Not necessarily true, but true none the less. I and my wife happened to work over Christmas and Thanksgiving in highly technical jobs where we ramp down but continue production during these times. We may not be fully staffed but there are still people working. Some jobs the equipment is complicated or fussy and shutting it down for a day means a few days to a week to recover. Although programmers and game designers don't have the same excuse and should take the time to spend with families.

Depends on the server. Sometimes I desynch frequently switch servers and fine. A buddy was so badly desynched we could see him, watch him move around and interact with him, but he could not see us standing right in front of him. Same thing happened with another buddy on a different server I could see him but he could not see me, seems really dangerous.

Item list for items with limited to no use + Tips and Rumors
Avengerki replied to IIvIIozzie's topic in General Discussion
So sticks can be used with rags to splint broken legs. Portable Gas Stove combined with butane gas tank and then placed on ground and ignited with matches. Place cooking pot on portable gas stove and then heat cans of food in pot or add water and rice. Although we have yet to find a cooking pot when we have the stove to try it out. Fire Axe can also be used to open cans of food(but messy), have not tried with other axe's. Books are for reading but I have been unable to get past the first set of pages yet. -
Dang it why is it when I decided to start using an achronym it has gone out of style. Sheesh and I use to be so up on it. I still love how everyone uses LOL as in Lots of Laughter, before this thing called an internet and people wrote things called letters LOL stood for lots of love.

Are you sure no one force fed you disinfectant while you were afk or something? I have gotten the sick notification in my inventory quite frequently after using alcohol on my wounds or after taking antibiotics, but it goes away. If you do get sick from something make sure to stay hydrated as being sick you use your water up faster I have noticed along with hunger. Or maybe while you were worrying about how to cure your sickness someone snuck up behind you and took you out with a fire ax to the head.

Realism and Weapons [Balanced or Realistic?]
Avengerki replied to ProGamerGov's topic in General Discussion
I like realism in my guns and play. Each time a new zombie survival simulator game comes out I want to try it to see if it meets my expectations. Dayz is pretty good, where it kinda sucks is the constant pvp killing I would like to think IRL we would not be constantly killing each other on sight over a can opener. In the Walking Dead the Govenor was two faced and I kinda liked that, he may kidnap people and either let them join him or if he thought they were a threat kill them but he didn't always kill on sight unless the group he came on had a resource he wanted. He built a community where people could live a normal life while those who liked killing could take care of the zombies and protect them. I would like to be able to make a community but know that probably won't happen in DayZ as how it is in my head. State of Decay is a great concept also for zombie survival and follows DayZ some in terms of realism but it does have a community you can build and protect and limited ammo and weapons to find. Need to find resources to build stuff, people get sick, need to secure food that type of stuff. Some groups of people you run into just want to kill you, some want to be left alone, others want your help but remain seperate and then there are those who join you. Except for it being single player(although that may have changed since I last played it) it has many aspects I like and many I don't. DayZ is the same, it has different aspects I like but lacks some others. -
Eating and Drinking is way too frequent
Avengerki replied to lunatik20's topic in General Discussion
I go to my fridge whenever I get hungry and I keep a 2-liter next to me at the desk to drink from when I get thirsty. In game I have gone an hour or two after getting stuffed on food and water before even seeing a thirsty message pop up. If I get fully stuffed and have the healthy showing I just every once in a while eat something but I spam the wells when I hit them. If I look and I don't have healthy showing anymore I go ahead and eat and drink more until it does. Also if I got hit by a zombie or something and was bleeding I eat a can or two of food along with drinking fluids to replenish my blood supply and keeps me healthy. -
While the spawn rate on these does seem rediculous right now I mostly point at the small number of weapons and ammo for it to spawn. I find it hilarious running around with an M4, 6-60 round clips and 2 ammo cans full of ammo and then running into a place and gunning down all the zeds as they start running up to me. Yes I said zeds, I don't like killing other players unless they surprise me around a corner or come charging at me with a weapon drawn. I have noticed that the food and drink items have been spawning more in some military type locations instead of ammo and attachments. Although that could just be random chance too.

In general those games were being developed alongside the previous release or just after they got a working product. Also alot of these games tend to use the same base engine with some minor improvements to decrease time to market. They spend more time on artwork and in game graphics over improving the base engine. The if it aint broke don't fix it mentality basically. Taking a base engine and modifying it more torwards a specific concept can take more time over general improvements. The change from being a mod to a stand alone may seem like it shouldn't be all that much but now they are going in and trying to implement the portions of the mod into the base engine while increasing the security measures to prevent cheating. This can take time and sometimes when you implement something that should be a piece of cake it really turns into a forest of razor wire.

Stuck, through building and cannot get out :(
Avengerki replied to Letholdus92's topic in New Player Discussion
I like running at an angle to the wall until you glitch back through. Sometimes it works other times you just keep going in a square. -
My buddies and I have noticed that sometimes when you get desynched we may be able to see you but you can't see us and we can still interact with you. The axe makes gun sounds when you hit a solid object with it.

Your creepiest expirience in Standalone so far
Avengerki replied to jimmy_rustlers's topic in New Player Discussion
Laying down in the middle of the forest at night. Decided I wanted to mess with my sound settings since I had not done it ever. Go to turn up the master volume and hear a gun shot followed by the zombie sound. I go great quit out of the menus and start listening very hard for any sounds, don't hear anything after 5 minutes so go back into settings and adjust the effects volume only to have the same thing happen again and then I started laughing after I realized why I heard the sound. Another one I was laying on the floor of a house eating a can of beans, hear the zombie sound outside and think great another player is nearby and then this half of a zombie starts coming torwards me through the wall with half its body below the floor. -
Your first encounter with a player in SA
Avengerki replied to Herkon's topic in New Player Discussion
My first encounter was within 1 minute of my first login but was not really productive. I spawned on the east coast and saw a house, went into it searching for anything and went up to the second floor to find a dead body on the floor. I had no idea how to loot from the person so just left the house and headed in a random direction away from the coast since I had heard the coast was dangerous. My next encounter was actually with my friends from work so I don't really count it. The third encounter was I was in the prison at green mountain in the cell. I was grabbing something and I hear "oh sh**" as the login reloading sound happens turn around and there is a guy standing there and then disappears fairly quickly. That kinda scared me so I ran back upstairs then logged out and went to bed. The next day I logged back in pulled my M4 out just in case and went downstairs with plans to leave just as I rounded the corner a guy with a fire axe comes charging out of the cell at me and I quickly fire off a number of rounds killing him and then he disappeared before I could get any loot off of him. My latest on was the other day I was exploring Devil's Castle and had climbed the scaffolding and was walking along the ledge only to suddenly get thrust into the air as I hit a small projection and fell to my death. When I went to respawn had to leave the server and joined a different one since I have issues remember what server I was on. It was night and I could hear the coast behind me, turned around and sure enough that was the coast. Head away from it and came across the train tracks decided to follow the to the left which turned out to be west as I wanted to figure out where I was. After running along for a little while I noticed some camouflage netting obscuring the night sky on my right and thought sweet a military tent place. Went in and decided it was really way to dark to see so hooked up and turned on my flashlight and start looking not finding anything in the first tent but the I hear some indescribable voice say something, and then a little closer saying again what sounded like "get on the ground" and then the guy appeared in my flashlight beam. He started to repeat it again so I turned around, aimed myself at the entrance to the tent, shutoff the flashlight and then got out of the tent and turned, put away my flashlight and started sprinting around tents hearing him start letting off multiple bursts but completely missing me. Around in the dark I stumbled and when I found the sky obscured by a tree I was in laid down logged off and went to bed with my heart still pounding. I really don't like to do KoS but it just seems like everyone I run into outside of my friends start attacking right away. I can understand being leary but if they don't have a weapon out why kill them on site, it ruins the loot anyway. I like the prisoner idea, but still don't want to be one.
