there is less and less interest. -

I've died probably 20 times since I got this SA in Dec and 90% of the time I re-spawned in Electro. Couple of times in Solnichniy and once in Kamenka. So I can confirm it is extremely random. Every time I watch someone stream they re-spawn in Solnichniy though. -

Are you sure it isn't something else? I'm running 2x gtx480's reference design on an i7-920 (old architecture) and i get 30 fps in cities too. What resolution are you running it at? -
What maps would you want in the Standalone?
jan3sobieski replied to Draco122's topic in General Discussion
I would love to see the little Russian piece of land between Poland and Lithuania, it's where Kaliningrad is. This would be the location -
...or until the server randomly respawns you on the beach again... with nothing.

I have an idea for helping with the KOS problem. Rocket should read.

They're not telling me to shoot everyone but with the game in its current state, that's the easiest thing to do. I've been playing the game for almost two weeks now and have never run into a friendly player yet unless it was a bambi and even then they weren't friendly, they just knew they didn't have the upper hand, so they left. And here you are again, telling me how I should play the game. -
Wow, what an honorable player.

Yes, PvP should be in the game. It's an essential part of the game and the experience. But unless this KoS mentality has any drawbacks, there is no reason not to do it. It's just easier to KoS. So if a karma/stress/conscience/whatever system is a no go, then give people options, like PvP and PvE servers. To me, it's more of an issue of trying to enjoy the game I purchased. But with this constant KoS'ing, I can't. The only way to play is to adapt to playing the game the way others want me to. Because it is their OPINION that that's how the game should be. Well, my opinion and apparently hundreds of others who play is that the game should be more than that. [edit] Please see the post below mine. That's the problem. "Just how i like to play games." Well, I like to play them differently. Do I have a choice? Not really. -

Yes, we know about those riots. But you should elaborate why they started in the first place. Police brutality and unfair (in many opnions) judgement in favor of the police force. Then a bunch of a-holes started riots and 58 ppl died. (BTW, they didn't respawn) Everything was squelched after the US military was called in. End of crisis. Even though I don't support the rioters, they did it because they had a reason to. Unfair treatment. A lot of KoS'ers here just kill others for fun or out of boredom. No real agenda. If you don't believe me, read someone's response 4 posts above this one. -

If you didn't read what the 'death penalty' answer was in regards to, they you're the one who should shut the hell up as you obviously have no idea what you're talking about. Nobody suggested anything like that for the game. -

Yes, and as you can see and hear HERE in one of his latest dev blogs, He wants to introduce the "destroyed" condition of items into the game to shift away from the shoot on sight mentality. He obviously sees the problem with what the game's become. He says "I think this is really, really key aspect that we're actually adding...[talks about inventory] ...and this combined with the restraint mechanic is going allow us to make some end roads on this basic sort of shoot on sight mentality, because if you shoot a player there is the real danger of destroying the items they have on them." -

That's funny, now you're arguing that KoS'ing is ok because the game doesn't have to be authentic. That's going against all the other KoS's argue. That this is a sandbox game and they should be able to do whatever they want as they would in reality. -

That's funny. Now you don't want realism. Every other KoS "problem thread" I've been to listed realism as one of the undermining reasons to keep KoS the way it is. "Because in real world when society breaks everyone could just KoS", what a load of BS. In reality you would be able to KoS. Of course you could. But you'd eventually run out of things to kill because in the real world, your "enemies" or "targets" don't just magically respawn. -

Nothing stops you or anyone from KoS'ing with a change like this. It would only have some effects on you. Just like when a zombie draws blood from you, you have a chance to become sick. It's the same thing. What you do is walk it off, maybe treat your would with alcohol. It won't kill you. -

That's a nice quote. You're trying to show this image of people who are weak, starving, no water almost dying. And yet, the people who KoS are more like this, and proud of it. Posted 07 January 2014 - 02:59 PM friendly neighbourhood watch... to be fair..he tried to run away.... I don't see anyone starving here, they're all happy and healthy and in the face of this impending "doom" you mention, they don't look like what you describe? or am i wrong? Do you see impending doom here? I don't. They killed this guy in cold blood and their explanation for it was that he tried to run. Sounds like psychopaths to me, not "starving" survivors. This guy didn't even have a sack of potatoes, in fact he didn't have anything. -

So are you. Murderers get the death penalty and they never do it again. But this is a game, so they can keep doing it over and over again and then they argue that it's their right to. -

Can you please show me where does the Rocket himself says the game is designed for "hardcore players who...." ? Because if you can't then you're just pulling $hit out of your a$$. You're saying that because that's what YOU WANT the game to be. -
I have an idea for helping with the KOS problem. Rocket should read.
jan3sobieski replied to Rzach's topic in General Discussion
Why? Because we want the game to be as realistic as possible, right? You want KoS? You got it because that's realistic. You know what else is realistic? Everything he wrote in his original post. But no, you just refuse that part. You only want realism when it's convenient for you. -
Already frustrated, new player needs advice

Nice, another new player joining the game and learning that KoS is the only way to play. GG -
are people trying to make the SA to friendly?
jan3sobieski replied to dgeesio's topic in General Discussion
I agree but... The problem is that why is someone telling me how I should be playing the game? People who say: "you don't want to get KoS? Stay away from Balota and hide in the north". Well, wtf, did you somehow get special permissions to tell others how to play the game when you paid for your copy? I didn't see that anywhere, so why am I forced to play the game the way you like it? Why don't YOU go North and stay the f away from me? Why am I forced to play with people like you? I guess the real question is why the f do most people choose to play as a mindless psychopath. Boredom or mommy issues? My issue is with no options in this game. I say leave the game the way it is and label servers PvP. Those who enjoy KoS'ing can keep playing without anyone imposing any rules on them. But for others make the option to run servers where the host can add rules like "No PvP" and let others enjoy the game the way they want to. Everybody wins. Well, almost everybody, KoS'ers will have a lot less easy targets and will now only have to face each other. But that's good, isn't it? Unless they're scared because in reality they can only shoot at easy targets and their "meat" will no longer show up. Is that what scares them? -

That's how it is now because zombies are a joke and conditions are not really dangerous. -

jan3sobieski replied to dgeesio's topic in General Discussion
I don't know, you tell me. Seems to me, the KoS approach is present in hundreds of other games out there, whereas survival games with a huge map such as the one in DayZ actually doesn't exist elsewhere. Rust has a small map, L4D I won't even compare as that would be an insult, The Walking dead is just funny... and that's about it. Do you want me to list all the FPS/TPP games where the point of the game is to just shoot/kill other players?
