Hiya. Are there ways hosting a server can make money, or are they simply a money sink? Thanks.

[Opinion] The Value of Base Building?
Ugly (DayZ) replied to [DGN] Johnny's topic in General Discussion
This is a fantastic thread. Great discussions. personally, I think that building a base from scratch should be a huge undertaking, needing multiple people to put the second floor up (sheet metal is heavy AF!), but a single story, walled-in compound should be achievable with a lot of dedication by a single person. walls could be sheets of metal, logs, or something as flimsy as canvas/tarps (so zombies/animals won't see you, but not much use against human players looking to break in. hell, you should be able to stack bricks if you have enough. hopefully 8 day persist can be balanced properly. i think bases big and small should be a part of the game. -
A few thoughts on.. (New Anim System, Bug Fixing, etc)
Ugly (DayZ) replied to Hicks_206 (DayZ)'s topic in News & Announcements
hi DayZ team! Just want to say I really,,,,,,,,, REALLY appreciate the new updates! Even if the news is "we're delayed", I very much appreciate being kept in the loop! Thank you! -
Hi. Curious if anyone has any information on the 'single player', 'offline' mode that was spoken about last summer (2015) its almost summer again, so after 8 months have we heard any talk about the mod's status / have they even started it etc. although some people may find the idea of playing 'solo' (offline) boring/ counter to the nature of DayZ, if you feel the need to have that discussion here I discourage it. just want some info on the status of that mode, if there is any news out there.

Please update me on single player mod progress
Ugly (DayZ) replied to Ugly (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Done that, haven't found anything besides news from last summer. was curious if I have missed anything. guess there is no news atm. -
Suggestion: Tell us how we died. Any logic behind no indication of what killed us? if i got shot in real life, I would be cognizant of the incredible pain bursting through my head/heart/stomach. If a zombie bit me to death, I would know why I was dying. If I got hit by a bus, trapped in a fire, drowned… I would KNOW what killed me. Why is there no such thing in DayZ? From an immersion stand point, for the reasons I've already pointed out there is no reason not to tell me how I had died. It doesn't have to be much. Don't tell me the players name, just tell me "You Are Dead. You were shot in the back." or "You are Dead. You died of starvation/sickness/illness/heart attack" whatever. Some reasons why I have heard this is not currently implemented, are ARMA II doesn't support it. What a shitty reason.

Load into a game. Before the city is even finished loading, I am being attacked by a zombie. 1) I logged out safely on the third floor of the building 2) The zombie attacking me was beneath me, then teleported up to the third floor (the door to the room is closed) I would like some kind of system that makes you invisible/invincible to zombies for like, 1 minute after you load, to give the servers time to catch up. Or perhaps until you take your first step, you cannot be hurt/seen/smelt by a zombie. It's not gaming the system, it's not an unrealistic game aspect, it is simply acknowledging the fact that you are vulnerable while the game finishes loading. I don't see how a simple system like this would be able to be abused. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go find a new wool coat.

what? There is already a wait time for server hopping. Your argument makes no sense

1: Are door states random? i.e. it used to be that an open door meant someone had been in there. is that still the case, or has that changed? 2: How does item respawn work? (Persistant) Cheers!

I feel .51 has increased my playability yes. Good job devs. ps almost all settings low/off, same as before

By the way Devs... GREAT JOB on the new patch! Everything is so much more fluid now, lag for me has noticeably reduced (most of the time), cities don't stutter along like they used to, character movement seems improved. And my character has stopped resetting, so I am finally able to test the game a little better. yay!
-
Edit: Changes my post as some people are already confused about my situation. Loaded up my game after a month or so, had a new character. No problem. Played for about a half an hour, had to log off. Logged back on, new character. Played with new character for a while. Had to log off. Came back, new character. Start testing: Every restart is a new character. So... I give myself 5 minutes between server changes, every server I join makes me a fresh spawn. On the "public" hive, characters are not saved to a server, are they?

Fresh spawn after every server change
Ugly (DayZ) replied to Ugly (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
It happens from time to time, but this is happening 100% of the time to me since I updated. -
My character is getting reset everytime I join a server. 4 thumbs down.

Fresh spawn after every server change
Ugly (DayZ) replied to Ugly (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Not server hopping for loot, if thats what you're implying. Do be honest I am bug testing this, which is why I'm restarting all the time. -
So newpatch (vehicles), my new spawn has been running around looking for anything... And I have not seen a single item. No pens, no notes, no books.... Bugged?
-
Yeah I just found my first item. I ran all through Berezino and didn't see a thing. Not one single item.

I propose that the movement in this game needs a major overhaul, as right now it feels way too clunky, and also completely unnatural (sp?). Observation: While trying to circle strafe a zombie to melee, to this observer, it feels as though I am trying to pilot an AT-ST, the 2-legged Walker robots from the Star Wars franchise When you're fighting off a zombie with a hammer (fire axe...), disregarding the lag, the way your character moves around in these dexterity-heavy situations does not feel natural, nor intuitive. I feel encumbered, all my movements feel weighed down, sluggish, in a way that cannot be accounted for by simple lag. There is no natural flow to my characters' movements. IMO, they (BI) are A) Somehow hampered by the ARMA engine (an opinion I've heard often) B) Trying to recreate a "real" feeling, which in my opinion they have failed at, in this particular instance. Melee is going to be huge in this game, or at least it should be. Let's let the Developers know how we feel, and that as alpha testers, our feedback is that the movement system needs an overhaul. Keep the conversation civil! Lets compare this game real quick one of my favorites, TF2. TF2 is nice and fluid. When I need to change directions with a melee weapon in my hands, I can reliably perform the movement I intend, unlike in DayZ where I can get hung up seemingly on my own feet. When you walk with a weapon raised in DayZ, you take these really dumb steps foward. That is the best way I can describe it, as though you are taking baby steps. Thoughts?

Server down and i loose all my stuff

Yet some players are against a death notification such as "You were shot in the back" lol

Some movement mechanics need a major tweak (before 1.0)
Ugly (DayZ) replied to Ugly (DayZ)'s topic in Suggestions
Hey Fuckface I'm just down the road from you… (Cowtown) In all seriousness though, do you not agree that the movement in this game (DayZ) is flawed? If you notice I did no recommend rocket jumping or double jumps, all I suggested was that in most other games my movement has a fluidity that us lacking in DayZ. also thanks for the correction on Mechs. You dork. (hugs) -
Give this man (OP) a job! this seems like a useless step, HOWEVER it would also be a great addition to the game. Hold out gum to your friends, they can each take one (or not)

What do I do with stones? aka How do I make a fireplace?
Ugly (DayZ) posted a topic in General Discussion
How do I make a fireplace using stones? I have a pile of 7 stones in front of me. What do I do with them? I need to craft a fire place kit using sticks and rags. and then place rocks onto that. Yours, Furiously defending this house I'm in with these rocks. -
Aes Sedai? Anything is possible, under the light.

Dean is making it sound as if certain, pre-announced features are the making solely of cross-platform support only recently announced. IN fact, now that I remember, it seems to me as if the 64 bit servers were what was letting the respawning and permanence of loot. Just seems odd to "announce" something for a second time. He is making it sound as if the PS4 is the reason 64 bit servers are possible.
