  1. Big thumbs up to the devs for this decision! Note to people who are afraid of losing stuff: you can only lose what you have. So try not to have too much stuff :P
  2. You can't care for more than one thing? Everyone are attached to their gear. At least to some degree. Woah there, killer - you're preaching to the choir. Make a tad bit sense, please. We get it, you're attached to your gear. You've "gone through hell and back" for it. Explain to me why am I able to have a fully stocked character with an alice pack, great weapons, and most toolbelt items after only 2 hours of playing? Because this game isn't that hard, and you shouldn't fall in love with any gear you find, because you're only 1 bullet/server problem away from not having it anymore. Also, you're playing AN ALPHA. This isn't an "closed beta" or an "open beta" or a "preview version." Expect to lose your gear more than once or twice over server/game design issues before this game even hits beta stage. I found a coyote backpack yesterday at the NW airfield. This was only the 2nd time I've ever seen one in game. Literally 30 seconds later, I was gunned down by two guys with AKs. But ya know what? I got over it after about 3 seconds, because it wasn't the first time I was going to die in DayZ, and it definitely won't be the last. Finding the best gear is what makes this game so fun. You paid $30 for Arma 2. You didn't buy DayZ. The devs don't owe you anything, nor does anyone on this forum. You bought Arma 2 to play an ALPHA version of a mod. If you wanted the game to be more polished, you shoulda waited however many months until the game is beta or released as a standalone (if that happens).

    Pending Update: Build 1.7.2

"* [NEW] Player Syncing system replaced (increased performance and ammo quantity tracking)" Does this mean helicopters are coming back? WHY quote THE WHOLE FUCKING message that takes full screen to scroll though?? WTF Says the guy who quoted a guy quoting the whole message! Also, now look what you've done. I've gone and quoted your message too!

Please make off-map (out of boundary) tents and vehicles NOT ABLE TO SAVE. People are currently exploiting the non-playable area to hoard all the vehicles, so much that I haven't seen a vehicle (besides a bicycle yesterday, once) for a couple weeks, since the vehicles were able to spawn again.

Zone of death - off map

Wow, I can't believe all the hoarders on this thread. Just so people are clear: The edge of the map is when the grass and trees disappear. Thank god Arma 3 will be an island map, so we can shut up some of these hoarding carebears. The sad part is, the hoarding carebears probably complain about the "CoD carebears" or the "anti-pvp carebears." When in fact, these hoarding carebears are exploiting the fact that they found a vehicle (and can easily travel much further off the map) to protect their giant piles of loot. For those of you saying "oh yeah well in a real zombie apocalypse we would be able to travel further away into the wilderness," What makes you think that off-map would actually be wilderness? There's an international airport within a few KM of the map boundary... What makes you think there isn't a large city or more towns just outside the playable area? Sounds like you're living in a fantasy world to me. It's cheating, plain and simple, and anyone that says any different most likely has their own off-map tent city with a couple vehicles, and really wants to protect it against the actual players of the game. I vote that off-map tents and vehicles don't save, and any currently saved off-map tents and vehicles get wiped with the next update and (in the case of vehicles) respawned at their original locations.
  6. must be some kinda update that's happening.. anyone know?

Yes, make sure there is a way to disarm bear traps (besides using your undamaged, beautiful legs)

To Rocket & the “Hardcore” crowd

That... sounds awful. But to each his own, I guess. Woah I just thought of a great idea... Kind like a LARPing experience: DayZ: The LARP Half the players are survivors, searching a wilderness area for food (they can't bring any into the game) and tents, and weapons (fake obviously). And half the people are zombies... And you have to survive for the whole weekend or something. WOULD BE FUN, AND VERY REALISTIC!

I think the problem with night time is that it's so easy to use a gamma cheat if there's any moonlight. All you do is turn your gamma up, and all of the sudden you get the effect of having NVG, without having to find them. With no moon at all, you can't use the gamma trick because there is NO light at all to be "turned up" with gamma. I honestly believe this is the only reason that night time is so dark right now. Until they figure out a solution to the gamma cheat, I imagine the night time will stay dark. As for realism, we should make the following changes to make the game more realistic: --Running causes much more hunger/thirst --Depending on how many calories you eat / burn by running, you will have to poop (and if you don't bury your poop, you lose humanity), also goes for pee --Sometimes you can't get a song out of your head, so your character starts humming it to themselves --You won't be able to run at full speed with a giant backpack for more than a couple minutes... you'll have to slow down to a quick or medium jog --You can shoot yourself in the foot if you aren't careful --Some ammo just doesn't work, and jams up your gun --Every time you fire your gun, your hearing gets a little worse for a while, unless you find proper ear protection (but then you can't hear other stuff very easily while wearing it). Anyone who has ever gone shooting and forgot to put their ear plugs in can attest to the dangers of close proximity firearm sounds. --If you break your leg, it will remain broken until you receive medical attention (meaning a doctor with a sanitized surgery area/tools, which you will never find), or alternatively you can use crutches to meander about the countryside until a zombie finds you. Sorry, it's realistic! --Loot doesn't respawn Obviously nobody wants actual "realism" in this game. This is just an argument over "how MUCH realism do we want" I think rocket is doing a good job so far with trying to balance the wants of super-hardcore vs casual players. Rocket experiments with different things, and lets people try them out for a few days or a week, to see how they pan out. He wants it to be insanely difficult but he doesn't want it to be stupid. You can see that in the way he decided to give everyone a flashlight at the same time he made the night super dark.

That is truly terrifying... I hope you don't play on my favorite servers... Bonus points if you use voip on direct comm, yelling "YYeAAAAAARRGGHHHHHH CHO CHOP CHOP CHOP"
  11. Am I the only one who would genuinely fear for my life if I was going to a DayZ Convention (if one of those ever happens)? 90% of the people I meet in this game are the "Shoot first, don't ask questions" type. I can only imagine what you guys are like in real life. I would wear a bullet proof vest, for starters...

    DayZ Convention

I assume he means nerF guns...but nerd guns made me lol... +10 interwebs to you sir! LOL nerd guns works as well. I imagine i'd see a lot of people approaching strangers with nerf guns out, asking if someone was friendly, and then either saluting or shooting them.

    DayZ Stories

I'm somewhat of a bicycle fiend. I'll run all around to the bicycle spawns looking for bicycles (sometimes switching servers to see if one is spawned there). I love using them because they're fast, quiet, never need gas, and they seem to repair themselves sometimes if you get off and back on again. Well I found one yesterday and rode it all around the map, mostly in the north. I went beyond the normal play area, looking for tent cities in the desert of the "outside of the map". Didn't find squat. So it's getting late on the server I'm on, so I finally decide to find a place to set up my tent. I place it within a couple km of the NW airfield, and then save my tent and bicycle and log off, since by now (after 10 minutes of twilight somehow) it is pitch black and basically unplayable (unless I want to get shot running around like an idiot with a flashlight). So this morning I log on, and dawn is just breaking, although it's still pretty dark. There was only 6/50 players on the server so I figure it's a great time to check out the NW airfield. I park my bike next to the barracks and check out some loot inside. I hear a pistol shot from the opposite side of the runway. I look outside with my binoculars and don't see anything, but figure it's safer just to get outta there (I just have a shotgun, not great against snipers). As I'm nearing my bike, I hear a bullet whiz by my head, and then another one land nearby. I jump on my bike and put the pedal to the metal. With skillful weaving and dodging on my bike (which I'm sure looks hilarious to watch), I'm able to pedal away from the sniper and into the woods, to live another day. They see me pedalin', they hatin'
  14. I felt like this song is a pretty accurate summary of the way DayZ is played right now: There's just one kind of man that you can trust, that's a dead man What theme song would you guys pick?

For those posting about no loot at hospitals (and also not being able to pick up a backpack that you find): You must remove the loot around/under the box to be able to open the box. This includes empty tin cans or other junk. Use the scroll menu and select "gear" and then whatever you see near the box, just pick it up, and you will then get access to the box. Each box contains 10 blood bags and 5 of other health supplies (unless recently looted). But the hospitals usually have 4-5 boxes, it is highly unlikely that you won't find any supplies. This bug also applies to Alice Packs and other backpacks you find on the ground. You must remove the loot around them to get to them.
  16. I understand the "hardcore" players who want it to be pitch black at night, so that they can use NVG and kill people willy-nilly. The problem is, you won't have anyone to kill, because nobody wants to play a game where they can't see. So the 1-2 other people on your giant map who are actually staying on the server will also have NVG. Sounds like a pretty fuckin boring experience to me....
  17. YES low humanity people should have more of a scowling expression, or maniacal, since murder either makes you angry/sad, or you're crazy (hence maniacal expression)

    Bikes

If you died, you were most likely sniped as previously mentioned... If your bike doesn't work uphill, that means the tires are shot (look at the indicators in the top left of the screen. If they are red, that means you need to repair your bike). If your bike has green indicators, you can go at a good speed uphill, and over 70kmh downhill.
