  1. It certainly needs its cons, I just don't like the idea of getting a disease from someone who doesn't have a disease. That's not asking for ultra-realism, that's asking for a slight hint of realism. Diseases don't pop up magically by eating a human - and that seems to be the way that the cons are going in terms of cannibalism.
  2. No need to attach a stigma to someone just because they don't like a certain implementation. I have no intention of eating other people and I avoid KOS, but I'd prefer a more "realistic" (authentic) counter to cannibalism than a prion disease. Realistically there's no real dangerous disease you can catch by eating another human if you cook them. I suppose it'd be better if they implemented a back story that would explain the expansion of a prion disease, but it would still only make sense to get the disease if you ate someone who already had the diseases. Diseases don't just pop into existence because you ate another human. There were some good ideas on Reddit - like you could only eat your first human if you were starving to death. Then perhaps you can only eat humans after that - or maybe it can always stay so that you can only eat humans if starving. Or perhaps mental health related effects could add up over time. Something along those lines.
  3. You can't get Kuru (or any prion-related disease) without eating someone who is already infected which is very unlikely to happen considering how rare any of these diseases are. Only something like 1 or 2 per million have CJD, there's been only 229 cases of vCJD since 1996, and Kuru is basically wiped out. There are many more types of diseases that would be far more realistic than a prion disease.

    Water and food

I enjoy the need to eat and drink in game, as do many others. After-all, it is a survival game. The only boring part about it is the excessive amount of food loot that currently plagues persistent servers, making survival the easiest part of the game at the moment. Edit: There is indeed a working crossbow in game. While I'm sure the eating/drinking mechanics may change in time, I don't find them to be particularly over the top as it stands. It's very easy to stay well fed and watered and as long as you keep a canteen on you and keep track of water sources you're fine. Realistically with all the sodas and food you don't even need to keep track of water.

Can we get a sneak movement?

I thought that's what the crouched movement was?

Can't we reset to 0.49 for a while?

There's ton's of guns, food and ammo on persistence enabled servers. Way too much. Even if one area might have next to nothing, the next area has 15 SKSs, 4 pistols, and ammo everywhere. I know it might be a while, but I decided to give the game a nice long break until loot spawning is working a bit better because ATM you can be geared from a single building.

DayZ HardCore - What a Moron

Holy lag batman! Well I'm glad you got him. I recommend turning up your horizontal mouse speed (and maybe vertical to match) because you seemed pretty restricted with the pistol when he was chasing you. Also, what's your FOV set to?

    Are weapon magazines too rare?

Poll options are a bit oddly constructed. First question asks if the mags are too rare, but the answers have another thing tacked on: spawn location. This is asking two separate questions. To the first question, no, it should be pretty damn hard to find mags for assault rifles/carbines. The current rarity is fine. As for the second part of the question, I think that the same amount of mags should be spread over a wider range of military structures, including the camo building, tents, barracks, and jeeps. This would detract from server hopping and reward more detailed searching because the mags won't just be in one spot. Also, the second poll question should say "Barracks" as one of the options, not "Just Barracks", because if someone want's them to only spawn in barracks they simply select the barracks option alone - hence the use of a multiple choice poll. :)

    Are weapon magazines too rare?

You have more then just the Mosin and shotgun if you don't go west. There's still the SKS, blaze, and repeater along with the magnum as a sidearm. SKS ammo seems pretty scarce outside of military bases or perhaps I'm just getting unlucky. Usually find mosin, buckshot, and magnum ammo pretty often. Some civ mags could spawn a bit more frequently perhaps.

    Map Changes in 0.50.125365

I never searched the base extensively in experimental, but the large hangars were removed, the barracks traded positions with one of those non-enterable barracks-looking buildings, and the jail building was moved to the east side of the base where the hangars were previously. Also seems to me like there's a bit more underbrush, though I'm not positive.

Do we really need more towns?

Nah man not at all, just the existing areas that are already cleared out where towns are planned. Just look at the new towns in the northwest (Novaya Petrovka & Topolniki). The towns, aside from the buildings themselves, are very unique IMO due to their layout and personal "style" - I really like that area now. I don't expect you to agree with me, but that's my opinion on the towns. Totally - but even with the newly added towns there's plenty of fields in the area (Check it out here). The area in which these towns now reside is HUGE and was previously the most boring and unused part of the map. It's by no means crowded and I certainly find that they make the area more interesting. There's still fields to cross as obstacles - in fact that's nearly the only way to get to either town. The area still has plenty of room for crops and there's still plenty of room to setup camp. C'mon dude that's not necessary. I was referring to the area as being unlike a countryside because it appears intentionally cleared out - as it was. It resembled an early construction site for a town much more than the countryside or a "landscape". Well, I can't quite agree that every town looks alike. I didn't exactly believe that you thought they were literally copied and pasted, I just don't think it's in any way an accurate description of how they build towns - so why say it?

Plans to hotfix 0.50? (Dev reply please?)

Persistent servers have had these issues for a while (pretty much since the beginning of persistence). Certain areas have either not loot or WAY too much loot. I do hope that it's tidied up a bit soon because playing on persistent servers makes the DayZ experience 10x better imo - but the loot issue is a bit of a game breaker.

    Map Changes in 0.50.125365

Awesome! Only place that I haven't been able to visit so far is Belaya Polana - gonna cover it tomorrow. Love the feeling of Novaya Petrovka and Topolniki - I also noticed there was one of the common large (long) barns at coordinates 031, 017 - but it had a large chunk of it missing from damage. Not sure if it's a new addition or not. The Kamensk military base also has some minor changes to it since experimental.

Thoughts on the new .50 Update...

Overall loving the update and the new towns. Toploniki and Novaya Petrovka have a cool feeling to them and really bring life to the NW. Have yet to visit Belaya Polana, gonna head there tomorrow. Also love the underbrush added to the Kamensk MB...gives it a real derelict feeling. Biggest issue I've had is with server-side lag/desync. Sometimes my hotbar don't work at all. Correct. Have you been overheating or just hot? Because being "Hot" isn't so much of an issue and I don't believe it has any negative effect on your character. Been doing fine ignoring it - I figure being hot is a pretty regular feeling when you're jogging/sprinting long distances. Usually when I get to a town and slow down I lose the "Hot" status.

Thoughts on the new .50 Update...

I believe this one is set in sometime in summer which is why it seems so much warmer than the previous stable build. I know a DEV said that somewhere but I'm too lazy to find it now.

Thoughts on the new .50 Update...

Ran around 10k and my boots are still pristine. Either it's a bug or they were damaged by zombies. @Mookie: Why are you acting like it's not possible to be wet and hot? I believe this is set in summertime whereas last build was fall time. Doesn't take long to get hot if you're sprinting around - and as long as you aren't overheating you should be fine.

shoe comfort wear anyone care to explain?

Footwear degrades at different rates depending on the type of footwear, running surface, and movement speed. No type of footwear makes you any slower or faster. Duct tape can be used to reinforce shoes that have taken damage.

.50 tips for lazy non exp players

    - Starvation/thirst has been adjusted and seems pretty well balanced to me. Water is more important that it was previously so make sure you keep a canteen on you if you plan on doing any long distance running. - Gardening is probably not necessary unless food loot is more properly balanced now. In exp there was no need to garden with all the food lying around. - Shoes degrade over time but it shouldn't be too much of a game changer. Duct tape can be used to reinforce boots as they become damaged. - Haven't used any of the new weapons except the shotgun and it's awesome -You need a lockpick to both lock and unlock any interactable door. Locked status should remain persistent on persistent servers (Not sure if all servers are persistent or not..?) but you can still lock doors on non-persistent servers. You can bust open locked doors with melee weapons/guns/fists if you don't have a lockpick -Metal wire can be combined with a stick to craft a rabbit snare. Not sure if persistent.

Do we really need more towns?

It makes sense that there was probably something there before - but if it was indeed all forest then that's certainly no better than a town in terms of diversity and making the map interesting. "What's wrong with a vacant field?" First of all there's plenty of vacant fields. Much of the western side of the map is fields. Second, this is less than a vacant field - the area around Toploniki is(was) completely void of anything (prior to this update) - indicative that it was likely cleared out as you stated before (and it was not very resembling of the countryside). I don't get how a vacant field is better than a town to you though if you're interested in making the map more interesting. It was just about as dull as it could get up there. Right, but the way in which you stated it definitely made it feel as though you really didn't appreciate (or understand) the work put into the variation in these towns. There's nothing copy and paste about them except for the buildings used - and that's a different topic. I don't find that the towns feel the same. I'm liking many of the newer small towns just because of the way they feel, but that's just me. I hope there's a few more unique types of buildings added as well - but that doesn't mean I don't like the addition of these new towns. As new buildings are created they can easily just swap em out for existing, repetitive buildings. Not a bad idea.

Cooking with stove, insta-burnt - Fixed? Plans?

Hoping this will be fixed soon - as others have said it doesn't seem like the *hardest* of things to fix and it would be more welcoming to new players. Also, I don't get why burnt meat makes you sick - I think this should be changed as well. It should surely have reduced nutritional value but as far as I know burned meat is just carcinogenic - and I think it comes on a bit quick for the sickness to be cancer. :D

Do we really need more towns?

I welcome these new, smaller towns to fill up the large vacant areas of the North/Northwest. Some of you are complaining about these new towns being "copy & paste" but honestly I've found them to be quite the opposite. I find there are many other aspects of a town that separate it from the rest including the layout, presence of certain buildings, foliage in the area, presence/lack of farms, etc. Just because they have some of the same buildings doesn't mean they are alike. Many of the new towns are much more interesting to me than the older southern towns even though I'm fairly new to Chernaurus. Once these towns are finished they will focus on spicing up old towns and adding a more variation within the map. On another note, as new towns have been added more foliage also comes along. Sinistok, for example, was once a large vacant field, absent of anything beyond grass. Now it's a quaint little town, fairly unpopulated, with variety of trees and underbrush. Nice place to settle in or around considering it's obscurity and proximity to NWAF.
  25. Sure it does. I can run Arma 3 on max settings with pretty damn good FPS. DayZ I struggle in cities on low settings. Not criticizing DayZ, just stating facts.
