5 min cooldown for switching servers is way to little
Ghostflux replied to smoq2's topic in General Discussion
It's not important why people switch servers, it however is important to know that it's unlikely that you'll never see this timer even if you're playing legit. I can think of numerous reasons why I would want to switch servers without the purpose of server hopping though. It's also a mistake to think that 15 minutes can't be lethal, by the time you switch servers you could already be hungry and close to starvation. I would like to state the opposite. If you're not switching for loot, you will still very likely pick up items in the first 15 minutes. What makes you think the opposite I simply don't understand. Perhaps this is your behaviour, but it clearly isn't representative of any average. There's two things that apply when it comes to navigation. One is needing to know where you are, the other is needing to know which direction you are going. The coast provides you with both of them. Then there's the fact that civilisation is always more common when near water. Without a map or compass, it makes sense for people to follow the coastline. Which will pretty much always get them somewhere no matter which direction they go to. It also serves as a meeting place for people until they venture off to the highly populated areas in the north area. -
The point here was that many people complain about how third person is unrealistic and allows us to look around corners. Without actually realising that first person in this game allows for far less situational awareness than would be realistic as well. This wouldn't be nearly as much of a problem if we had the stance system similar to ARMA 3.

There's nothing wrong with respawning loot every 10 minutes, as long as the loot doesn't respawn all at once and has less chance of spawning items, when there are already items that have spawned before the most recent respawn.

Ghostflux replied to smoq2's topic in General Discussion
Introducing item pickup delays would be quite stupid as well as it works directly against the goal of the game, which is to survive. If you're a newbie, and you would encounter this penalty, that would mean you would die. It also suffers from the problem that it affects all players and not just those that server hop intentionally. You could of course make some items protected, and others not protected. But that would be a huge inconsistency in gameplay that would give a lot of confusion. All of your other ideas suffer from the same problem, which is confusion. You can't just have random spawns upon log out in one area while it doesn't happen in the other area. You would have to be informed about this, and it breaks immersion. As it would notify you if it's a high-loot location, which directly contradicts the idea of finding items. Spawning at anywhere else than the sea isn't a bad idea, but it's far harder to navigate if you are new to the game. -
Let's be honest here, if it was real life we'd be able to use a mirror to look at places our eyes can't reach. Considering most households have multiple mirrors. Otherwise it wouldn't be too hard to craft a basic mirror from other household materials. Or you could stand on your toes to look over a fence that is taller than yourself. Many inventive things aren't possible ingame. And if you're shooting from the grass, you're not limited to only 3 poses. It's better surely. But I still feel that being locked to first person feels more clunky than it should.

It's less, but obviously not solved. The solution is real simple though, just let zombies spawn inside of high-loot buildings, and in the areas around them. If you try to server hop anywhere near those buildings, you're going to get mauled before you can even spawn properly. Of course if you still intend to server hop, you must now not only face a horde of zombies, but you'll also have to expose yourself to players outside. Which means server hopping could be countered pretty easily.

I don't understand how you think this is a good idea. And I would honestly suggest that you don't compare DayZ and WarZ. WarZ is utter garbage and many things about that game are an insult to consumers, it is nothing more than a rip-off. If DayZ would look at that game as it's inspiration, it would only be a detriment to the development of the game. Your solutions. 1. Absolutely unacceptable, people paid money to play the game. There's a difference between a penalty timer and quite simply locking people out of the game. You want people playing, not looking at some timer that wouldn't even be the most optimal solution to the problem. If this were ever to be in the game, I would probably uninstall this game immediately. And I'd be convinced that it would absolutely kill the playerbase. 2. This could be abused as a teleport to the coastal regions, thus a pretty bad idea. 3. What if the last played server is unavailable? Then you'd have to face all the consequences for no good reason. Again this is a very bad idea. Please think before you come up with such draconian measures, the current system will work fine once things like respawning loot and more zombies are in the game. -
I am honestly disgusted by Twitter and Reddit as a communication medium. They both somehow manage to be popular and yet such a pain in the ass to read. It's truly a shame that the forums aren't more frequently visited by the developers.

This game is an alpha, your argument is invalid.

The Map is smaller when compared to Day Z Mod's Chernarus
Ghostflux replied to AG-D.Wright's topic in General Discussion
Just because it may feel smaller, doesn't mean it is. I'm pretty sure it's quite a bit bigger with the northern area included. -
Is there no force effect to getting shot?
Ghostflux replied to sav112g's topic in General Discussion
Soldiers have done interviews about what it's like being shot. Of course the amount of stopping power depends on the weapon, but even when shot multiple times soldiers would often just keep running due to the adrenaline. They wouldn't even be aware that they were shot until much later when they saw their clothes soaked in blood. Bullets don't push nearly as much as you see in the movies, you'll be falling over dead long before that happens. -
Are new patches tested by the Dev Team before-hand?
Ghostflux replied to [email protected]'s topic in General Discussion
If you've read the changelog, you should have known that patches are normally tested, but this patch was unexpectedly pushed to fix a major critical issue. We were warned of potential instability. -
Why aren't there 'fat' characters in DayZ?
Ghostflux replied to TheMachine's topic in General Discussion
To be honest, the reason there are no fat people in DayZ because they are either dead, or have lost weight due to the massive shortage of supplies. Just surviving would take up all your calories. That however doesn't mean that people that are already dead can't be fat. I would like to see fat zombies some day. -

The ruined food and water supply after beeing shot punishes the "victim"
Ghostflux replied to wuffi (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Don't travel alone. Your chances of survival increase when teaming up. Also the food will only get damaged if the bullet hits the food. -

I kind of dislike the idea of having to spend enormous amounts of time just to navigate with a clunky interface/control scheme. It sounds fun, but in reality it would be a lot of frustration when you accidently knock an object into the wrong angle again, which means you'd have to start over when positioning it. -

I generally like the idea of having physics on the objects so you can build much like that game. But one thing that is absolutely essential is the ability to work using a grid. Being able to snap objects to both world/relative directions would be very appreciated. -
This game isn't a competitive shooter. People have advantages over the other all the time. Luck isn't a bad thing when it's not competitive.

If you like dying, come to BEREZINO.
Ghostflux replied to Johnny Depth's topic in General Discussion
So far I've only seen you post derogatory comments, and yet you're the one complaining about stupidity? Perhaps you'd like to get off your high horse and actually discuss things instead of holding a monologue. -

Then why did you buy the alpha if I may ask, you seem to have a rather low tolerance for the things that are inevitably going to happen in an alpha. The way the game is built steers the mentality of the players playing it. Yet the barking at Call of Duty isn't really all that useful, even if you meant it as an exaggeration. Ambushing people as bandits/hero hybrid, without going KoS has been very succesful these last few days. We would go to the coastal regions, and ambushed any players that were either in fewer numbers or weren't armed. If they would comply, we would give them some food or gear and we helped them get around. Of course if they didn't comply, we'd shoot them down. From my experience there were plenty of people that were willing to listen, and some even enjoyed the fact that we went and interacted with them without killing them. On topic: Earlier today, our group of 3 were just overlooking Berezino, about to target practice on zombies(we weren't really looking for players). We suddenly see a zombie running towards the woods near us just as one of us wanted to take a shot at the zombie. We move closer to investigate, before we even know it 2 armed guys started shooting at our group. They were quick to die, only injuring one of us. It was just self-defense. -
I don't see a reason to replace anything when you can just add a larger variety of clothes.

Painting the SKS is currently not yet in the game. Not sure why you trust some random website instead of testing it in game.

I played a couple of hours yesterday, and didn't encounter any gamebreaking bugs. I would not want them to do a rollback unless they confirm the large majority of the people can't play.

Disagreed, In real life, a military helmet is made to protect you from handgun fire and shrapnel. A straight shot into the head by any large rifle will probably penetrate and kill you. Of course if the object just grazes the helmet, it might ricochet. But still, by the sheer impact of the object, you could still find yourself knocked out injured by a concussion.

Cheater / WallHacker caught on tape. Hope this stuff gets ironed out
Ghostflux replied to Ponder (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I don't even see why it's a hacker. You just got shot by somebody who was in a room you didn't check. That's your own fault.
