    Vehicle numbers

Please add some more detail as to why you think this way?, cars would be gridlocked, some people would have had no time to get to their cars, I have to think that there would be more cars than that but fuel would be the killer.
  2. With the current player mentality in the game it is not the zombies that wipe out the human race it is the remaining people who kill each other off rather than banding together to reform some sort of society... but to be fair there is not much else to do yet so player killing in the only real end game thing to do.

    Tents or other storage devices?

If only that was the case, I for one know my way to my exact hiding spot and that spot was only found once during my many hours in the mod XD

For those complaining about development pace

But this game had a leg up on most other alphas these days, it was already a mod, my biggest problem is that this game is (For the most part) behind the state of the mod, it seems that they have spent the majority of the dev time working on server stability (Not a bad thing) and adding a broken degradation system a bad thirst/ hunger system and adding weapon attachments.... on the plus side the ui is better than the mod, still clunky but better than the mod.
  5. If they have to be put in the game then I think this is a great way to do it, but they should be craft-able in smaller pieces too, as in you should be able to create say a head set, and sets for both your torso and legs independently, this way people can even further customize their characters.
  6. at the moment you need not worry about another players reaction to you... the WILL try to kill you 90% of the time, there is nothing intense about the confrontation. I agree to no PvE / PvP servers, this game needs a balance of both aspects. Becoming a better survivor should not be 'Hey there is another player. BAM, hes dead" there should be more to the social interactions in this game, but with that said this is an alpha so I am sure that they will attempt to at least add more reasons not to be a LOLDEATHMATCHGETWRECKEDFGGT kind of player as the game progresses.

    Mod vs SA?

Let me start this post by saying that I am NOT hating on this game I am however making some statements based on what I have seen/done in game. I spent my $30 to gain early access to this game knowing that it was an early alpha, I am more than willing to give Dean and his team my money because I believe in the vision, But even being an early alpha I am a little dissapointed that the mod is in a better state given that the game has been in dev for over a year, Don't get me wrong I'm not saying that making a game this complex is easy or anything or that I want a complete game overnight but lets look at some facts. This game in its standalone form is using. Map made from Arma 2 Engine from ToH Around 10-15 generic interiors for all buildings Sounds (Zombies) from the mod Now lets look at the state of things, the mod at the moment has more weapons, zombies, animals and features in general. so what has been done in the SA over the year of development, so far we have a Revamped Ui and inventory system, we have new random buildings and city like areas, we have a new (Odd) hunger and thirst system, we have enter able buildings (Around 15 unique interiors), we have a new weapon "the Mosin" and we have a degradation system for our stuff. Now I am not sure if I am missing any features either in the mod or the SA, if you think of any please mention them, the point I am trying to make is why after over a year of development is the mod still in a better place, given the pace of development I would say that it will be years before a retail release is even on the horizon. What are your thoughts on this? Now for those who TL:DR the thread.... The mod (IMO) is in a better place than the SA after 1 year of dev XD Once again let me finish off by stating that I am not hating, in fact I am having fun testing this and am eagerly awaiting new features to test, I am just looking at things in a time vs features way. Thanks for making it to the end of my post and please don't flame me for my opinions too badly XD.

    Mod vs SA?

This I do not agree with... Dean and his team are taking time off over the holidays, to Dean this is more than a game, this is something that he has been working on for a long ass time and it is finally coming together for him, he and his team will get it finished, lets please not derail this topic into a dev flame.

    Mod vs SA?

I see the point about the engine implementation, however the mod also altered the way the engine for Arma worked, in arma there is no melee at all for example Dean and his mod team added melee (as shown by the axe you needed to reload and made shooting sounds XD) Scripting was a huge problem for the mod and I am glad that is gone from the SA but really if you look at the engine and the flow of the game it still has the same awkward movement system that plagued the arma series. Also thank you for having a civilized debate XD.

    Mod vs SA?

True about the hackers, I am glad to have had little run ins with them.
  11. GarethAUS

    Mod vs SA?

First the engine is not its own it is using the ToH engine with parts from Arma3, and please elaborate on why they can't be compared and how the SA is in such a better state, also as I stated I am having fun testing but as a tester these are my observations.
  12. GarethAUS

    Mod vs SA?

True I did indeed forget about the hackers, My friends and I have only run into hackers twice during our play time in the SA vs MANY MANY times in the mod so that is a big + for Dean and the dev team

Killed by a Bug, No more playing for me.

Yeah, to be honest mate what were you thinking when you bought an alpha for a game... it even tells you every time that you open the damn thing up that it is an alpha and that bugs are to be expected, Rocket also said (I'm going to paraphrase) "If you don't want to be part of an alpha test where there will be bugs then do not buy this game yet".
  14. so me and some buddies were playing last night and we kept running for a bit then getting ported back to a previous location (Normally our spawn in location) our game would then lock up and not allow us to do anything even access the exit function, Is anyone else having this and does anyone know the cause/ solution? Cheers Gareth

    Teleporting back to previous location?

Thanks for your really awesome and valuable input you total twat....

    Vehicles needed asap?

Just looking for what you other fine people of the DayZ community think on this. I think that cars should be added pretty soon, they will need to be tested anyway as part of the alpha, maybe test them before ramping up the zombie count, we do know that vehicles work on the engine so for me it would seem like the next step is to add them into the testing mix. and above all that I am kind of bored running around even in sonic mode XD. Thoughs?
  17. GarethAUS

Removing all loot, adding 3k+ zombies

Sounds like fun BRING IT ON
  18. GarethAUS

    Vehicles needed asap?

in Vanilla dayz the best hiding places were not known by many, these days most people know where a vehicle is likely to be, as long as you make them respawn if they are out of the map bounds all should be gravy, also in a real end of the world type scenario vehicles would be common as hell but the fuel would be the hard thing to find, lets hope they take after this XD
  19. GarethAUS

    Vehicles needed asap?

The standalone is using the ToH engine including base code from arma 3, it also uses parts of the Real Virtuality engine, Again I say we know that vehicles work on the ENGINE as if you have played any arma3 or ToH you have seen them in action. now this is the point I am trying to make, I would like to test them sooner rather than later, as I feel that they are a huge part of the game and should be tested asap.
  20. GarethAUS

    Vehicles needed asap?

Arma2 is the mod my friend, the SA is running on the Arma3 model, and I did say work on the engine, the best way to find and get rid of the major bugs is to let the community of alpha testers to test.
  21. GarethAUS

    Vehicles needed asap?

I agree about them not being ready, that is kind of the point, I would love to test them and help in making them ready, no better way to find out what is wrong with them than to wack them in the game and let the Alpha testers put them through their paces
  22. GarethAUS

    This community....(kos complaint)

I hate the KoS mentality but that is what the game is at the moment, I would rather a reason not to kos but at this stage I have to agree with the people saying "What do with all this gearz" once you are all kitted up you can either stay away from people or jump into the fray. BUT people need to stop telling people to go play another game the second they state their opinion about the game.
  23. GarethAUS

DayZ is FailZ (Lacklustre Infected comment)

I feel that people need to stop using the "Alpha" defence, Yes the game is in early alpha, yes things are not working as they should be, yes some features of the game are not even working yet but when a player, who by the way paid his money just like the rest of us to help the dev team in this alpha process states something that he does not like we need to take the comment as feedback not just come at him with the "HURR DURR ALPHA NUB". Above that, the zombies are (For reasons rocket has mentioned) cut back to the bare bone numbers at the moment and they are working on the AI, but truth be told, both the Mod and the SA have always to me been more about the survival tha the zombies, unless they change the way zombies work in general the only thing increasing the numbers will do is piss people off even more rather than make you fear them XD
