To begin, I've played some of DayZ mod for Arma II and I thought of it as: Not too shabby. The thing that really annoyed me were .50cal snipers w/ rangefinders. I still hate them DayZ SA somewhat fixed that problem. No long range engagements unless one finds a Mosin Nagant w/ pristine PU scope, which is rare. Not to mention, bullets for the gun. My first impression was: My God, it changed. The game ran well (better than before), there sky scrapers, and I could make my own character which was really neat. The game was difficult. I had no idea that rotten kiwi's were so deadly. I finally could use fists, but, they were as effective as wet tissues when it comes to killing. What I was dissapointed by was A: non-respawning loot(really a problem with a finite amount of servers, does make survival so much more exciting) B: Glitchy zombies and C: Empty deerstands and barns and D: Lack of tutorials for different status effects, controls, etc. I know, it's the Alpha, the game is bound to be buggy. The rest of the game was great however. Little snipers, transferrable characters, people that don't KOS all the time, moderately easy access to mid-high end loot, killer kiwi's, you name it. I did kill some people in my playthrough. One person asked to die and the other one was shot dead after he assaulted a random person that I've fed, clothed and befrended. I died too, once by the hands of a unknown assaliant, twice by zombies, twice by suicide from lighthouses, once by the bandits friends, and once from the rotten kiwi. The game was really enjoyable. The part I liked a lot was the scenery. You run outdoors and watch the well scaped landscape in the horizont. I also really liked the ability to enter most homes (some churches remain closed, like the one in Novy Sobor). Overall, really fun would recommend for 30 dollars if you like this kind of game. If I was to rate it out of 10, i'd give it a 7-8/10. Job well done. -Lord Fancypantaloons
