Sure, you could run back to your body and get your shit. Seen it a few times on build 30.114008. Eidit: Nevermind, I'm late anyway. :) -
We NEED some way to identify heros and bandits.
solodude23 replied to 1S1K-Airborne's topic in General Discussion
I think you're forgetting that adding the blood bag/drawing blood in itself is a more realistic/authentic than not having it at all considering you have a blood level in this game. Just like how NOT having a marker on your arm to tell people your intentions is more realistic. Also, you can go hours without eating if you properly feed yourself. Again, you don't starve in an hour unless you were already not in good shape. Maybe you should watch the stomach/water/energy explanation video if you haven't already. All being said, I almost never KoS. I have yet to be in a situation that required it due to my adjusted style of play. After my first few days of playing and getting KoSd I finally adjusted my playstyle and my last character has been alive for several days now. I only thought I'd mention this because the humanity system supporters seem to think those who oppose it all love to KoS. I simply love the tension and mystery surrounding player interaction that makes the game what it is. Off to go help some new spawns. -
[POLL] - 3PP / 1PP and seeing round corners
solodude23 replied to floj's topic in General Discussion
I really don't care what happens to tension deficit 3PP servers as long as I have my 1PP to play on. -
Morgan Freeman brings salvation to DayZ. [VIDEO]

Watched all three, loved all three. Even my brother who doesn't play DayZ was laughing. Great stuff! :beans: -

So in other words, it didn't work. Edit: Didn't see your other post :) I completely agree with the underlined portion, but I still can't agree on the method. I do believe that when the game evolves and more content and mechanics are added, as well as more (dangerous) zombies, people will be more keen on making friends or at least having friendly interactions. Players will become more experienced as time goes on as well, and I think along with that comes the ability to handle situations without KoS. There will always be SOME KoSers and bandits, but really - they're all just different survivors. :) -
Why do I keep spawning in the same place?
solodude23 replied to Baby Jesus (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Yeah, but with the scale of the map and the number of towns/cities there are tons of places to possibly spawn so the likelyhood of them spawning at your city isn't all that high. I kind of like the idea of spawning everywhere. Might be Cherno...might be some tiny town in the middle of nowhere. However, I think key places like airfields and military bases should have a fairly good size area around them that you cannot spawn in. On the flip side, I kind of like the feeling of traveling away from my roots, away from where I know people will be common. When up northwest it's almost a feeling of true adventure and vastness. When you run into someone you know they've been through quite the travel just like yourself. I can see how that could possibly be taken away by people spawning up there. Perhaps it could be something along the lines of spawning anywhere within 2km of a beach, aside from Ballota and NEAF. -

I don't reply to insults. And from what I've seen in this thread, that's all you throw around at those who disagree with you. Not an efficient way to get your point across. -
So why do people refuse being held up?
solodude23 replied to Mays (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I got you man, I was just trying to explain why people are hesitant to be held up or even ordered to do something. As far as they know, likely based on their own experience, someone with a gun will most likely kill them regardless of them complying or not. This has happened to me more often than not when I have complied, which is 100% of the time when I'm in a bad position. I prefer to play the game as if my life IS the most valuable asset; I believe that's the point of the game to a large extent. Unfortunately, at this point in the game, life itself has no meaning beyond the gear on your back and how far you've traveled. As a result, even a medium-well equipped player might prefer to take the risk of not complying when at the very worst he will simply respawn and regather the same supplies in 30min. -

solodude23 replied to 1S1K-Airborne's topic in General Discussion
I see people continuously arguing about the size of said indicator which is completely besides the point. The point is that the interactions will be dumbed down to finding said indicator rather than actually having to assess each interaction on a case-to-case basis. (Aka, it takes player interaction OUT of the game) We don't need to label players. That's silly. Players and clans can label themselves using the clothes they find but should never be forced to wear something based on play style. KoS will die down as the game develops by introducing more things to do, more zombies, OTHER mechanics, etc. -

This argument seems rather invalid to me for a game designed to be at least semi-authentic/realistic. Why stop there? In RL you can't fly so might as well throw it in the video game cause it's cool! And guns should shoot rockets too, cause it's not RL! The "real life" argument seems quite valid in the case of the bandit/hero skins. Why would a bandit of any sort choose to be identified by some generic "bandit" label? We should only be judged by our actions in-game and not what we wear. If bandits in the game just so happen to dress in a certain way, so be it. Don't force them to. Life isn't black and white and DayZ shouldn't be either. -
So why do people refuse being held up?
solodude23 replied to Mays (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Very constructive of you. To OP: I think it's a combination of variables here. Newer/fresh spawns don't have much of anything to lose. For this reason: - They don't mind dying as much. Might even get a good spawn out of it. - There is a chance that they can get the upper hand and get your gear or at least escape. - You might not have ammo (as far as they know) These three points are magnified by the following: -Out of the times I've been held up and complied, only once was I not killed afterwards anyway. I can see why people would rather not give their undamaged gear away to someone who they think will kill them anyway. In the future, I hope more will be done to make players value their life beyond gear and location. Considering DayZ's an "authentic" game, something down the line surely needs to make the idea of death more authentic. -
Seems kind of inhumane to slaughter them knowing they're just sick people.
solodude23 replied to six_ten's topic in General Discussion
I figure if the zombie virus was easily curable with antibiotics/antivirals it wouldn't have led to the apocalypse to begin with. Also I figure the human body can't come back from that state. The body can't really "live" after being in that condition - basically dead. -
when vehicles are implemented people will still complain about it just like they do for 3PP
solodude23 replied to gamer222's topic in General Discussion
Won't first-person view servers also be first-person restricted in vehicles? Hope so. -
I never played the original, why is there 3rd person?
solodude23 replied to infiltrator's topic in General Discussion
Just as long as you realize that the opposing player likely isn't using first person so you're putting yourself at a disadvantage in terms of situational awareness. -
Bought the game after watching a few videos.

He's not the only one that didn't die in the church. Beyond that I don't know what to believe myself, but examples =/= proof. Haven't seen any proof. -
HARDCORE - 3PP:OFF server/tactics/general
solodude23 replied to wild_man's topic in General Discussion
I wish that ArmA used a number in degrees like Battlefield when it comes to representing the field of view. I have mine set to 90deg in BF4 and in DayZ I have the bar at about halfway... Anyone know what this represents? Not to reference BF4 again....but I also highly favor the new aim leaning/peaking over the standard Q/E leaning that many games of the past and present have shared. Not only was it easier for me to initialize, but it also made it much easier to adjust lean and even edge around the corner while leaning. Not to mention it frees up two keys. I only mentioned the above in this topic because they both seem more important when in first person only servers. -
Okay here's the problem : Gear Hoarding
solodude23 replied to onebadbasterd's topic in General Discussion
Can't say this has ever happened to me but being as it's an alpha, losing my gear due to a bug is one of my last worries. -
Are you referring to the white dot in the tree line to the left? I'm somewhat hesitant to call that a muzzle flash but then again I wouldn't really be the one to know with my experience.

First person only players need to band together
solodude23 replied to Dagwood's topic in General Discussion
Exactly! It doesn't even feel like a firefight. Just gotta run back n fourth in 3rd person until you see them make the mistake of looking/exposing themselves before you. It's silly. -
First person only players need to band together
solodude23 replied to Dagwood's topic in General Discussion
Finally got into my first real firefight the other day in DayZ SA. First let me say this - I've never played much OFP or ArmA and therefore never played the DayZ mod. However, I knew they were simulators. When I began watching some videos of DayZ, I was flabbergasted by the fact that a magical 3rd person view is possible in such a gritty, realistic, (authentic) game. I can't even believe it was available in ArmA. The same game that requires you to maintain your hunger and thirst levels allows you to literally see over and around walls. So anyway. My first firefight. After finally getting fully geared up in the Northwest, I decided to head back to my spawning roots in Elektro and help out the fresh spawns and engage any KoSers. When I finally arrive, I first scout out the city from a hill not too far away. After not seeing any movement, I carefully move into the city and enter the hospital. Once I get towards the to the 3rd floor I meet a new spawn and give him my sidearm with 1 mag and no ammo along with some food and a full canteen to help him along. He thanked me. Next I run into a guy scouting the city from the top of the industrial building. He had no weapon and I offered goods but he politely declined and after a quick chat I moved out. I spotted at least 1 other fresh spawn in the city but didn't make contact. I then move to the west side of the city just behind a fence and hear a series of gunshots stemming from just west. One fresh spawn to my left drops in the street. After I hold still using 3rd person to scout his direction (while not actually having to expose myself) I run into the guy from the industrial building. He volunteers to be bait and runs out to the right and nothing. After he comes back to me, he runs over to the fresh spawn's body to loot and is gunned down. I finally was able to see the helmet of the gunman who is nestled between a house and shed type building., but from my position there was no way to move in on him without being shot. I knew that he'd be able to see me move up in 3rd person even though I wouldn't be able to see him. I attempt to move slightly closer to the right and shots wizz past my head before I panic back to my wall. After another 3rd person standoff, I try to move around the far right side of a building on my street (I'm very limited in cover). I'm moving carefully as to not make too much noise from my footsteps. But before I can react, he quickly pops his head out and shoots me - quick enough to make it evident he spotted me in 3rd person first. I got a bit carried away with my story there because a lot of the experience was awesome but my main focus is while I often find myself using 3rd person as it's available, in my opinion it completely destroys the mechanics of firefights and maneuvering. It turns such events, when in the right environment, to a battle of "who has the better unrealistic view". Idk. I know it's not intended to be a shooter and I like that it's not, but I enjoy a shooter where if you see the enemies' eyes, you know he can see yours as well. First person makes for more realistic scouting, room clearing, corner checking, and of course firefights. Needless to say I'm on the bandwagon. Sidenote: What do you all have your field of view set at? -
Once I found 2 right next to eachother at a barn south of Solnichniy just west of the few buildings along the road.

Do our characters not have immune systems?
solodude23 replied to Really Old Man's topic in General Discussion
Have you stayed plenty fed & watered? Anytime you're thirsty or hungry at all its a bad thing and you're less susceptible to sickness if you stay pretty full. Alcohol has worked for me to clean my wounds after getting sick from being scratched. Also vitamins will reduce the risk of getting sick.
