How did you know he was a hopper..? I've spawned in places like that before without being a hopper. See, sometimes, I have to do things. Having to do things means that I can't leave somewhere that could be dangerous until I get back on the game. I was killed instantly on loading in one of the military tent areas yesterday. I wasn't server hopping. I got on the game after a five or six hour break. Sorry, I know it's not really relevant to the thread - but neither was the original guy's post. On topic, does any one know how good the magnum is? I've collected one but don't want to throw away my old hand gun yet... I feel like it should be more powerful, but with no option to silence it/replace iron sights? (I think there's a silencer for the old pistol)

Yeah man, I agreed that people bitching like this guy deserve to be told to STFU. However, I've seen plenty of people be told it's an alpha, shut the fuck up when they've been completely polite and not complaining. The point about bug fixes is valid - and I've not posted anything about bugs on the forum. However, I've seen people suggest things (and suggested things myself) in polite ways and still had people tell them/me to shut up, it's an alpha. There is a feature suggestion section on the forum. I use it - as do most people. People might say a lot of what is being suggested is in the planned release area... But generally people aren't saying 'Add this to the game.' Their saying 'This needs to be a priority - and here is why' or 'This is how this could be improved.' That's completely fine - and the fact it's an alpha does not mean people shouldn't be saying that kind of thing... The fact it's an alpha means that they in fact should. You might say you don't do it - or even that you haven't seen it. But I've seen that kind of thing regularly - and it needs to stop as it's nothing but counter productive. No. You paid for an alpha. You deserve an alpha now - and a full game later.

How to authentically strike the right balance of PvP in DayZ SA.
Isaaq replied to Zeds_Undead_baby's topic in General Discussion
I voted indirect. I think that some kind of sanity system would be very nice (and not just affected by killing) but it couldn't have huge effects... There are times when you actually have to kill people. -
Flare gun would be cool, but not sure how much it would actually be used.
-
Yeah, they came out in the patch. :) I've found two already, but that might be because I just searched a military base right after my server restarted...

So, I was wondering if there was any guides showing each type of building - and what it actually is. For the most part, it's fairly obvious - it's residential if it looks like a house and such, but when it comes to military buildings, fire stations, hospitals and the likes, I can get a little confused sometimes. Would also be useful if they were classified as high, low and medium yield, but I'm not sure whether that's based on the actual object - or specifically given to each building.

Small update, big impact! Thanks for an update on today of all days - and have a good new year!

DayZ is the only multiplayer survivor game thing where you can't carry like 10 guns, WHICH IS FANTASTIC, lets keep it this way
Isaaq replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
In that case, I agree with you - it's definitely one of the best games around for realism. Part of me would love to see things like weight added into the game - and part of me dreads it because I know that it would limit what I could do a lot... I do, however, think that there should be some way of carrying two larger guns though - at the expense of your melee weapon. -
Mmh, one thing I would see as a good idea in relation to the whole thing on learning stuff would be to switch the native language to English (which I think is the most commonly known language among players) and then have manuals in game that you can find and read on certain things. Could also give the computers some functionality - having some form of generator or something that you can place in your base camp, then you can collect computers around Cheranus - and look for ones that might have useful info on them. I know that if I heard about a zombie apocalypse starting, the first thing I would do would be to go online and save every single page I could find on making weapons, survival skills and the likes - then worry about powering my hard drive in any computer to access it later on. Combine that with very realistic systems for all kinds of things - from healing people to driving to flying, it makes for a very interesting game - which is also educational. Obviously there would have to be a cut off point, though. Don't want a game that puts people off because it's too difficult to do anything. Note: This, obviously, is a later date suggestion, like late alpha or early beta, when the majority of planned functionality is in game...

Timer is definitely the way to go with the solution. It also solves other problems the game has too. For anyone complaining about the idea of a timer, there are legitimate reasons to change server, sure. For example, I could be playing - and the server starts lagging. I might have two or three servers ready - so when one is buggy, I can switch to another. Problem solved - and I don't encounter a wait timer of any form. Now, the one thing I would say about wait timers is there should be an option to skip it - and start a new character. When people are first getting into the game, this would give them the option to try a few servers out and collect a couple into their favourites that they know is normally okay for them. To encourage this with people who aren't part of the community, it should be warned on the server selection screen somewhere about the problem of a timer - and the suggestion to find a few that you can use. There is no legitimate reason to switch servers more than once an hour - and that's being very generous, therefore there is no real reason to oppose timers. Private hives however, do cause problems for legitimate players.

Many people seem to be going on about the fact that certain features are planned on being implemented and as such, people shouldn't talk about them - mainly on the two examples I gave, cars and storage (tents.) The point is, people don't just want the original systems from the mod, for the most part. People want something better. So, even if a feature is planned, it still needs to be talked about. In depth. Because before it's implemented, it needs to be known exactly what people want - so they don't implement it and have a tonne of things they have to change because people are complaining. As for the complaining thing, I worded it a little badly in the OP. I don't like people complaining about things and did clear it up in a later post. My point was that when people brought up certain things, even if it was in a good way, there'd always be at least one person taking it out of context and bitching at them because it's in alpha.
-
Just gonna erm... Okay, so he's not being a dick because I'm talking about a bug, but that's the kind of thing I see a lot of. I agree that people who are complaining should stfu. But when people react like him, I honestly couldn't care less what they have to say. Just because you haven't personally seen it doesn't mean it's not there. I've never seen a Walkie Talkie in game, but apparently they exist. I wasn't even complaining about the game in this thread - I was telling people to stop crying about people pointing out bugs/requesting features... Yet I've still had people cry alpha over it. I know some have been sarcastic... But emphasis on some.
-
I've found a fair few... When I've not been looking for them. It's almost like the GTA Car anomaly... It takes you forever to find one - but once you have one, you seem to be fucking rolling in them, at least for me. I think I'm just incredibly unlucky, tbh.
-
If you're not going to bother reading what I wrote, I don't care for your reply. I'm not arguing with that. I'm talking more about the people who, whenever anyone says they want anything, they simply reply with 'it's an alpha.' Their suggesting things to be implemented. Their not saying 'This should be in the game already, wtf.' Their saying that they would like something to be in the game - and this is the time for them to do that. Well, that's what it was before people started abusing the system... I hope I'm right too in the case of DayZ. So much damned potential, I almost feel like Palpatine every time I open the planned features list.
-
I get what you mean man, but that would make the population of immigrants to native people something like 7:1 or along those lines. :P
-
Well, I know that the small protector case and walkie talkies definitely exist - so I'd say their probably the rarest items :P I've not had much of a problem finding LRS - they've appeared more than Acogs even, when I'm looking for Agocs. It's more a case of actually spotting them, like the can opener.
-
So, I went through http://dayz.gamepedia.com/Loot and selected every bit of loot I have not yet found in game - and know almost no one to have found in game... ChainsawCombat KnifeIzh43 ShotgunSKSWatchCooking clockFrying PanWalkieTalkieSmall Protector Case - This is the only item I've seen in game - but have never found one. My friend had it on him.MREPistachiosTrail MixKiwi (Fresh) According to the wiki, all of these items are actually implemented in the game right now. If anyone can prove otherwise with any of these, I'm happy to hear so... So I can shorten my list of stuff I have never had in the game. Literally everything else on the list (that isn't tbr), I've seen and collected. None of the other items have had any major difficulties finding them. Notable mentions however are maps - which are rare until you look in cars and garages, at which point they become very common. Long Range Scopes - which are rare until you look on the floor of grassy military tents very carefully and find them all the time. The Mosin its self - which is far more rare than the pistol and the M4. If the Shot Gun does not exist, then it's by far the rarest gun - and even if the shotgun does exist, I could just be really unlucky in looking for it.
-
Accidental Double Post, sorry.
-
The majority of stuff people are saying is not rare. No weapons are particularly rare compared to some stuff - unless Shotguns are out yet... I've played 34 Hours - and every life I've gotten to end game points and haven't seen one, despite being called common on the wiki. Anyway, if you want to see rare stuff, go on the wiki and look at the loot page under the military section. I'm not sure how much of it is ACTUALLY in game at the moment, but here's a couple of incredibly rare things; GPS System Night Vision Goggles Walkie - Talkies There are a few others, but I'm fairly sure that night vision goggles and walkie-talkies are actually implemented - and am 50/50 on GPS. These all are very, very rare spawns, limited to only the Barracks and Air Control Tower buildings. I have yet to see any of them - and know no one who has seen any either. The most common of the three seems to be walkie-talkies. People saying things like Defibs, Anti Biotics, Maps, Cooking Pots and the likes aren't looking in the right places. Protector Cases and Cooking Clocks do seem to be very rare too - but I've seen them in game personally. I've not seen a pilot helmet, but I'm not sure that's actually in game yet - the same with anti-stab vests.

Just throwing this out there with the whole 'Characters only know what players know...' The signs - and all text - should be in English. I'm fairly sure it's the primary language spoken by DayZ players - and I know that the game is set in Russia, but if you're in Russia, your 'character' is probably Russian. It just doesn't really make sense to me that the signs are all in a language that the majority of the player base cannot understand despite the fact that just being that would mean you should be able to. It's like how people say 'if your character has survived to this point, obviously they would have worked up enough strength and stamina for what you can do in the game to be possible.' If you catch my drift... Anyway, on topic... Back stories are nice - any anyone can make one for their character. It'd be good to see some RP style servers popping up, but they'd likely get griefed to hell. I just don't think the idea you're suggesting is particularly fitting to DayZ.

Possible solution to KOS, hear me out
Isaaq replied to jan3sobieski's topic in New Player Discussion
I don't think the idea really suits DayZ very well... Though I could see some form of sanity being implementable... -
Just got killed by what I assume is a server hopper. I was on my normal server, in the NWAF. I was exploring the military tents - looking for a suppressor. Someone had already emptied the place. I'd checked the place out very thoroughly - there was absolutely no one around. The server restarted - I felt pretty lucky really. So, I log out, back in - and spawn a little bit back from where I had been - due to disconnection. I was in one of the tents - on the end of the row (where I'd spawn if I were server hopping.) I looked up - and got shot in a face by a man sat in the corner of the tent. Just wanted to vent a little. I get what people mean by legitimate players getting pushed to hop due to other people doing it now. The most annoying part isn't even the loot - it's having to run all the way up to the north again.
-
The fact it's alpha has little to do with player behavoiur. Sure, people get bored faster and resort to KOSing and player hunting, but it was pretty damn prevalent in the mod too.

Isaaq replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
Please read my post above yours. DayZ may be about realism, but it really doesn't follow it very well. -
It's already in the game. And it's terrible. When you get shot, the vast majority of your stuff get's ruined. No matter where you got shot. For example, my fried got sniped in the head. A single shot. The members of my group took care of the sniper while I went and salvaged everything from the corpse. Everything was ruined. Stuff in his backpack, his clothes, all of his equipment. Even his guns. The equipment damage system should either only affect stuff that it actually hits (and if it hits the backpack, it randomly selects one or two items inside to damage - not everything) or it should just go. It's absolutely awful at the moment. Sure, the damages don't do much at the moment, but when it actually has an effect on most items, unless its SERIOUSLY nerfed, it's going to be game breaking.
