  1. If the New Camera angles stop people from exploiting visually then my tits will be at a calm and wavy wobble. The masses can watch the back of their precious doodle bro avatar all day long taking up valuable screen real-estate until they realize there is no exploitable benefit. Curious to see how many on here cry for their 3rd person visual advantages under the guise of ........
  2. actually I'm 85 percent sure on one of his more recent videos (at one of the conferences) he was playing a bit in 1rst person. Even so when he is playing in 3rd as someone stated it is mainly for demo purposes.

    DayZero Thoughts

Nah not at all, thats been done to death and Rocket already has a legion of sausage riders for life. I'm grateful to the original Dayz team of course but this post is not about that. It's about Day Zero and I think they put a lot of great effort in to the mod.

    DayZero Thoughts

Podagorks is an amazing mod so hats off to the Day Zero team!!! First time I played I hooked up with 2 guys and kept accumulating survivors until we had a group of about 11 !!! Can you believe it? Everyone was taking screen shots because you just don't see that anymore. We travelled together, looted, chased down a bandit in near total darkness using flares, had an epic battle across the Sona island straight (water) and then gradually lost players to confusion and death, down to about 5 then server restart. I had not had so much fun since first playing DAyz, really I felt great about the whole game again in a new way. Podagorsk for the Win folks. If you haven't checked it out yet and are itching to play some dayz you owe it to yourself to try. There are 1rd person servers as well which is awesome. Framerates are better than I have ever experienced on Arma2 or DAyz . I have not yet been injured by a doorway or bush. Zombies are tough, they will kill you if you get sloppy. So these guys made this amazing way better optimized, way less glitchy mod in their spare time? hmmmmm. I see a bright future for these gentlemen. Edit: Also you have to get whitelisted so much less hackers, if any.
  5. 1rst person is a more true and hardcore way of playing, it mimics much closer to the way we see in real life. 3rd person uses a crutch of unrealistic vision to exploit and "make it easy on me" so yeah 1rst person is for more true hardcore players, the uber elite if you will. It must be hard to deal with that reality. But the brutal and self reflecting question that needs answering is: "why do I really like 3rds person?" answer: "because it's easier" so sometimes when people open up a part of ourselves that we don't like to think about and admit, we lash out and say "that guy is rude, I'm going to ignore what he said and stay in my comfort zone" Not really rude, just the cold hard truth and that can sting a little bit.
  6. I do have a challenge and a humble request to all 3rd person advocates. And I ask this with all humility and respect due to your preference to play 3rd person.... Please play a 1st person only server for 2 hours. Feel the difference in gameplay. (turn off head bob in settings and use alt key to look around ), no doubt you will be tapping the enter button as I was, but once you get over that urge and know that everyone on the server has the same vision... you'll get an insight as to why people push so hard for 1rst person. If you think there are no populated first person servers: try day zero podagorsk, or regular dayz zero, there are highly populated 1rst person only servers there. I think it's a fair ask as all players have been playing on 3rd person enabled servers for many many hours.
  7. This is true, people opinions are quite polarized and steadfast over the debate over 1rst vs 3rd person, I doubt any opinions have been swayed either way. From the polls and general sense of the replies, the hardcore fans with enthusiasm for the development of the game acknowledge that the issue needs some attention. I think most of the the 3rd person crowd can't seem to see what all the bother is about, they like 3rd for their own reasons and thats the end of it so it's frutrating to argue over it or imagine it being removed. For 1rst person advocates (myself included), the technical problems with 3rd person breaking the gameplay seem so obvious, it's frustrating to fathom those that indorse 3rd person gameplay.
  8. Hope you are not talking about my response above, because those sweeping massive generalizations were what I was responding to. ...and saying someone insulting for disagreeing with your bias and countering some ill conceived talking points sounds like butthurt to me.
  9. - player-player interaction ....(how so?)- encourages role playing ...(nonsense)- tactical overview, no tunnel vision ... ( you mean tactical exploit view enabled, is not tunnel at all, adjust your settings)- reflects natural self and souround awareness ....(by having a hovering camera behind your head?, use alt key to move your head around, like in real "natural" life)- no desorientation in buildings like with 1st person... (have never been disoriented inside a building, questioning your gaming skills)
  10. When a certain view point has privileged viewing abilities to see other players and zombies (3rd) at the detriment to the other view style (1rst), then yeah I'm the boss that says "thats not good work my son...we can do better" You sure about that? If you couldn't have the visual advantage of seeing over hills and around corners would you still be using that magical point of view? It's just a casual preference I suppose. Still no argument.
  11. sigggghhhhh,, ever think about checking the game options ? I figured it out in about 5 seconds.
  12. Yes you proved my point completely thank you. The best most intelligent argument is , "some people simply prefer it" This is not an argument it goes to my last point, it's just a crutch people are used to playing with . Vunerable, disconnected in 3rd person. I guess thats a reason somehow. I don't agree at all but is a 1rst real point for 3rd person. That uncomfortable feeling when using 1rst person is the same as the feeling when you take the training wheels off your bicycle for the first time. it's strange and scary at first but you get used to it and realize soon it is much better.
  13. Wow. Very well written and articulated. It's guys like you and Dslyecxi that put it into such rational and descriptive terms. I feel like just slapping people upside the head and telling them they are wrong, (which they are) , but you put it into terms that are really hard to counter. I am very interested to see an intelligent counter response to Heiduks post above. Here let me start out the compelling and cohesive counter argument: "I wanna see my guy running" " Everyone else it doing it so it must be good / budweiser is the best tasting beer" "how else will I camp the hospital roof in cherno?" "it's activated by default" "they had 3rd person in operation flashpoint soooo it must be good for dayz" "don't take away my crutch,,, i'm so used to it" "Dayz is not supposed to be a difficult game, it's only a game jeez"
  14. In hind sight we also used to know that the SA was to be released in 2012. Things have changed , they took time to make the game better,,, one of those things might be addressing the 3rd person exploit issue.
  15. Ahh I remember it too, just coming over from BF3 , I heard through a website about dayz. I had no idea about 3rd person so I played for like 2 weeks in 1rst person and it was the scariest, most intense game I had ever played. I never had a game that actually increased my pulse so much, it was visceral. I never felt a lack of situational awareness, nor I did really care about the physical appearance of my character, it was the apocalypse after all. The only thing that took getting used to was the aiming and ballistics. Then of course I hear about people talking about 3rd person, then I see a youtube video about a guy exploiting 3rd person vision from an ATC tower. Pretty much from then on I was forced into 3rd person because everyone else was exploiting, so why be at a disadvantage?? Now we are in this long circular thread and 3rd person enthusiasts can make no real reason to keep it in the game other than , it's more comfortable, and I need to see my backpack all game long. :)
  16. How about this: In 1rst person have a magic toggle button that zooms you out a bit to see more of your surrounding and make things less intense for the intense adverse. (I know there is the " - " button but no one seems to know about that.) In 3rd person lower the camera height to avoid being able to see over hills and walls In 3rd person lock the free look, (or when you use free look: it snaps into first person) Problem solved :) so my solution deals with making it easier for 3rd person players to use 1rst person by having a zoom out option to help with situational awareness and comfort over long durations, and also drastically reduces the the 3rd person exploits. agree? If not please explain.
  17. Yeah I don't really care if someone wants to play 3rd person and see themselves running for whatever reason (looks cool, is more comfortable, visually verify colour of pants, ect) it's just the exploits of having the all seeing magical hovering eye that makes the gameplay suffer.
  18. LOL it's true, I only read to Post #3 , that pretty much sums it up !!!
  19. removing 3rd person wouldn't budge the player base a solitary person. Everyone knows it's just an exploit/ crutch /comfort thing. After 20min of gameplay they would realize it's the only way to go.
  20. IMO 3rd person doesn't fix anything, it cheapens the gameplay and breaks the tension and fun. I know there are limitations to viewing 1rst person on a rectangular screen, but I believe those limitations far outweigh the unfair visual advantages gained by having a 3rd person omnipotent view of the landscape. If you want to have more situational awareness just press the " - " button on the keypad, although I never seem to need it. Use alt key to move the head around. Also I'm not an elitist, I just want the gameplay to be better for everyone. I'd like to make a list summing up the the talking points on either side, as of now the points for 3rd person seem pretty weak sauce other than "it's easier to see my surroundings" , "my guy looks so cool", "demonstrative purposes" , please add your reasons to the list.
  21. I'm please to see the animations look a fair bit more more smooth. And textures and lighting look great. Sad to see 3rd person,,, so sad. over all though, looks like they put in a lot of work on features and usability, great stuff!!
  22. I don't care about operation flashpoint, that was 10 years ago and game "progresses" over time , not hold on to the way it used to be just because,, well thats the way it used to be. I have no time for the operation flashpoint old guard talking points, you are welcome to keep rocking out on that game, I'm sure it was fun for 2001. This is dayz 2013.
  23. I agree it's a bit tough in 1rst person. I believe a good way to address this but still not have 3rd person omnipotent powers of vision when driving a vehicle would be to implement the "nose cam" or position the camera just at the windshield which is used as an option in racing games. Yes it is not truly authentic as far as realism but it gives much more situational awareness but still restricts the point of view. (in real life you are not really noticing the inner controls and hands as much while driving, your eyes are concentrating more on the outside of the windshield area) Also about backing up or seeing behind you in a car. How about still using nose cam but you press shift or a hot key and you get the nose came looking backward. of course with the option of the"alt" free-look.
  24. That vid hit the nail on the head. 1rst person all the way. It's better for immersion. The game is much more intense. 3rd person is a just an exploit that everyone uses because it's enabled by default. It takes the edge off and cheapens the experience. 3rd Person: Just kick back and crack a beer and play some dayzeeeee, no worries bro I can see around corners and over hills, This is not very hard at all. Look at my backpack ..so style.. 1rst person: OMFG did I just hear a zombie on the other side of that wall ?? Oh no someone is shooting at me... let me hide behind this large rock, which side is he charging from? (heart pumping)

    DayZ Standalone Discussion

You do have a point there: They have certainly fallen into the dev trap of over extending the scope of the game. They can't give time estimates because they get totally bashed if they miss the target , people freak out. The game is woefully underfunded and development progress is hampered by the lead dev's need to clean his apartment. This is a Jean-Luc Picard sized faceplam, as the game can and will make many millions. Will most likely outsell arma 3 yet the dev team is very very small, I'm thinking like 3 people. This makes no sense to me. It doesn't seem to be run as business but rather an enthusiastic side hobby.
