Sounds like an issue between steam and your pc, do your other steam games work or is dayz your first steam game? Try to re-install steam. Also, it'd help to know what os you are on.

Pretty much get shot at if you have your gun out and you're running around, but this sucks because what if you're just scavenging and watching out for zombies/other bandits? -
DAYZ is not your game man, you probably need to go back to dungeons and dragons. There's no way you can "fuck up" when playing dayz because everything you do is pretty much something that would happen IRL. Getting killed because you are a scrub or unlucky is part of the "roleplaying" experience. And you're forgetting the game is in ALPHA, there isn't much room for roleplaying right now because there's not a lot of features. Zombies are broken. Once people gets guns, ammo, and food the only thing left to do is PVP. ( because zombies are broken ).

I've had this issue ever since battleye got implemented, but I also i have high ping spikes to ( from 18-39 ping to 200-800 ping ) so that could be the problem. Also whenever I play with a buddy its 10x worse, I see his character running in place, difficult to interact with inventory, etc. -

I would upgrade the CPU, which also means you're gonna want to upgrade the mobo as well. I have a radeon 7790, which is inferior to yours, and dayz is still playable with no micro-stutters. -
I saw that the patch notes included "Design: Player corpses should no longer despawn upon disconnect" Does this mean we can kill people and they won't disappear when they disconnect?

1. It's not how the game is meant to be played; you're supposed to find loot legitimately. 2. It's gives the server hopper an unfair advantage- for example; imagine a server hopper and their safe spot is the bathrooms inside the barracks at balota. Another player looting the same barracks checks the bathroom and finds nothing, then moves on to the bunks next door. 2 seconds later server hopper appears in the bathroom, proceeds to do his/her run, runs into player from earlier, kills him. See how that's unfair? -
