All my servers have a red x on them does anyone know how to fix it.

I join a server walk around for awhile get geared up with weapons and food. Then my friends jumps online and i switch to his server to just lose all my stuff and be stuck in the ocean. Does anyone know why i would be losing my stuff when i switch servers.

I just started playing about 3 days ago so to even find ammo and a gun hasn't happened for me yet. So it kinda made me mad when i had a magnum yesterday and all i needed was ammo i switched servers and lost everything. But i believe i was in a hardcore server and switched to a normal so that why i lost it im guessing.
