    Well, I combat logged.

Not sure how logic has brought you to this conclusion; I never KoS and yet I hate it when people log because it robs the game of its main ingredient: player interaction. It seems you'd rather label those against combat logging as KoS'ers than have a valid argument which doesn't really make sense. I've only been logged on twice as of semi-recent, but in both cases I was attempting a friendly encounter because I find that to be a more engaging and rewarding way to play. But, rather than playing the game as it's meant to be played, these two guys opted out for fear of death or getting "trolled" or whatever. Luckily they were unaware of the 30s timer. :) What does this have to do with combat logging? As much as I don't like being shot in the back, it's a legitimate style of playing the game. And as always, being KoS'd requires that you be in sight - something that I make a conscious attempt not to do. It's unbelievable how many players in this game run around completely oblivious as if they're the only one on the map; most all of my encounters involve me seeing someone and leaving them alone. Sometimes I feel bad for leaving them alone because they don't learn anything from it :P

Are these weather effects a bit too much?

I've had little issues with being cold. Only have gotten "Cold" so far when I didn't have proper rain protection and a fire quickly remedied that for me; I have yet to die of the cold and haven't even been hypothermic as of yet. I don't think it's correct is saying it's raining 90% of the time either. Sometimes when I join a server, yes, it's raining 90% of the time. Other times or servers it doesn't rain at all, so it's quite variable in my experience. I don't see how going inside a building would help you fight the cold much as the temperature in the building is the same as outside. I suppose the wind could play a small role. Rain definitely soaks you too fast though. Sometimes it's a mere sprinkle and you're nearly instantaneously soaked which is a bit silly. Hard rain should definitely cause you to be soaked in maybe a few minutes, but anything less should definitely require more time. I live in Washington State and I never wear rain jackets, yet I'm never soaked by the constant drizzle we get during the colder times of the year. Other than that I'm definitely liking the system.

    Forum names = no kos

Currently I'm Eddie Currants but I change my name every now and then. I've seen a few names in game that may be from the forums, but then again it could have just been a coincidence.

    When do you demand Vehicles?

You seem to be forgetting the part where they warned you it was a buggy sack of shit and explicitly stated that you should NOT buy it, especially if you're looking for a stable game.

    Well, I combat logged.

Killing on sight is a realistic option in the game and a legitimate style of play; combat logging is not. It is simply leaving the game because you're too afraid of losing your character. KoSing could happen in real life if some hypothetical zombie/virus apocalypse happened, combat logging could not. I combat logged once when I was new, before the 30s timer was added. It made me feel like shit - because it's a shitty thing to do. Never again.

i always die of starvation. i need help!

In the future, ponds and perhaps even wells will have the possibility of being contaminated - so be ready. ;) You should never drink stagnant water in real life and once shit hits the fan even wells might not be safe. Cold water, especially when moving, will likely not have any virus - but it sure as hell can have harmful bacteria.

Anybody remember when Dean Hall said...

Are you kidding? You really think there could be 200 players and you could go hours without seeing other players? The only way that'd be possible is if you stared at the ground the entire time. Even then I'm not sure. I usually play for 1-3 hours at a time and I see at least one person every time, usually more - and I am somewhat of a recluse in the game as I mainly stick to the trees and smaller towns. That sounds very fun and all, but that isn't DayZ and it doesn't seem in any way very comparable even with the same map. I agree that 120 players wouldn't be crowded for a military sim, but I certainly wouldn't say the same for DayZ.

    Zombies and rarity of guns

Should just take one punch to the head I believe, though I haven't punched zombies for a long while. Much easier and less risky to lock em in buildings.
  9. Not necessarily. http://woodtrekker.blogspot.com/2012/03/does-wool-keep-you-warm-when-wet.html However this is just one experiment and isn't exactly a real-world scenario. Being wool it should still take longer to get "wet" or "soaked" though and thus provide better insulation for a longer amount of time. Also compared to cotton & fleece: http://woodtrekker.blogspot.com/2012/11/cotton-vs-wool-insulation.html

Dying of hunger wayyyyy too often

Gotcha, I thought you were referring to where he said that he'd never been killed by a zombie. You were plenty clear. ;)

Dying of hunger wayyyyy too often

I've never been killed by infected either. Hit by them, yes, but never killed. That'd be embarrassing. Never broken my legs on or been killed by a ladder/stairs either. I'm beginning to think it's a huge joke that I'm not in on. :P

How are we supposed to play the game right now?

How do you die of starvation? No, really, I can't figure out how to do it with the immense amount of food lying around.
  13. solodude23

Dying of hunger wayyyyy too often

But you realize that you spawn hungry, right? You don't spawn energized as if you've been eating full meals for weeks hence why you can't last long without food. You are on the brink of starving and you MUST find food in order to begin getting energized. But like I said, it sounds more like you died of hypothermia than starvation.

Dying of hunger wayyyyy too often

The time it takes to starve has to be balanced between gameplay and realism, just as all other mechanics, because it could otherwise take weeks to starve to death. You may also notice that a splint instantly fixes a broken limb and bandages magically fix bullet wounds, yet you aren't concerned about these things lacking realism. There must be balance. That being said, it's a work in progress and there are many variables. For example, if you're cold your body needs to burn more calories in order to maintain your body temperature. However, I must say that I've never starved to death within an hour of eating three cans of food so maybe this is an accident/bug introduced with the hotfix. EDIT: Yes, the fact that you had hypothermia plays a huge factor. The hypothermia was causing your character to deplete energy much faster than normal. But from the way you phrased it, you ate a can of peaches before dying, which would indicate that you died of hypothermia rather than hunger.

Anybody remember when Dean Hall said...

Well, the map is larger too so what I meant is that going above 80 players raises the density closer to that of a BF game (but still much lower, I really just don't want it to feel crowded) But yeah, ARMA makes more sense I suppose. In my defense I've never played it :P150 players would be ridiculous at hotspots.

Anybody remember when Dean Hall said...

Yeah, or maybe like 80 maximum. Anything higher would seem ridiculous IMO; this isn't Battlefield.

    firefighter jacket

Hmm, not in my experience. I've been running around in one and I keep a raincoat in my backpack for when it rains. Unless it was changed with the hotfix.

    Goodbye Balota barracks

Stable was updated earlier today and the barracks are now removed. Pics: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/211123-map-changes-in-049124971-and-124972/page-2#entry2120649

Catching out a combat logger on .49

Definitely a bad time to combat log, but I can't believe that your char didn't die or at least go unconscious from all those shots.

    Walking while eating and drinking.

Agreed, I think about this quite a lot. Being able to walk/stand/crouch while eating would be great. I think the current walk speed is just fine though, as it's already slower than my real life walking pace. /\ I don't think adding "sprint eating" is really necessary and I think the repercussions for spring eating are going too far. Just making it so you can walk, crouch, and stand while eating would be a great improvement.
  21. Screwdrivers are the broke man's can opener.
  22. It's interesting because sometimes I get "No message received" several times back to back while other times I can have over an hour of uninterrupted gameplay.

    Fire doesn't warm you up.

Well what are you wearing (in game)?

    Cattle Prod

They each serve their purpose. I carry both a fireaxe and a stun baton. Yesterday I spotted a guy finishing his loot run at Msta. Decided not to make contact but instead follow him to Staroye. He started looting from the north side of town and I knew he'd likely be headed into the yellow food building through the front door. I patiently waited behind the inside door of the back room for him but heard him chowing down in the food room, so I promptly went in and zapped him unconscious. Only lasts a few seconds, but it's enough to steal what you need and GTFO! lol Not sure if the cattle prod has a longer "unconscious" duration, but it seems to deplete batteries quicker.
