Nighttime NW Airfield Encounter (Story)
Morgasm (DayZ) replied to Morgasm (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
Thank you kind gents. -
After logging back onto a server I had been playing on about 4 hours earlier I noticed that I was missing a good deal of loot. An alpha glitch or something deleted all of my 5.56 rounds from my backpack (not my gun clip though) as well as a map and a few other things. Before I had logged off I had just gotten done doing a rare no-contact sweep of NWAF. So, I had to trudge back about 2 KM to get back some necessities that I had lost from the glitch. I arrived at the western end with all the military tents. I began to look through some tents when I noticed a shine coming from a flashlight while looking through my inventory. I instinctively ran out of the tent on the opposite side from which I had seen the light and hid behind some barricades. This was a non-3rd person server so I peeked over the barricades but could not see the player. So I set up a "lure" to attract him. I had an unattached weapon flashlight in my inventory that I had saved just for this. I put said weapon flashlight down on the ground inside of a tent whilst turned on. If the player approached the flashlight without saying a warning word and in a way that I deemed "sneaky" I'd deem him hostile (because he would be sneaking up on a player, presumably to kill him). I took position with just my head sticking over a barricade. Within 3 minutes I noticed the player I had seen turn off his flashlight in the distance and approach the tent I had placed my flashlight in. He stopped short of getting close to it and instead went prone looking at the entrance at an angle. I assumed he was waiting for someone to walk out so he could kill them. I aimed up and took a few shots. No problem there, an easy kill. While looting his body I noticed an absurd amount of weapon attachments and ammo (500+ rounds!!!). I took my fill of what hadn't been ruined by my bullets and set off. - Killed a Server Hopper? - Got fat loot - M4 is now pimped Standalone has been pretty great so far! Time to go explore the upper north seeing that I won't be needing much anytime soon. Cheers!

Reasons why I like the idea of first person only: - No 3rd person "peeking" over obstacles - Forces players to be more cautious - More paranoia, takes players out of their "comfort zone" - Realism (Kinda self-explanatory) - With a lack of awareness, people may tend to want a buddy to play with more often (e.g. spotter for sniping) Cons - Cannot look over shoulder without your view being obstructed by clothes/backpack - Cannot see on top of high shelves where loot might be hiding - I want to see my character occasionally, what he/she looks like (inventory?) Those are what I came up off the top of my head. I'm a player who prefers realism over anything else. What are your thoughts? Do you think first-person only might become more common?

Zombies should have MUCH more HP than humans
Morgasm (DayZ) replied to andrestor's topic in General Discussion
Before we start going on about increasing zombie HP... How about we make sure they stop walking through walls/doors/etc... Who wants tougher zombies right now when they can already materialize through just about anything? I think it's common sense that the devs are at some point going to make the zombies a tougher aspect of the game. Give it time. -
What, exactly, is the point of this game?
Morgasm (DayZ) replied to Zascha-Geriko's topic in General Discussion
For some reason I spawned as a middle aged Hispanic woman. So I'm calling her Consuela (family guy reference) and hoarding all of the anti-bacterial spray I can find and imagining it's lemon pledge. Eventually I shall make a clan full of maids and disinfect all of Chernarus in a holy spray of lemony goodness. -
I would certainly be for this. The more incentives there are for people to work together the better.

So what you're saying is that your character has a post-apocalyptic skill-set/profession? Example: Military/Veteran: Increased skill with guns and more athletic. (spawns with a handgun) Hunter: Can create traps and spawns with hunting equipment (e.g. hunting knife) Native Civilian: Knows his way around Chernarus like the back of his hand (this would be good for new people, but lacks any items given at the start) Doctor/Nurse: Increased ability when using medical supplies, can create medical supplies. (begins with a few basic medical supplies) Mechanic: Can salvage vehicles more efficiently and doesn't require nearly as many supplies and spawns with a wrench Hiker: Spawns with a large backpack and some basic survival tools, doesn't tire as easily (like a compass and water purification pills) These are just a few ideas but you could decide which one adheres to your play style the best. For instance if you prefer to go be a cooperative player you could be a Doctor or Mechanic. If you are a player whose more of a lone wolf you could be a hiker or a hunter because they're more suited to surviving. Thoughts?

Your creepiest expirience in Standalone so far
Morgasm (DayZ) replied to jimmy_rustlers's topic in New Player Discussion
Was searching under a bed for food during nighttime. Heard footsteps tried to turn around but at that point it was too late. As I stood up a player ambushed me and stabbed me about 4-5 times during the animation with a screwdriver or something while shouting over his mic. I had my volume up pretty loud so I jumped out of my skin. I somehow managed to blindly charge out of the building. My character was bleeding pretty badly so I had to stop in some bushes. Unfortunately for me I had foolishly left my flashlight on. He spotted me quite easily and dealt a final blow to the head. My heat-rate was through the roof by the end of this. R.I.P. I tried. If you let me know what's wrong I'd remove it. If it has already been posted for the most part then just ask for it to be removed. -
Realism and Weapons [Balanced or Realistic?]
Morgasm (DayZ) replied to ProGamerGov's topic in General Discussion
Something that always bugged me in the Day Z mod was the abundance of helicopters, vehicles, auto-fuel, crazy loot tables, and etc. I think that Day Z should try its best to be realistic about the weapons that are available in game while at the same time keeping them a bit balanced. I think players that are willing to take risks to grab better loot should be rewarded. Which to some extent has been accomplished with high-traffic military bases containing the best loot. To me .50 cal snipers and fully armed helicopters are a bit absurd. Of course I would expect sniper rifles, assault rifles, shotguns, and pistols to be lying about. But seriously... a helicopter? What type of percentage of people know how to pilot a helicopter? -
I've played about 8 hours on a single character now after dying four times within 2 hours beforehand. I've learned quite a bit about the alpha since beginning and I'm here to share my hard-learned lessons! - Do not raise (press space bar) your melee weapon when attempting to hit anything. I've found that if you leave your weapon un-raised that it is far more accurate. If you do raise your weapon your hit box will become unreliable. - Certain foods dehydrate/re-hydrate you. For instance sardines will hydrate you and a box of dry cereal won't. - Even if you don't find a can opener you can still open cans. Simply put an ax/screwdriver into your hands and go to your inventory and right-click on a canned item. It will give you the option to open it. I died on my second character because of starvation... If I had only known. Note: If you use an ax/screwdriver you will drop some of your food onto the ground. This makes having a can opener incredibly advantageous so keep an eye out! - Based on my personal experience you cannot find the largest backpack (mountaineer) in non-military buildings. Search firehouses, military bases, airports, etc. - If you're bleeding and have no bandages simply tear your shirt into rags. Go to your inventory, right-click on your shirt and there's an option to tear it into rags. - DO NOT CARRY AROUND: Shotgun shells (there aren't any in the alpha yet) Note: I could very well be wrong about there being no shotguns in the game, however I have yet to find one ANYWHERE. I have been all over the map in hundreds of buildings and have yet to see one, including on another survivor. - In my experience the ax is the strongest melee weapon in the game. Only takes 1-2 hits to kill a zombie. - If you log in and have a blurry screen simply open up your menu and click on video settings. That instantly fixes it for me. - You cannot access the contents of portable cases/ammo boxes in your inventory. You need to drop them first. This makes them a bit of a liability issue. - There are no animals yet, stock up on beans! - While loading bullets into the M4 the bullets will sometimes "disappear" into your inventory. Move around your items a bit. I found that sometimes they are just being overlapped by another item. Yay for alpha :) - If you're having problems loading bullets/ attaching attachments into an M4 magazine here's a checklist for you. - Is the magazine still attached to the gun? Remove it and then load your bullets via drag and drop into the mag. - Did your magazine disappear when re-attaching it to your gun? Attach another magazine to your gun. The magazine you tried to attach should reappear attached to your gun. - Do you already have another magazine attached? (I seriously spent 20 minutes before figuring this out hurrr durr) - If you would like to swap out an attachment with your M4 with one that is currently on the ground simply open up your inventory (tab) while standing over said M4. There should be a table with the attachments under the M4 in the inventory menu. Right-click on the attachment you desire and click the "swap out" option. I hope this has been of help to at least somebody. Happy surviving!
