The difference between: Scumbag & Banditry...
Propulsion_Joe replied to TheCalyx's topic in General Discussion
So then how would you classify someone who wins people's trust to take them to a certain area under false pretenses only to murder them? -

Zombies hits = Bleeding (almost everytime)
Propulsion_Joe replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
One of the side effects of being immune to the zombie virus is a high level of hemophilia. That is why you bleed so easily. -
I am sure all of you have come across rope at some point in your travels. I know that there are uses that are going to be implemented as well. I wanted to take a moment to talk about possible uses for it in the game that you would all like to see. I am just going to list them below and give an explanation. Restraint - Self explanatory, I believe this will be implemented, tell me if I am wrong. Drawstring - Perhaps with some other tools and a burlap sack, you can create a small carrying case that would go into your inventory. Makeshift Stretcher - Use a combination of rope, sticks, and rags to make a makeshift stretcher that can be used to carry someone that has broken legs faster than if they were to crawl. Perhaps this stretcher can be used to carry extra supplies? The rope would be used as a fastener to make the frame of the stretcher. I have actually seen this mechanic used in a Takistan Life server. It was not a stretcher, but it was the ability to move someone around that was secured via zipties. Clothesline - If wet clothes become problematic, it would be great if you could use rope to create a clothesline that is secured between two points. You would then remove your gear and it would give you an option to place it on the line. Wait around a bit and they would dry :). Sectioning Off Areas - Use some rope in combination with other materials like sticks and duct tape in between to points to close off areas. You would only be able to get through this impediment if you had a knife or axe to cut through it. Now onto some of the more devious uses.... Dragging - Similar to a stretcher, except if someone was bound by handcuffs or rope, you could have the option of attaching a length of rope and drag them to where you want them to go. It would nice to see this as an option for dead bodies as well. This could be further enhanced by having the option to drag them behind vehicles when vehicles are implemented. This may sound brutal, but Day Z is a brutal world. Hangings - This would apply to both dead and alive. If it is a dead body, you could hang it from a tree or other structures (lamp posts, overhangs, doorways). If they are a live player, the same logic would apply, except after a period of time they would lose consciousness and die. You would be able to save the player by shooting the rope or cutting them down with a knife or axe. Imagine the message that can be sent or received by walking into town where a few bodies are hanging in the entrance. Garrote - Shooting guns makes too much noise, this would be the ultimate silent option. It would be very difficult, but if you managed to sneak up behind them, it would give an option to garrote/strangle with the rope. Maybe there would be a random chance of being successful depending on the rope condition? Those were the ideas that had, what are some of yours?

It would be great if you could find a use rope as part of a mechanism in a lethal or non-lethal trap for animals and humans. Something that would snatch them up by their legs and leave them defenseless.

Use disinfectant to keep your plates, pots, and pans clean during the apocalypse! I guess at some point it will be used to disinfect supplies you plan on using on others or yourself to prevent infection.

Nothing like a good old fashioned public hanging to get your group fired up!

when did being friendly become bieng a sucker
Propulsion_Joe replied to gannon46's topic in General Discussion
I agree with Hell Captain. Being friendly has little to no reward and a ridiculously high level of risk. How many times have you read a thread where someone talks about having a scavenging buddy only to be killed by them once they come across a firearm? Your best bet is to avoid all contact with other players, unless you are playing with a group on Skype or TS3. The moment you come across another player/group and they win your trust, they have won your life. To expand upon what Hell Captain said, we actually have to do a serious amount of RP'ing to make this work. We have to come across friendly, helpful, and professional. Some people are upset when we conduct medical experiments on them, others think it is hilarious. But coming back to being friendly, it is a losing proposition. If anyone thinks about being friendly, I can only leave them with these words: You cannot trust people to do the right thing, so you must prevent them from doing the wrong thing. How you prevent them from doing that is entirely up to you. :) -
I always thought the emptiness and solitude when walking through the countryside and towns helped contributed to the apocalyptic landscape. Definitely made it look like something bad happened overnight.

Day Z, aka Dayz of Walking. :)

The book was much more intense than the movie. I know they definitely lightened up some parts of the movie in comparison to the book. Specifically the violence.

Game as support / medic / hero... It's quite sad
Propulsion_Joe replied to TimM1983's topic in General Discussion
Just remember, you cannot trust people to do the right thing, so it is easier to prevent them from doing the wrong thing. -
Maybe you should avoid it next time?

FEATURES YOU THINK SHOULD BE IMPLEMENTED
Propulsion_Joe replied to GASMASKEDBANDIT's topic in General Discussion
I think once they have hunting for food implemented, they should add cannibalism. You would have to cook the meat and only certain portions would be eatable. If the person was sick, their disease transfers. People that were not starving or thirsty would have higher meat yield than those who were starving and/or sick. I know many of you will probably think that is F'd up, but I think it adds another level of depth to the game. Also can you imagine the fun of giving someone food only to tell them that they are eating another player? :o -
Just wanted to take a stab at clarifying KOS misconceptions
Propulsion_Joe replied to fathairybeast's topic in General Discussion
The group I play with does not KOS people we come across in our town we control unless they have a gun on them. It is easier to kill them than it is to trust them. We have a belief that you cannot trust people to do the right thing, so we must prevent them from doing the wrong thing. Anyone that comes to our area that is armed with a melee weapon or unarmed is treat to food and drink as we prepare to sacrifice them on the altar of the death god. -
Played for an hour or so today and...
Propulsion_Joe replied to Mdogg2005's topic in General Discussion
I know the group of people I play with always take care of spawns that are compliant. We feed them, give them drinks, and "medical" treatment. -
So what stops people from camping right outside the No DC zone, shooting people in the No DC zone, and then disconnecting once their position is compromised?

How not to Rage losing a fully equipted character
Propulsion_Joe replied to GenericSurvivor's topic in General Discussion
Do not get attached to your stuff, and realize that there is a chance that as updates come, your character may be wiped. Run with a group. The group that I usually play with make supply runs all the time in between conducting medical experiments on our volunteers. If one of our members is missing a piece of required uniform, we make sure to be on the lookout for it. This helps in case one of us dies. We know that our other members have stuff they can pitch in to jumpstart the journey on the road back. -
Join a group on their TS. I became acquainted with the people I play Day Z with through the Takistan Life server we play on.

Good place to find weapons and gear?
Propulsion_Joe replied to Betastorm8's topic in General Discussion
South end of Zelenogorsk has a fenced off area near the entrance into the town. In this area you can probably find military grade gear + a rifle and possible some ammo. Just tread carefully, there is a good chance you their may be someone in one of the other buildings that is loot farming server to server.
