does location of stuff in your backpack affect the damage?
GpB311 replied to bioned's topic in General Discussion
I took a mosin round to the lower half of my body the other night, a guy I was playing with got a little carried away with his sniper duties and forgot what I was wearing, and all it did was ruin my magnum in my pants(Ill withhold the jokes) and the vest I was wearing. Nothing else I had was damaged, including the pants. -
Right now you can kind of choose to carry whatever the hell you want, but if/when they implement the stamina and/or weight system, youll be thinking a lot more carefully about what you carry.

Kidnapped, Robbed, Tortured & Beaten to Death. The dark side of DayZ
GpB311 replied to [email protected]'s topic in Gallery
From what people post on here, I feel like torture and pain is more the front door of DayZ...and the backdoor too I imagine. I hope my beans ease your pain. -
I dont feel Im in any position to judge their level of "pro-ness," but it seems like it was fun and I like the idea of it. Id take part in their next one if I hear about it in time and am free.

I've logged in only to find myself in such a position. It took me 5 minutes of constantly running and trying to jump out before I finally got out, but I guess he took advantage of it instead.

I've encountered people playing all sorts of stuff through voip or whatever you call the in-game general voice chat... from techno music as they hosted dance parties of people in their underwear, to Guile's music from Street Fighter II, and even a guy who seemed to be playing DJ to his own radio station in a hospital, but the other night I encountered someone doing something a bit different. I was armed with only a crowbar and looking for food when I thought I heard a zombie nearby. I scanned the area, trying to decided if I should hide, flee, or fight, but I didn't see anything. I crept along the edge of a two story house, still looking around, but couldn't see a zombie anywhere nearby. A minute passes and I hear more zombie sounds, they sound a little off since I couldn't get a direction on them, but it sounds like there's a couple of them around. I run into the house and as I open the door upstairs, there's a guy with an sks just pointing his gun at me. He doesn't shoot immediately, so I try to talk to him, you know...the usual "I'm friendly" business and I keep myself on the other side of the room from him. He doesn't speak a word, but he does wiggle a few times and then I hear the zombie sounds again. It turns out he had recorded or whatever the sounds different zombies make and was just playing them himself. I tried to talk a little more, but got nothing, so since I was still alive I decided to not press my luck and left. He didn't follow and I have no clue who he was, but good job in giving me a bit of a scare.

While I was waiting for my team-mate at Krasnostav, I had the chance to briefly meet 3 survivors.. They no longer exist

I dont think Id consider either of his kills to involve much of a fire fight. -
Question for headphone users (game audio through headphones)
GpB311 replied to Slyguy65's topic in General Discussion
With my 7.1 headphones, I definitely get a direction to sounds like voices, bullets, etc, but I cant say Ive been able to always use that alone to pinpoint the location of someone. Maybe its me, maybe its the limited capability of ingame sounds right now...I cant really say. -
Did you follow the sign on the bottom pic and go to the "pooper"?
-
If youre not on an empty server, and not heading into the middle of nowhere up North, than any major city will likely have other survivors in it. Cherno isnt as crowded as it once was, but I still see people in Elektro pretty often. I also run into people heading up past the shipwreck along the East coast as well. Just remember that many of the people you run into, especially along the coast, will likely greet you with gunfire.

When and how do you make contact with strangers?
GpB311 replied to iBane's topic in New Player Discussion
Since Ive largely played alone, Ive learned to travel along roads in the trees. I observe people from afar, look for any weapons or friends they might be with, and then decide whether I want to avoid them or interact with them...I prefer to always surprise them if I can, even if they appear unarmed. I dont KOS or kill without reason, perhaps a weakness on my part, but I do prefer to be able to shoot them before they can get a weapon out need be. -
Impossible to be "Friendly" in this game. Resorted to Banditry.
GpB311 replied to MyPassword is Chickens20's topic in New Player Discussion
Is it the owning/using of gear such as weapons, clothes, etc that makes the game fun for you or is it the adventure you went on to get that gear that makes it worth playing? Maybe your answer is "Neither, what makes the game fun is shooting other players," which is fine, but for me I feel like Ive reached the last level of this game whenever Im fully geared...Like Im the boss people want to beat at the end of the level now. Getting killed is just like starting the game over, except every time you play the game, each level is a little different than the last time I played it. -
There is a certain intensity brought on by playing at night, but Ive yet to run into another player in the dark. Any time I thought I saw a flashlight in the distance, it was just a light near a building or something. Regardless of the limited state of the game, night time servers do offer another challenge to overcome and Im a fan.

What, in your opinion, is the most important item in the game?
GpB311 replied to Elidor's topic in General Discussion
Any kind of axe. Sure the fire axe works its magic a bit faster, but anything I can both open cans and kill zombies, and other survivors need be, with rather silently is a valued item in my mind. -
People like to sit on the big hill North of the shipwreck or someone might have had the drop on you from the ship itself and you just didnt see them. Cant say for sure though...
-
New spawns are hungry and thirsty to begin with, basically giving you a small hill to climb from the get go and increasing the intensity of the games survival aspect. Once you get yourself to a hydrated and energized point, youre usually good to go for a while. Just be cautious not to over stuff yourself or youll throw up and have to do it again.

Zombies follow me up stairs maybe 30% of the time now. Mostly they seem to just wander around downstairs from where I am though.

"I always knew it would end like this....sex slave." I lol'd and had the people I work with staring at me. -
This is a wonderful thing.

Run against the walls and use the "stepping/jumping" key when near a wall. Ive gotten stuck inside rooms without working doors and thats usually worked after a few tries.
-
While it angers many, this game is about playing out a role in a zombie apocalypse and we each get to choose that role, even if that choice is to be...well...a dick.

Will they make any of the zombies faster than us?
GpB311 replied to Johnny Depth's topic in General Discussion
As long as they dont turn into Left4Dead spitting acid or jumping on my head zombies, Im pretty happy. I do want more zombies though... -
The first player I encountered was a very seemingly friendly girl with an interesting accent. We ran into a town and as I was walking out of a house she tried to kill me with a crowbar she had found. Luckily my axe and aim were better and she lost the fight. She was also teabagged by me until I got bored of it.

Is it better to travel with your gun in your hands or on your back?
GpB311 replied to omgwtfbbq (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Ive been sniped and shot at plenty of times when I had no weapon whatsoever in my hands, so I tend to just leave it on my back until I feel Im in a place I might need it. Sure, thats technically almost anywhere, but I try to just be as aware as possible.
