    Morphine.

    I used to find it in towns before 1.7.1.5 Nothing since though and I avoid the cities.
  2. Never in my life have I played a game that has caused me to feel this frustrated. Better still is that this frustration is built into the game as a major mechanic. I'm not going to judge whether that's right or wrong - that's not up to me. But here is how the last 2 days of Dayz have gone for me since 1.7.1.5: Most times, spawn - try to find supplies, aggro a zombie, die. My latest life though was quite different. i decided this time to hit the outskirts of Electro - not something I do normally. I was rewarded with a bigger bag, loads of food, painkillers, bandages and an axe. Aswell as a few close scrapes and some blood loss. I left Electro with nothing to drink and I was getting desperate. I managed to keep myself going by finding the odd can of soda. This turned into my major goal - find a drink. It was my only reason to enter a town. It was while I was searching yet another seemingly dry town that my luck turned. It must have been at least the 10th town I had searched and like all the previous ones it didn't have any water bottles and maybe 1 can of pop to keep me going. This one though was bone dry and I was heading to the last building on the road praying it had a drink or I would probably end up dead. I opened the door to the small shed and saw it contained 3 things - a can of Pepsi, a zombie and and a fully functional motorcycle... 1 zombie and can of Pepsi downed I checked out the bike; it was nearly out of gas but ran. I made tracks down the road and came across a large town, hid the bike and started searching for drink.. and gas. This town was the jackpot. 2 full water bottles, a well, a sidearm to go with my axe, a watch and more meds. No fuel for the bike though. No biggie, my main task was complete - I was almost self sufficient. I went back to my bike and bimbled around for a bit until I came across a barn - you know the type that nearly always have a jerrycan in... it also had zombies inside. I snuck in killed a couple of the Zeds with my trusty axe and spied a jerrycan up the steps. This is were it all goes wrong. I knew there was a zombie behind some crates in the barn, I could hear the thing breathing. I was slowing creaping around the boxes intending to smash it over the head with my axe and end it so I could loot the barn in peace. The zombie had other ideas. He ran through the crates directly at me, hit me once and broke my leg. I hit him with the axe and killed it but now I had a problem. In all my scavenging I had not come across any morphine and I couldn't walk. I couldn't even crawl up the steps to the can of gas and get back to my bike and the effort of trying attracted another zombie who quickly knocked me out and started eating me. That's when it hit me - all the effort of going from town to town searching for a can of drink, all the time I spent gathering supplies, all the risks I had taken and everything I had gained was now wasted effort. I was going to die in this barn. So, there's a few things that I noticed during that playthrough - Foremost is the apparent shortage of drinks. I don't know if I just got unlucky, but I found it very difficult to keep myself in fluids. It was while I was running between towns after another fruitless search that it occured to me - in that enviroment there should be no way a person can die from lack of fluids. Water is everwhere and it rains nearly all the time. We need some sort of mechanism that allows us to drink directly from lakes or collect rain water. The axe is a mighty PvE weapon. But you do run a greater risk of getting injured when you use it. I think it's perfectly balanced. The only thing rarer than drink is morphine... and pistols. During my travels I saw a scoped sniper rifle, countless Winchesters and LeeEnfields. But only 1 Makarov. Same with meds; too many bandages to count, enough painkillers to get by but not a single morphine injector. I can understand that survival should be tough, but when a broken leg for a lone surviver means almost certain death there needs to be a atleast some hope for them that if they crawl around the town then they have some chance of being able to fix themselves. But I guess the biggest killer for me was how after all the effort and some luck, I had managed to get myself into good shape and survival was definately on the cards. This was all wiped out in an instant when that zombie suddenly decided that he could bend the laws of physics and run through those crate to break my leg. I know, it's an alpha and I'm certain other people have similar stories to tell.

    Night Time Not Fixed.

    If you want it realistic then you need to research it first. Night vision builds over time. To reach full effectiveness takes around 8-12 minutes. Once your eyes are fully accustomed to the dark you will be able to see quite well in very low light without any light source. However, any sight - no matter how fleeting of a white, unshielded light will completely destroy your night vision and leave you totally blind. Your eyes will then repeat the process of building night vision. So, how it is in game now is perfect for representing early exposure to low light but lacks any sort of gradual increasing of vision and your eyes adapt.

    An Idea to Stop most of the PvP

    I like the principle, but there's nothing to stop the killer just firing and disconnecting.

Might have already been discussed - although I like the idea of just starting with a torch, until the player can easily switch between a torch and a pistol I don't think it should be part of the game. Currently (as I'm sure most of you know) to pick up a pistol, you 1st have to move your torch to your backpack. Not that it matters though because once you are holding a pistol any attempt to move the pistol to the backpack so you can equip the torch results in the pistol being dropped.
  8. Yep just loose LOS, I managed to aggo the entire town near the coast. Ran to the dock, around a building and ducked out the other side - they had no clue where I was.
  9. He would have had the chance to hit and seriously injure the guy with the gun, thus making the guy quite possibly avoid a direct confrontation. No he wouldn't. If someone wants to rape spawners they will do it wether they spawn in armed or not - they will just adjust tactics.

    My Issues with the 1.7.1 Changes

    I don't see a problem. Play smart and it is still possible to survive alone and find supplies. I just had a play for about 30 minutes with the new build, went through 2 towns, found 3 rifles a crossbow and loads of food and meds. Stay out of sight of the Zeds and you'll generally be ok. I did die though - there was a Zed hiding in a porch.. I've never seen that before and it caught me out. I wasn't careful enough and got caught out - that's why I love this game.

  12. I love reading others experiences and see they are similar to mine! I think the most interesting thing about the whole idea is that you're meeting people in highly stressful situations where both parties know they are highly vulnerable. Some people deal with this by killing the other party and attempting to remove any possible threat. I like to think that the risk takers are the guys and girls that are actually willing to give peace a chance and let the other person act first.
  13. When a game can deliver something this good simply by interacting with another player then there's something special about it. I was doing a bit of scavenging in one of the towns near the south coast, I was walking up to a house when I spotted movement through the doorway - there was another player inside the house. This was the 1st time since I started playing yesterday that I've found myself unexpectedly near someone else. I moved to the side of the door, out of view and in direct chat gave out a "Friendly??" No answer. 10 seconds later he comes running out of the door and passed me. He runs to a fence, stops turns to me, runs again and stops the other side of the fence. He looks like he's flapping and I'm worried. "Hey! Friendly??" I say again. He is still out of view. Without turning my back on the fence I inch into the house and set up in a room to take him down if he tries to rush at me. My heart is pounding. Then from outside, "Hey! You scared me - yeah I'm friendly!" I'm not convinced - "come inside mate." He comes in and I start to relax - he is being very careful not to aim at me, I return the favour. We end up chatting for about 5 minutes swapping some food and ammo and going our seperate ways. In 5 minutes I experienced more in this game than most games deliver in their entire playthrough. From being ready to shoot someone and not sure if they are about to try and shoot me to making a friend and helping each other out. That's pretty amazing.
