What is the most important skill to learn to succeed in DayZ?
stolenbanjos replied to autoloon's topic in General Discussion
You have to be oS, to be KoS'd. If you don't see me, this "skill" is totally irrelevant. -
What is the most important skill to learn to succeed in DayZ?
stolenbanjos replied to autoloon's topic in General Discussion
Patience, situational awareness, stealth -- these are all great tips and blend into the same kind of principle of not getting caught off guard. I hardly ever spot a player in game crouched and moving slowly from cover to cover, because they are crouched and moving slowly from cover to cover. This movement is sleathy, saves energy, and keeps those pesky zeds from running to you and blowing your cover. -
Hey I just met you and this is DayZ I don't have a gun yet So don't kill me maybe

Why does everything get ruined when you get shot?
stolenbanjos replied to Zjasuu's topic in General Discussion
I believe the plan is to localize it eventually so bullets only damage items in the area of impact. -
From my understanding, it would be a waste of time to optimize the game now BECAUSE they have more stuff to add. If they optimize now, they will have to optimize again later, so it would be redundant and unproductive work. Anyone else confirm this?

Have Zombies Always Followed You?

That's a great idea, good fun for target practice too. -
Fix The North West Airfield (Nwaf) [Civilianize]

This, any commercial airport would be close to a big city, not in the NW. -
I Think I'm Too Trusting And Nice.

I meet lots of friendly players, but not in Elecktro. -
Yes! My friend accidentally hit me with 1-2 rounds from an M4 point blank as he was alt-tabbing back into his game. I was healthy, bandaged/cleaned wounds, and I was back to normal in minutes.

Getting PoS'd is easy to avoid. No need to nerf punching for everyone, when some players just need to buff their own critical thinking.

The SKS is filling a hole in the current arsenal, a semi-auto/medium range rifle. I'm stoked, it could be one of the most versatile guns up to this point, we'll see.

Problem With No Longer Spawning In/near Cherno
stolenbanjos replied to Timecharge's topic in General Discussion
Cherno being a ghost town isn't a "problem" as far as I am concerned. All the nubs are in Elektro, Cherno is tastier than ever. -
If carrying two primaries, you will drop the one in your hands everytime you USE or PICK UP anything else. Not worth it in my opinion unless you are already fully loaded and healthy, because you will constantly be dropping it to pick up loot and eat/drink and may lose it in the floor when you drop it. It's happened to me and my clan mates, use caution. Edit: You will also likely die before you use both of those primary weapons and their ammo, so just give one away to a friend and let the mosin guy do some spotting/sniping, while the M4 guy is on point/cqc. It takes about 1-2 seconds to switch weapons, and when you switch weapons you drop the one in hand too, so not ideal for a solo firefight anyways unless you are in a really safe spot.

The burlap sack + rope (+sticks) is already a major improvement over the bindle. I thought the bindle would've been awesome too, until I saw the majesty of the improvised backpack. Maybe a short one that works with tshirts/bandanas (6-8 slots, tshirt/bandana+sticks) to use in a pinch until you find another pack or a burlap sack/rope.

Berry Nodes? Little white "plant bulbs/pods" in the forest...
stolenbanjos posted a topic in General Discussion
Has anyone else seen these little white "plant bulb/plant pod" looking things scattered in the forest? I saw over two dozen of them on the ground travelling throught the woods nw of Balota. I think they are supposed to be our berry nodes... Sorry I don't have a pic. I thought I was getting lots of screenshots, but apparently not. I'll grab a screenshot next time I pass by one, but someone else please confirm if you have seen them or can grab a pic before me. -

Ok, never played mod and hadn't noticed them in SA until today. Thanks. -
To the ones saying guns and ammo are impossible to find.

Since last patch, I think I am getting geard quicker. Fewer people in the west now? The base near Pavlovo and south in Zelenogorsk is loaded every time I stop in. -
I already know that DayZ will be one of the greatest games I ever play in my lifetime. I'd like to say thanks as well to Rocket and beans for the OP!

More zombies could mean silenced weapons > firearms in some scenarios if balanced properly. For instance, a guy with an M4 and a guy with a bow trade shots on a hardcore server. Both take cover and bandage but there are 2-3 zombies heading straight for the M4 guy. The guy with a bow (getting help from the zeds now) can find an opportunity to take more shots, or charge, while his opponent is distracted. He can run off and live another day. Either way, he quickly gets the advantage. Also, could be simply harder to locate people based on sounds of their weapons if you don't have visual contact.

Are they breaking DayZ as we know it?
stolenbanjos replied to Insannik's topic in General Discussion
More improv/silent weapons will balance the lack of miltary gear with more zombies. Bows > M4s when the zombie party starts from the gunfire. I can see it now, trade shots, take cover and bandage, except there are 2-3 zombies running towards the M4 guy now and they finish'em off or at least distract him for another shot from the bow, or a charge. -
Some Hero tips (from this forum and friends) that have helped me play hero without being made a sucker! -If you give a bambi a gun, only give them 1-2 rounds and take the rest of their ammo. Now the odds of a backstab are in your favor. -Do your hero thing, then gtfo. Don't band together after the first minute you meet and run to NWAF, get to know them for a while, ask for steam name if you plan to take a trip somewhere. Now the odds of getting baited, spotted by a bandit, or setup are in your favor. -Try to keep control all the time, keep LOS of your new "friends" and don't let them decide anything for you. -Don't be afraid to "test" your subject to gain his/her trust as long as you can control the situation. Turn your back, crouch, be ready to arm a weapon, and say you are rearranging your inventory but don't open the inventory screen. Keep an eye on them. Are they watching your back, or arming their axe and moving towards you to split your skull? Well, you get it by now - keep the odds in your favor by being in control and smart. Be doubtful at all times without seeming scared, once you let your guard down - you are asking for it. Some big tells if someone is baiting or looking to doublecross you -antsy movement, always moving within striking distance -always trying to control conversation or destination -they don't listen to you -long awkward pauses in direct/voip chat? They may be speaking with other people on TS This isn't "the way" to play hero, but it will save you a few respawns.

Anybody wish the SA was never released?
stolenbanjos replied to MakeThemListen's topic in General Discussion
Over time, the fickle people will either move on to another game, or learn to play Day Z without bitching about everything. I'm a noob, never played the mod, love this game, I "get it" and have 100+ hours so far. I would have eventually gotten Arma 2 and the mod without the SA, but it is here and I'm glad to be a part of it now. The SA is hot right now, everyone is trying it, but everyone isn't used to the early alpha game experience. The final communtiy that really sticks with this game to the end will likely have a lot less whiners and just be a bunch of badass hard knock survivors. Let's get there. -
Everyone that does these "now I'm KoS'ing threads" are just giving up on themselves and not willing to get better at being a hero/survivor. The less control of the situation you have, the more likely you will become bullet food. Heros don't run around with strangers and follow their plan, heros MAKE the plan and strangers follow them.

and don't forget the ski mask...for that classic bandit look
