SO EXCITED. When I woke up I was saddened to find that the server maintenance is delayed till Friday. But now it seems as though experimental might get a new patch today! Fingers crossed!

Can you post a link to a DayZDB map location of the forest? It would be greatly appreciated! I probs wont be able to make it as my char has a broken leg and I'm far north, but it might help others who can't find it like me. :D Edit: FOUND IT! http://dayzdb.com/map#5.109.081

Why co-operate if you're gonna get shot anyways?
solodude23 replied to Goddam Firestations's topic in General Discussion
I've survived more than once when surrendering. BAM ruined your statistic. :) Only been held up twice ever actually, but I decided to comply both times and survived. -
(Sociology) Rocket: DayZ is Fundamentally Flawed, and I Agree - Here is Why.
solodude23 replied to kroms001's topic in General Discussion
This is exactly what they're doing. Give it time. The survival element will be greatly increased when confirmed features such as the following are added. -sickness -polluted water -working medical supplies -hunting -player temp/rain effecting temp -cooking -more, dangerous zombies -respawning loot -base building -etc -
It's full of ignorant, search function deficit members.... and then the other members who are sick of seeing the exact same questions and comments. After replying thoughtfully and seriously several times, people get severely tired of repeating themselves like an idiot when someone will ask the exact same question the next day. I can't blame em too much! :P

Getting pretty sick of seeing different threads with the same subject over and over. Also, alpha :P And I'm being serious. It's way too early to determine how survival tactics and players' humanity will work in the final product when we still have the bare bones, limited capability version of the game. Give it time. -
Do you believe people who shoot on sight are terrible at DayZ?
solodude23 replied to GriefSlicer (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I wasn't meaning to infer that you get KoS'd a lot, but rather that it's less likely to happen on hardcore in my experience. Gotcha, I hadn't read through the entire thread after seeing it was mostly semi-disguised insults being thrown back and fourth. I agree, if it wasn't for KoS I probably wouldn't find the game thrilling enough at this point to continue playing. But my point was that if you move slowly, using proper cover, it's much less likely you'll get KoS. Your own experience has apparently backed my point, as you have successfully lived over ~40 hours. My main point still stands: If you get killed on sight, you were in sight. All in all, minimizing the amount of time you are in sight has a direct effect on the likelihood of getting killed on sight. I never stated that you can play the game without ever exposing yourself or that you have full control of the situation all of the time. That'd be silly. However, from my own experience I know damn well that not everyone plays this carefully, and as a result, they get KoS and post threads about it. :P -
This thread has a neat (though glitchy) vid of what happens when you fire of a shot in Svetlo! http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/177517-its-like-the-zombies-never-end/ Also: Back on one of the first patches I ran into a fairly large (5-6) group of zombies roaming around in the woods. Unfortunately it was before I used online maps and I'm not sure where it occured.

solodude23 replied to GriefSlicer (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
How is that BS? It's true. Always take the long route if it has more cover. If you've exposed yourself "many many times" then there's your issue! You certainly don't have to expose yourself. If you need food or water, visit smaller cities and lone water pumps. It certainly will get better once hunting is in, but it's not impossible at the moment. I haven't been KOS'd in a LONG time. Why? I stopped looting military bases, stay out cities to the east, and stick to the woods. I recommend playing Hardcore if you don't wanna get KOS'd so much either. Moving tactically, especially when in cities, is much more rewarding when no one can spot you over fences and around corners. (edited for your edit) -
[HUGE][Cracking DayZ open] What should you expect, and PROOF.
solodude23 replied to res's topic in General Discussion
Just a heads up if no one has already said it: That little town to the West of Svetlo (here) is already in-game. (Though it's not shown on DayZDB yet) -

Being KOS'd doesn't make them a bad player, it makes me a bad player for not minding my surroundings! :o In order to be killed on sight you have to be in sight. ;) -
Hunting, vehicles, multiple maps, hordes, wow
solodude23 replied to deebz1234's topic in General Discussion
Can't say I liked the look of that based on the video. Seems as though one of the few zombies in DayZ puts you at a greater risk than a horde in that game so far. And a humanity system....ewwwww. I'll stick to DayZ. -
Should The Alpha Disclaimer Let The Game Off The Hook?
solodude23 replied to Prag's topic in General Discussion
So you're stating that in order for it to be an alpha it HAS to be internal? That's the only factor in determining the stage of a game? The only thing you stated that I agree with is that "alphas are typically an internal release". Typically, meaning in some cases alphas are not internal, as such is the case with DayZ. Also, betas don't have "frequent content releases" because they are in the beta stage of development. You know what does have frequent content releases? Alpha version. I assume you've been involved in the development of many alphas, then? -
Should The Alpha Disclaimer Let The Game Off The Hook?
solodude23 replied to Prag's topic in General Discussion
In order to have to pay for it, you have to buy it. Nobody forced anybody to buy it. If anything, the DEV team tried there best to convince you NOT to buy (and subsequently pay for) it. If I wanted a playable, complete, bug-free, game I'd have bought the full game when it released or bought the game during alpha and not played it until the game was complete. I, however, was more than delighted to be able to participate in the development of the game while also getting the final version at a lower cost. I don't get it. It's win-win. I read the rest of your post and found your points to be moot based on the fact than you didn't have to buy it. We're lucky the development team has been so great at listening to the community and working to make the alpha more playable for it's fan base despite the fact that they don't even have to. -
Should The Alpha Disclaimer Let The Game Off The Hook?
solodude23 replied to Prag's topic in General Discussion
Answer to the title: During the alpha, yes. -
The last time I played .37 it didn't rain the entire ~2 hours I was on. It couldn't be that bad. Rain is awesome anyway.

I wish more people thought like this. I don't look down about those who play 3PP. I don't think I'm anymore "elite" for playing 1PP. But, I know for a fact that the "combat" in 3PP servers is dumbed down beyond belief and is nothing more than an advanced game of peek-a-boo with guns. If people like 3PP, that's fine, but they MUST not care much about the game in terms of having more tactical PvP. Also, I don't like it when people say the FoV in 1PP is too small. It's the exact same FoV as in 3rd person. Try it. The only differences is the camera is placed behind and above the player, thus creating an illusion that the FoV is wider. Plus it's adjustable anyway.

That's awesome to hear! I stuck around for a while too. About 5 min later I ran into another fresh spawn closer to the docks, helped him with some zeds, then headed to the hills/cliffside to the north where I saw a 3rd fresh spawn who was bleeding and getting chased by a few more zeds. Took some shots from there, you might have heard them. Traveled west to this area and found that it's a pretty populated (though zombieless) city now! Broke my leg in it. :)

I don't care who plays what, but 1PP will always be the choice for me after starting in 3PP. The "tactics" I encountered in 3PP servers all surrounded the ability to see around corners/over ledges without having to expose yourself. It just felt silly. This entirely alters combat and, in my opinion, ruins it. As a result, using proper tactics and moving stealthily in 1PP, I've found, is much more rewarding to the player. Camping is also a less useful tactic, because in order to camp in 1PP you have to be exposed to begin with. No longer can you prone on a roof and see the whole city, just waiting to pop a shot at the first guy you see. Ridiculous. All-in-all, combat feels much more balanced and, well, immersive. I can, however, understand the dislike for 1PP due to things like mouse acceleration and clunky controls. (Though honestly the clunky controls and mouse accel are just the same in 3PP, people are just used to it there)

I live in the US and there always seems to be at least a few hardcore servers with a pretty high server pop. That's all I need!
-
That's me! :D I was hoping I'd run into this video..I forgot to ask you where you were going to post it. It's too bad I'm all glitched out from your perspective haha. No mad skills though, just trigger happy for some Zeds! Where you end up heading after we split? I don't think so man, I'd never seen so many in one city even before we started killing em. Plus at the end they stopped showing up and I didn't any see more till a bit later. Sure is fun though! :D

Hasn't worked for me thus far. -
just tried experimental branch don't see the option for SSOA and stuff
solodude23 replied to bioned's topic in General Discussion
Yeah somewhat, though even that may be a bit better. For the most part there's just more of them and some sort of placeholder respawn system. Was getting chased by Zeds in Svetlo just a little bit ago and ran upstairs in one of the piano buildings. Four of them fuckers followed me up there - I had to open fire.
