Third Person View should be Over-the-Shoulder, NOT a bird's eye view.
solodude23 replied to Rags!'s topic in General Discussion
I love first person and the more realistic gameplay it provides, but this topic has been beaten to death. As long as there's an option to choose between 1st and 3rd person servers, I'm happy. :) -

Haha I ran into her (him) earlier in the day when the server was fairly unpopulated. Approached one of those round barracks buildings at NWAF with my SKS drawn only to find Trisha standing inside apparently going through his inventory. No shots were fired and we ended up teaming up for a bit and taking my V3S to Veresnik MB. For some reason the name didn't register till after we parted ways. Sidenote: Are radios working on this build? -
Gotta agree with the above post. Sounds like a good experience - but I feel bad that you felt you had to kill the guy considering how easy it is to lose people in the game. Plus he sounded harmless; did he even have a firearm? Ah well it doesn't matter really - what matters is YOU thought he might be a danger if you let him live and thus had to take action. I only suggest that in the future you consider other options such as running away, forcing him to run away (at gunpoint), KOing him and running away, or simply leaving him be.

Can someone explain how loot spawn/respawn works?
solodude23 replied to shokaloop's topic in General Discussion
I literally laughed out loud at this. Is getting your desired loot really worth not actually playing the game? You're the reason I only play on private shards now. P.S. Persistent servers don't spawn loot on restart. -
Why didn't you just part ways with the guy or KO him and leave? Usually when I team up with someone we end up parting ways after 30min to an hour anyway; nothing wrong with that.
-
Well you did say that after waiting for who knows how long in Novo, you blasted the first guy you saw at the town hall. (Not saying that's necessarily a bad thing though.) Anyway I've been running into people fairly consistently in the NW along with Cherno/Elektro (for DayZ anyway, I usually avoid heavily populated areas).

That's awesome, I wish I knew that before. I've always ran back to the door to kill the zombie that's kicking my hitboxes ass!

What's up with the loot in Third person?
solodude23 replied to shokaloop's topic in General Discussion
I have never been to a server where all cities had bad loot. Some (especially those on the coast) may have next to no loot, but other towns may have buttloads. Keep on searching - the same thing happens on full/near full 1PP servers too. -
Why does the game hide everything cool from us?
solodude23 replied to Sebidee's topic in General Discussion
I have to disagree. That DOES make a good game when it comes to DayZ. While finding individual cool things should not be extremely hard, having and holding many of the cool items of the game should certainly take time and effort. If you could be fully kitted within minutes, or even a few hours, what's the point of gearing up and surviving to begin with? If everything's just given to you, we'd have kitted guys with vehicles all over the place carelessly PVP'ing. Part of the fear of death lies with the rarity of high value items. You say that you have to play "hours and hours of boring gameplay just to get something cool". If you're playing to get cool things, you're doing it wrong - and of course it will be boring. Play for the survival, interaction, and hairy situations that DayZ throws you into - not for the loot. If you survive these experiences, chances are you'll come across some of the cooler items in the game and have a good time in the process. This of course has it's limits when you consider the current status of DayZ, but I find I have the most fun when I try to encompass myself in the game and play for the experience. I don't pay much attention to new items as they're added to the game and thus don't usually search for them specifically, but I'm always happy when I find them as I play! :) All being said, it's of course a WIP and loot, along with the central economy, will be ironed out in the next few months. And to some extent - you're absolutely right. Certain items you'll likely never find, but I think the problem lies more with server hoppers and an unfinished loot economy rather then the intentions of the DEVs. -
Why does the game hide everything cool from us?
solodude23 replied to Sebidee's topic in General Discussion
Remember it's still just the first iteration. I haven't even tried looking for a V3S since experimental since they're not tied to persistence anyway so chances are I'd loose it soon after finding one. I hope someday, once vehicles are repairable, that there will be more vehicles per server in various conditions that players are competing to fix up and take for themselves. Edit: Also, don't expect vehicles to ever "end the running simulator". They're not intended to and anyone with a valuable opinion likely wouldn't say so. Think of them more as an added element to the game that are not without their own drawbacks. Between finding vehicles, finding their parts, repairing them, finding fuel, and avoiding detection, they'll never be easy to attain or keep a hold of - and that's really where the fun lies. -
Know what is also like your brain? Your brain. You should be able to remember what is in your backpack and the approximate locations. It makes no sense for the gear window to resemble your brain when you actually have a functional brain to remember to begin with. In order to actually see the exact locations of items and interact with them, you should have to stop and open your backpack.

If anything it'll increase PVP due to the lack of challenge in the game and lack of fear of death. I've encountered the most friendly players when loot (including guns & ammo) is extremely hard to come by.

If anyone needs one, I left a Jerrycan right behind the overturned truck on the beach at Berezhki. It had 80% fuel in it up until the point I accidentally "Emptied" it. :D -
Did you cook the meat or eat it raw? Just curious.

Was playing .51 exp the other day and my compass was telling me that north was to the west. Was fixed by a relog.

Nothing reduces PvP KoS like...I don't know...EATING PEOPLE!?!
solodude23 replied to bfisher's topic in General Discussion
Cannibalism can be used as a method of subsistence. Rape cannot. -
It's basically a degenerative neurological disorder that is based on prions, or misfolded proteins. Since the disease is transmitted through these misfolded proteins and not a virus/bacteria, the disease can be transmitted through cooked meat (in reality anyway). In the game I think you have to eat raw meat but I'm not positive. Mad cow disease is probably the most well known of prion diseases.

Got sick from eating burnt bore steak
solodude23 replied to Johnny Depth's topic in General Discussion
Last time I got sick from burned meat I just ignored it and eventually it went away. -
So I just looked and all I have is: lastMPMission="DayZ_Auto" I'm assuming this may have to do with clicking "Play" on the main menu - which I did in attempt to join the last server. However, I did it too early after restart and it sent me to the server browser.

Lead Producer of DayZ says, "1PP is better"
solodude23 replied to rickyriot's topic in General Discussion
If some people in this thread have tried 1PP and found it felt too restrictive - keep trying at it. When I first converted, I felt extremely restricted and vulnerable. This goes away after not long. Just remember to keep your head on a pivot (abuse that alt key) and adjust your POV to an acceptably wide view. Wide enough to not feel constricted but not too wide that it makes everything on the screen tiny. After some play I realized that gameplay-wise, 3PP servers make you more vulnerable. The ability for other players to see you over a wall or around a building fosters vulnerability at all times. In 1PP I feel much safer as I stealthily move through towns - using movement that would be rendered useless if people could see me around and over structures. Definitely a misleading title however and as soon as I read the status report I knew some ridiculous thread like this would pop up. I'm a huge 1PP fan but this simply isn't needed. -
I've never ran back to my body.
-
You could always just set up two different controls. I set my "fast forward" to "shift + w" and "turbo" to "2x w" . I typically prefer the shift button for sprinting but the "2x w" lets me look at my inventory while running.

Remove random laughing as a side effect for cannibalism please.
solodude23 replied to Jhunt7507's topic in Suggestions
Yeah, prion based diseases are quite different from other types of diseases, but they still don't come from nothing. In rare cases (5-10% of CJD cases according to wiki), the prion disease is acquired through a genetic "mutation of the gene that codes for the prion protein" which leads to the misfolded proteins (prions). So in extremely rare cases, it's genetic. Patient zero of Kuru was very likely to have either been born with said genetic mutation (and was later eaten) or ate someone who already had a genetic mutation that led to CJD. I'll love DayZ regardless of what happens with this, but I strongly dislike the idea of getting a disease from nothing just to counter cannibalism. If there were to be a system added in which some players spawn as asymptomatic or genetic carriers of some sort of disease that could be spread, awesome! That'd be a sweet way to counter it - you'd never know who or who isn't a carrier to begin with so it'd be risky to be a cannibal and perhaps only worth it under dire circumstances. And the best part is it'd be a "real" disease in-game, not something you get simply by eating a human. -

That at least has *some* backing to it, as it's totally possible for rotten fruit to lead to food poisoning symptoms such as nausea, dizziness, diarrhea, headache, etc. so I don't really mind that they lump it together as "sick". It's not a great idea IRL to eat rotten fruit either and the game reflects that. Who knows, but immunity is also a totally real and possible thing. Certain genetic mutations (already existing within populations) could have hypothetically led to immunity to the virus and thus been a naturally selected trait. Certainly, and some of your examples I hope to be changed in the future such as being unable to move while drinking or eating or infinite running. You can move during the light flare animation so I imagine that animations will be smoother as development progresses. Running/sprinting already has quite the drawback now that movement effects your temperature and therefore causes excessive sweating and finally leads to greater hydration needs. Maybe there will be even more to combat infinite running in the future. The fictitious creatures part I don't mind. As long as there's some sort of backing to support it from a semi-scientific standpoint I'm happy. I just imagine it as a rage-type virus that's similar to rabies but doesn't kill the host so quick. But many of these are trivial flaws in terms of realism/authenticity which there will always be in even the most realistic of video games. I feel as though the cannibal system brain sickness is a larger component of the game and thus needs to make a *bit* more sense, that's all. Thanks for the respectful reply. :)
