    new player question!

thirsty in red means you are dying of thirst, you must drink a lot to even get to yellow. The food and water system is kind of hard to understand for new players, luckily this forum has a guy called Merino who will explain everything to you if you take the time to watch his very informative videos: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/159251-merinos-in-depth-video-guides-updated-jan-15th-understanding-sicknesses-and-surviving-poisoning/ Watch his guides on thrirst and hunger. Basically you must eat and drink a lot when you first spawn to attain healthy status. Once you are healthy eating and drinking becomes less of a pain. You must remember according to the lore of the game your character survived some traumatic ordeal like a shipwreck (when spawn on beach) or a helicopter crash (when spawn inland) and is in very bad shape when you spawn. So your first priority is to sort out your health when spawning.

Curious about peoples 'Rules of Engagement'

never kill bambi's unless they attack with fists. Always offer assistance, food, compasses, can openers and saline bags. Players with melee weapons same deal. Armed players: If in a pvp zone like electro or bases/airfields, shoot on sight. That is my rule all though i don't stick to it. If i can I get into a position where i have a drop on someone and then explain to them that I am armed and that I can kill them but I would rather not and that I will reveal my position once they put their weapons on their backs. Then I have a chat and go on my way. However this isn't always possible and then I am afraid someone has to die. If I am in a high loot area like school/firehouse/prison/baracks and you have the audacity to spawn near me while you do your dirty server hopping I will kill you without thought or remorse. If a player armed with a melee weapon tries to attack me or my group I will make him strip naked and make him run for his life, that is if he is still alive. So to sum up, I am not friendly, I only tolerate so much, but I do enjoy helping people and interacting with people a little more than what I enjoy killing people.
  3. thanks for all your videos and experiments bro, it's required viewing for anyone; veteran and bambi. hero and bandit.

My Kit: What can i improve on ?

If you want to engage over long range: MP handguard, MP butstock, ACOG, bipod (only deploy bipod when prone) If you want to fight close range: CQB butstock, MP or RIS handguard (flashlight if you have RIS), Tn3 or M68 RDS, and no bipod. The QCB gives you the fastest movement when when looking though your scope but really bad accuracy. If you play with a group the CQ setup can work but you won't hit anything further away than 150 meters at most. Other than that as already said don't carry food, you only really need one canteen if any. Also an ammo box full of ammo is a waste of space. Just rock 3x60 clips and four piles of ammo. If you need more ammo than that to get the job done you'll be dead anyway. Also you need a fully stocked med pack, throw everything out except the bandages and IV, put the bandages at the top of your inventory and fill the medpack with saline packs, iv's, charcoal tabs, antibiotics or alcohol. Also a sidearm is kind of a waste, if you have to have one though make it a magnum.

Problem with interacting with servers (when in game)

This happens to people who have nested containers. IE backpacks inside backpacks inside backpacks etc, or protection case inside protection case inside protection case etc. I have never stacked my inventory like this so can't confirm but people have been reporting this on the bug tracker. Just to be safe I do not carry any containers, and i think even an ammo box full of ammo might give you problems so i just carry 3x 60 round clips and about 100 loose ammo in my inventory to avoid carrying too much loot. Also I don't know if it is my imagination but I forwarded port 2302 on my router and it feels like servers are more responsive and I am less prone to suffer desync allthough it still happens. Hope you find something useful in this post lol.
